Live Thread: Nuggets @ Cavs

The Cavs welcome the 2022-23 NBA Champion Denver Nuggets to the shores of Lake Erie for a classic measuring stick game for the good guys. The Cavs are mired among a massive Eastern Conference middle class, and they look closer to the eighth best team in the East instead of top four so far this season. Tonight’s a big chance for them to hold home court, and gain massive confidence should they out-duel the reigning champions. The Cavs will have to overcome their terrible lack of ball movement on offense, and their inability to rebound on defense in order to take this one from one of the best teams in the NBA. On the other hand, Denver is obviously the best team in the NBA at ball movement, and they’re a top 10 defensive rebounding team.
BREAKING: TOP CHEF CARIS LEVERT OUT
With Caris out, the Craig Porter, Jr. Agenda is in full swing, if CPJ could become a reliable Alex Caruso type off the bench, that would be a game changer for this team. Yours truly believes CPJ is already a better passer and rebounder than Okoro while providing the same elite perimeter defense. I’m fully on board seeing what 25 minutes per game CPJ looks like. The biggest question for him is his jumper, can he figure it out? Here’s the tale of the tape:

Obviously the sample with CPJ is tiny, but there’s enough here worth investigating for Coach J.B. Bickerstaff. As for CPJ; this is his moment, can he seize the opportunity with Isaac Okoro, Donovan Mitchell, and Caris LeVert out? Stay tuned…

not the people always proposing trades of JA for palookas.
People talk about trading him for spacing but having a dude who gets a ton of production inside is so key to drawing defenses in and maximizing spacing: the inside-out game is fantastic when you have two bigs (shouts to Evan for leading the league in dunks) who can finish, pass and score inside

Amen. We just cannot forget about them. It happens too often. Neither guy is a Shaq/Duncan/Kareem/Wilt/Dream “throw it to them & get out of the way” level guy on O. But each can presents threats within the flow of an offense. Both ate decent to good big to big passers and finish well at the rim and are veryical threats.
Also, Niang with 12/3/2 on good shooting from deep.

A little worried that CPJ can’t shoot but am super hype about bench units that have him with shooters.

He was decent enough in college. With the ball in his hands, he hasn’t needed to.
Some really interesting bench lineup possibilities if he’s legit…think you could run out him, Okoro, Vert, Jerome/Niang and Mobley and get a lot of production.
Missed this one completely , I very much look fwd to the replay when I read that Allen was +42 ?!?!

Minivan has been decent tonight.
Cavs bench has done a fantastic job of running weak side acreens to get Merrill open at the the foul line extended while CPJ runs pick and roll, giving Porter great secondary action, to make a variety of reads.
