Live Thread: Heat @ Cavs
2024-03-20Good evening CtB!
The Cavs welcome the Miami Heat to the shores of Lake Erie for a crucial Eastern Conference showdown. The Cavs are trying to work their way to the two seed in the East, while the Heat are trying to avoid the play-in. Both teams also come into the matchup hobbled, but I’d expect Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo to play tonight given the stakes. Can the Cavs pull another rabbit out of the hat with so many injuries? Stay tuned…

The gambling thing has me wondering about NBA league pass. Last year we had to watch a lot of ads in League Pass broadcasts. And they were super repetitive — the same couple of spots over and over (got so sick of the Charmin Bears). This year has been so awesome. No ads! Watching the in-arena feed! It’s so much like being at the game. I wonder if the change to the gambling revenue model is part of that, where they’re not trying to sell ads any more and instead they’re doing promos for gambling as part of the broadcasts,… Read more »
I’m hoping that by the end of the month we’ll have our starters back so that they have a couple of weeks to get reacquainted before the playoffs. That elbow to DM’s nose was no good, along with all the other injuries.
that would be nice but not pushing it. don’t love them missing the whole West Coast road trip, but it’s not the end of the world. if we can stack wins against MIA/CHA/CHA/PHL next week (all winnable IMO), then you end the season with
4/10: Memphis
4/12: Indy
4/14: Charlotte
and that feels very much like a get right week, plus basically a week off as the playoffs will start 4/20 or 4/21?
That is more realistic. On the plus side, the team has been playing with whomever is available all season, and they’re pretty good at it.
This is no slight on Mitchell or the other injuries, as every team has them, but it really does highlight the crazy value that Jokic provides for Denver, dude has played 67/69 games this year and has never played less then 70 each season in his career. Jayson Tatum the same way, just doesn’t miss many games.
like a young LeBron

We are 7-9 since the All Star Break..I miss the first 6 weeks of the year when we were playing better and winning games we were suppose to be winning.
I definitely don’t want to see MIA or Philly in the 1st round .. I would rather Orlando or Indiana just based on experience of their players.
There was a sequence when the Cavs turned over the ball like 2-3 times in a row just out of carelessness.. Cavs had 11 TO’s and 7 of those were Miami Steals.. Miami had 7 turnovers, 3 Cavs steals.
Cavs did have 30 assists on 35 field goals and hit 15 3 pointers.
I was LIVID at that sequence. Every possession counts against offensively challenged teams like ORL, NYK and MIA
f it. NY has Denver, Orl has NOP, and Milwaukee on a B2B tomorrow.
backing into the 2 or 3 seed >>>>
Good effort considering the injuries.
DG has about 1 game every 3 weeks where I think he’s an all star. He wasn’t awful today, but we need more from him (points or assists) and he dribbles too damn much.
he was pretty good — Miami throws a lot at you, and the low TOs are a big deal. Niang wound up being pretty good overall too.
Merrill in post game basically has it right — “two contested threes over our best defender” — bummer
Rosier hitting two contested threes. Damn.
Too many weird TOs and slow to match physical play.
Make or miss, but I liked the toughness at the end
I hate the Heat and hope we don’t face them on the playoffs.
Was dumb not going for the three on the possession before with no time outs.
They played it well, we didn’t have it
Only chance going for 2 there gives you is hitting another miracle buzzer beater. Was the wrong call.
I don’t disagree. They ran every one off the line and if you use 9 of the 15 seconds and don’t have anything might just try the layup. If you watch that possession there wasn’t anything at all unless you want the Vert prayer
(the last play was great and DG was open just front-rimmed-make or miss)
C’mon,
Cavs just gave this game away when it came down to crutch time.
Disagree. Miami took it cause they’re smarter, they execute better, and they’re better coached.
Dg gets trapped, porter steps on the line ,4 point lead and Okoro fouls the guy .4-5 point turnaround every time. They did indeed give it away.
Nah. Miami hit two contested threes late and won. You tip your cap: their offense produced awful looks too, they just make contested shots.
like, I’m pretty sure the plan wasn’t “late shot clock 3s against the best defender in the game” – that’s not really execution
Nate thinks every game is about coaching. He hated Ty Lue too. Pay him no mind.
the coach haters did hate ty lue a lot.

Video of the last 1:35 of the game, with the Heat with the ball and Cavs with a 4 pt lead.
Exactly.
Oh wow look what happens when you actually pass before 1 second.
That’s probably game.
Terry Rozier: Cavs killer.
F Rozier!
Cleveland just have no offense .. just dribble dribble down the clock.
WHEW. Jimmy Gambled. Got two out of it.
GOOD LORD that was a terrible possession. First, Okoro should’ve gone straight to the bucket when his guy fell down.
This is where you need Mitchell.
Jfc Caris. How do you pass that.
That’s a terrible call.
Do anything,just don’t foul in a 3 pointer!!
And on a made 3 pointer to add insult to injury.
This is a good challenge.
Why does the ball stop moving in crutch time.. I hate that.
Don’t think we will win this but who knows?
FLOP
Okoro. OOF.
Ugh!
Close it out!
John Michael is not paying attention to the Diff apparently.
The scoreboard was wrong for a moment.
Good call. Niang late there.
Cook Em, Caris!
Damn. DG missed Allen there for an easy bucket.
Just tuning it. Jfc to the diff making it’s way on to actual broadcast.
Hah. I think they’re just taking the straight stadium feed.
Garland made the right play, George just missed.
