Live Thread: Cavs @ Kings

The Cavs are in the Central Valley of California for their penultimate stop along the Pacific Coast to take on the Sacramento Kings for a sneaky big game against a team that swept them last season. Like the Cavs, the Kings have stumbled out of the gate after a magical year last season partly due to the injury to De’Aaron Fox, though there are rumors he will be back for tonight’s game.
The Cavs are trying to build off of two solid wins against the Golden State Warriors and climb up the Eastern Conference standings. As it was against Golden State, Tower City will need to dominate the game against a smallish Kings squad to come away with the win. The Cavs’ offense and rebounding still stink to high heaven, and Georges Niang and Tristan Thompson have been completely unplayable. So there’s plenty of room for improvement at this early point of the season. Luckily, MVP candidate Donovan Mitchell has been holding the fort down and DG, JA, and Mobley should continue to get better as they find their rhythm.
Tip off is scheduled for 10:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio, Go Cavs!

it is kind of amazing that the 76’ers managed to keep both the head case and the golden turd from sticking to their shoe, and wound up with some decent players.
I will say it again, if anyone thought Strus & Niang were gonna be some huge upgrade, then I have real estate to sell you. And Strus has been pretty good on more than one game.
It is still early,,but we certainly don’t look like a PO team unless we are playing GSW.
As far as upgrades, no not huge but has improved shooting which was the priority. Cedi and Lamar and some picks in a Mitchell window
I don’t wanna hate on Niang yet, what I saw from him in last season’s playoffs was encouraging. Big. Competitive attitude. Could shoot. Is it a fitness thing with him, like so many players who want the paycheck but don’t play the whole season?
Struss seemed to be making the most of his opportunities in Miami, but I was bearish on him coming here. Pleasantly surprised with him so far.
As you say, it’s early.
I’ve liked Strus just fine and much more than I thought I would. He’s a playoff team starter level player. The Cavs bigger problem is no big wings, no third big who can shoot or guard burly bigs, and Garland and Allen are gimoy right now.
Agree on all points. I just can’t get over how out of rhythm they look on offense for a team that has all its core players returning from the previous season. (minus Okoro but I don’t think that’s a negative on the offense).

It’s just going to take a sec. They are all trying to break some bad habits on offense and learn a new system on the fly. A DHO / motion offense takes a minute. Niang shows some signs of getting it together. We were never getting a decent big wing for what we have: a big wing with 70% of caris ability would run 30m a year. Just disappointing, but most young teams growing after big moves have a plateau / rough year (Minnesota last year, Memphis, Atlanta) or just never quite get there (NOP). Kings really guarding well and shooting insanely well.
We’re just not quite there: so much is working in spots and flashes but not consistently. On to Portland

Feel like the Starters have been in the whole fourth quarter to make the score look closer in a game where the Cavs got stomped.

TT is doing his best but the Kings don’t have to worry about him at all offensively. That he’s getting extended minutes is kind of an endictment of the gm.
