Podcap and Livethread: The Keys to Success
2023-10-12The Cavs lost a squeaker, Tuesday, 107-108 to the Hawks. To review, Nate, Chris, Eli, and Eli’s bespoke keyboard made a trip to the podcast both. They broke what went wrong (the first half and the starters’ minutes) what went right (the Cavs’ developmental players and the second half), and what improvements we’re hoping to see in the coming weeks (rebounding and playing guys in appropriate positions). Then, the guys went around the association and picked against the Vegas lines for wins totals this season. Who is going to underachieve? Who is going to overachieve? Where do the Cavs fall on that spectrum? The CtB brain trust went through every team in the league, and even managed to get some of the new coaches names right.
Tonight, the Cavs host the Magic at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse. Only Ricky Rubio and Jarrett Allen are listed as out, so we should get to watch a little bit of everyone for both squads. Without Eli Kim’s keyboard clicking away in the background (like it pleasantly did for much of this podcast), it might be hard to for the Cavs to find the rhythm to unlock the keys to success. But here’s hoping they do.

In the likely event that he never plays in the NBA again, I think his contract is worth something for use in trades.
Anyone have a good understanding of this?
It might be nice to keep him around if he wants to transition to coaching.

I’ve heard nothing about Rubio. IMHO I think the chances he doesn’t play again for the Cavs are greater than his return.

I know it’s *preseason* but Wemby is gonna be a stud and difficult to defend. I wish Mobley could at least hit mid-rangers at the same consistency as Wemby.
Dude is a freak. Looks like a 7’3” Durant. Already. My only question with him is can his body hold up given his very very slight build.
I do not think Mobley will ever be a go to scorer.
I think a bigger, taller Draymond is about the bestcwe can hope for. He will work. But that jumper is ugly. And his touch around the rim isn’t great either.

Every SF candidate is really a SG sized guy (LeVert, Strus, Okoro).
Skinny, small, & soft. We will win some games. But shooting is not the only problem & they acted like it was.

Last four champions had decent not great SFs
LeBron & Middleton are better than decent, yes? Wiggins was an all-star the year GSW won.
Porter Jr is definitely the weakest. But he is 6’10”, can rebound, and shoot from deep. Denver’s secondary guys (Gordon, KCP, Brown) are all pretty decent. Braun was iffy but not a starter.
LeBron is the best player in the world at any position.
Wiggins generally sucked but had one mediocre year where some giant effort in Japan scrounged up enough votes to be on the AST. This was a joke and I think resulted in a rules change so it wouldn’t happen again. He was NOT a top player on that team.
If you look at the best player on each team in the finals for the last 50 or 75 years, I doubt if you will get more than about 20% being SF’s.
Does anyone watch Charge games regularly? Trying to figure out how/where to watch. Seems like most games aren’t televised but can be watched on their website? (I know the season isn’t started yet, but was just wondering because I never see it advertised anywhere).

Where is the love for the Summer League squad? Need to be using preseason as one more victory lap for that *championship* group, “Mobley the Elder” does get props for his aggression by Nate.

Agree with Bob Sponge – audio quality of the last two pods is a problem. Sound drops out for a second at regular intervals, makes it hard occasionally to understand the dialogue.
Quality of the content is of course beyond compare.
Hi Simmo, every time the audio drops I imagine editors are bleeping a profanity, worked perfectly at least once: “[ ] Saddiq Bey” who seems to smoke the Cavs in whatever uniform.

This team is still missing that Mean. We just have no size on the wing that can just go grab a board or body someone up. Without Allen our bigs just were not good at all. Jones aint it.
