2023-12-21Our 300th Cavs: the Podcast episode celebrates the exploits of unexpected star of the last two Cavs games, Sam Merrill, who has posted 48 points across the last two games on blistering 13-24 shooting from deep. Wednesday’s game against the Jazz proved that Monday’s was no fluke, as the Cavs’ bench mob swarmed the Jazz, led by Caris LeVert and Sam Merrill combining for 48 points.
To celebrate, Chris Francis and Elijah Kim took over the podcast studio for a technically deficient Nate Smith, and gushed about the Cavs win. Merrill’s blistering shooting, the Cavs’ sudden proclivity for the three ball, and the Cavs’ inspired play without their stars were all topics for the guys. Then they got into some trade slop and some retrospective of 300 episodes! Merry Christmas, Cavs fans!

It is WAAAAY to early to bail on this season. Especially with Strus overprrforming, Merrill going nuclear multiple times, CPJ giving quality minutes, and Wade/Okoro contributing (sometimes). Get Mobley & DG back and see what happens. Jerome has been out awhile too. DG, Spida, Strus, Mobley, Fro + LeVert, Wade + some combo of CPJ, Merrill, Okoro, Niang, & TT is a pretty good top 12. I think this has only been mentioned here once before, but can’t Mitchell sign a super max with the Cavs after this season if he makes an all-NBA team? Like Jaylen Brown just did with the Celtics?
Okay, you guys did bring it up on the pod. I posted too soon. I just think it makes it more likely that he re-ups with the Cavs, and then it becomes a question of whether he would be the type to request a trade.
yeah that’s what I think Chris, but we’ll see…. I think Mitchell wants to stay but only if he trusts DG and Mobley to take that All-Star/All-NBA leap. Basketball-wise there are very few places better for Spida to be the “the guy” and have a passing PG and DPOY PF with superstar upside on offense.
I brought this up in the comments several weeks ago. It was news to me at that time. Made me somewhat more optimistic. But there are a lot of people out there whose opinions I trust who are pretty sure he’ll be gone. Who knows though. It will get interesting.
I think the stories about him being gone is leverage for him to get what he wants: a max contract and a winning situation. Cavs are in the mix, but right now no one (in the big market media) really believes the Cavs can win anything.
