Live Thread: Cavs @ Heat
2023-12-08Good evening CtB!
The Cavs travel south to the shores of Biscayne Bay to take on the 2022-23 Eastern Conference Champion Miami Heat in a possible playoff preview. Currently both teams are in the play-in mix and looking to break into the top six of the Eastern Conference standings. Miami has been mired in mediocrity after a hot streak at the beginning of November, while the Cavs are slowly heating up after a struggle to start the season. However, the Cavs should be looking for payback as the Heat destroyed the Cavs the day before Thanksgiving 129-96. Injuries will play a role in this matchup as Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro are out for the Heat, and the Cavs are missing Ty Jerome and Caris LeVert and possibly Evan Mobley.
As far as the numbers go, the Heat are winning with their offense as opposed to their defense. They move the ball well, and score efficiently. On the other hand, the Cavs’ defense is starting to round into shape as they’ve finally broke into the top 10 in the NBA in defensive efficiency. If there’s anything the Cavs can exploit in this game, it’s Miami’s slower pace.
Tip off is scheduled for 8:00PM Eastern time and will broadcasted live on Bally Sports Ohio, Go Cavs!
Tristan kicking ass
LT up
No Mobley or LeVert tonight.

10th in projected wins but 7th in net. That’s really not too bad for how shitty the season has seemed so far.
Yup, what’s balancing it out is how tough the schedule was to start the year. Orlando, Indiana, and OKC being playoff teams made it particularly rough IIRC
Even the Brooklyn win looks better and better, but they’re regular season merchants that will suck in the playoffs.
Is Damian Jones completely unplayable? He was -12 in 3 minutes, and it felt even worse than that. Unfortunately, it looks like we guaranteed the wrong guy. Thompson is the better player 100% of the time.
Yup, TT is our 8th ranked player in net rating
… Damian Jones belongs in the G league or Europe sadly.
That’s a bummer considering we don’t have Mobley tonight. Hopefully Mobley the Elder is available as a backup plan.
Yup, and JA isn’t exactly lighting the world on fire this season.
He missed almost all of pre-season and the start of the regular with that injury. There have been flashes and a couple good games.
But a lot of our struggles were when JA was out.
Yeah so? Doesn’t change the truthfulness of my statement.
Lowest rebounding rate since his rookie year, lowest block rate of his career, highest turnover rate of his career. He’s definitely improved his passing but is not doing anything else better.
He’s off to a slow start on production but was obviously vital to our biggest wins. Without him and his ability to switch and protect the rim the scheme is trash.
Can’t spell Cavalanche without Allen
Yep he stinks!
CONGRATS TO THE JAMES FAMILY ON BRONNY S RETURN TO BASKETBALL 🏀 👍

Happy for him, seems like a good dude.
That said, it’s one big crapshoot. How many teams pull the trigger on a clear #1 pick, to little or no avail?
Im glad Burton and the frauds lost to the Lakers.
Yessss late the Pacers hate grow
Good thing to know: Any pet owners in Central or Southeast Ohio should be aware of the 24/7 vet operation in Canal Winchester named something like Diley Hill Emergency Vet (614.829.6444).
Attaway Crew. Congrats Cbus!
Still in recovery mode here in Columbus.
I didn’t see the game live, just watched the replay, few observations:
I think if Mobley was going to miss a game, this was the one to miss. They had to go smaller and it allowed Okoro and Wade especially to use their defensive versatility. I think they have a much harder time wining that game with Mobley and Allen together, Miami’s to well coached and has so much shooting and speed on the perimeter.
CPJ really good again, he rarely forces anything and just brings such a great change of pace to the overall energy of the game.
good points.
CPJ needs at least one run every game
The Cavs are now the sixth seed for you hardcore scoreboard watchers.
funny: I’m feeling a lot better than I was a week or so ago.
Patience with a young team and coach is the way. Some great moments (quiet as it’s kept JB has outcoached Nurse, Spo and Malone in some fun wins) interspersed with inexplicable turds.
But they learn and the trajectory is good. If you believe the critics and doomy plus-minus merchants Niang was an absolute failure…but all it needed was time and patience.
That said we might well go 0-3 in the next few games (after which the schedule softens considerably for a month), then it’s back to doom.
RESPECT IT BROS. GIVE IT BASIC RESPECT
kinda like G – Wagon.
Winning the rebounding battle plus 14! Great job
Really like Darius not being cute at all in 4Q. Just absolutely attacking
