Playoff Live Thread (Game 2): Cavs @ Celtics
2024-05-09Good evening, Cavs fans! Cleveland takes on Boston again tonight without Ty Jerome. He joins CPJ, Dean Wade, and Jarrett Allen on the injured list for Game 2. Boston is still missing Kristaps Porzingis, and the goal tonight will be for the Cavs to score 100 points in a road playoff playoff game (credit: Jackson Flickinger). This has never happened under JB Bickerstaff. Should be interesting. Go Cavs!
LT up.
Wade and Allen on QL (Questionable List)
I was told PJ Washington wasn’t worth trading and paying sub 20m a year.
(for perspective we were watching a Pangos / Drummond pick and roll and experimenting with Larry Nance at 3 (gross) this time three years ago).
we need alonzo gee
what ever became of Alonzo?
The crazies have given up on trying to get the Cavs to give Jartett away, and are now proposing giving Evan away:

I like Mobley & Allen far more than Garland. At least they are elite (Mobley) or near elite (Allen) on defense consistently. And JA is uber-efficient on offense. There is no way I break that up. Nor let Spida walk.
Everything else is on the table. Strus and LeVert give good effort on D and are streaky shooters. Caris can even handle some. Ice is a fantastic perimeter defender (especially on smalls) and has become a better and more willing shooter. I like Wade but he is oft injured and pretty passive on O.
DG has tons of potential offensively. But he seems to shrink in the POs (and to blitzing) and is not a great defender and is TO prone. But maybe he is turning a corner? I mean, I am not asking for 35, just gimmee 15-18 and take better care of the ball.
A real A+ shooter (Merrill), a legit backup C (Thompson), and another playable forward (Morris) would round out my wish list.
That would be 11 guys.
tonight would be a great time for DG to have a huge game!
I like Garland because the potential combination of things he can give you to threaten the defense. You’d like better counting stats and volume (as when K Love was here) but he just has to stay a threat.
Just having someone who can be a volume shooter, a three level scorer, or a game manager in the same player is good. A confident and correct DG is Mike Conley when needed and Trae (minus grifting) when THATs needed. He’s not executing at all for more than a half, but there’s a fluidity to his running the offense that really helps.
(when he’s not just in his head, which seems to be happening less, so go Cavs. he wouldn’t be the first max guy / all star to be a role player in the playoffs)
(from 247Sports) always good to check in on the guru wisdom of Skip Bayless:

Raoul I saw this yesterday and chuckled HARD. Skip will take his paycheck shamelessly, of course.
“Boston was just 8-for-35 from 3-point range — though Second Spectrum tracking data showed that 77.1% of those triples were heavily contested shots, the highest percentage in any game the Celtics have played with Joe Mazzulla as coach over the past two seasons.”
Another defensive tidbit: Boston shot 3-for-11 on attempts within 10 feet of the basket that Mobley defended, and 8-for-21 overall with him as the primary defender. When Mobley was guarding Brown and Tatum, they combined to shoot just 2-for-10 from the field.

The Nuggets are so lucky Murray did not get suspended. He deserved it.
Murray looks sharper. Maybe the fine woke him up.
Wow. Pacers big finish.
Hoping for 7 games.
I second that emotion.
Good lord, literally no contact on Brunson, he just dove to the ground.
On replay looked like Nembhard swiped from behind from one angle. Sure looked like nothing, though.
That should be posted on his statue outside MSG one day.
No doubt in my mind that Brunson is the biggest flopper/ foul baiter left in the playoffs. I can’t even think of who might be in 2nd place, it’s not even a race.
I hate the part of the game. Completely cheapens it. I thought the refs were letting them play in the playoffs instead of getting baited by flops.
Hilarious how Knicks fans can smear guys like Embiid, when they basically have Trae on their own squad. Team ball, baby! It’s cool when my guy does it!!
The joys of watching Caris play … he needs to drive more.. continue finishing at the rim and making plays:
Restricted area: 21/30 – 70%
Paint: 2/6 = 33%
Outside the paint: 2/14 = 14%
3 pointers: 4/22= 18%
Pretty compelling.

That is an upgrade for Dean. He has been OUT previously.
Hoping this means he’s training at full level but just not fit enough. Fingers crossed.
LOUIS IS OUR “ GOOD LUCK “ CHARM——— GLAD YOU “ ESCAPED FROM THE DARK SIDE “ ……….AND “ MORE BEER 🍺 PLEASE FOR LOUIS “👍👍🍺🍺
give Looie the “outstanding performance against the Celt’s” award, and a vote for
the CtB “Rookie of the Year” title!
CAVS NEED TO BE READY SATURDAY WITH THE SAME OR MORE EFFORT/—PROVE THIS WASNT JUST A “ 1 TRICK PONY “ ——— CELTS ARE PISSED / COMING AT THE CAVS HARD —— WANT TO REGAIN HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
Celtics going with more effort is bad for them. they are best when cool and clinical. JB and JT going hero ball against Isaac and Strus (and Wade!) only to see Evan at the rim is a much better process for us than them just chilling and bombing.
i really liked how we didn’t stop closing out hard even after they had some really successful drives. good scheme discipline
I was wrong with all my predictions, but GO CAVS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! beat those green bastards.
Appreciate it, Louis.
This ragtag bunch of misfits might just have the x-factor Boston can’t handle. Game 3 will tell a tale.
All right Looie !
Might have to invite you to the postseason CtB awards ceremony!
From Twitter…Cavaliers players with at least 25 points in 5-straight playoff games
Going thru replay, have detected the highlight: Mobley breaking Tatum’s ankles (6:22 left in the 3rd).
I feel BETTER !!!
wow.. meeting the challenge in the “gahden”.. could it be a tug mcgraw moment ? i gotta say thought this outcome not very likely.. so, they just eliminated celtics home court advantage.. a little killer instinct going forward will be necessary to complete the deal.. bring some attitude.. get the ‘bron black ice eyes” going (you guys know the photo from his first nba win in MIA).. place the boot on the neck, apply pressure and keep it there for the duration..
It’s that kind of intensity, the anger of being disrespected or even angry with yourself for underperforming, that some on the team need. Mobley in particular seemed to wake up and realise that it really is up to him. So happy to see him just Let It Rip.
yeah, maybe Mobes is starting to realize that he is a big kid now!
Kyrie looking like a better passer with Dallas.
8 pts in 41m ???
9 points, 11 assists – Rondo-esque and the Mavs won.
PJ (God, I’m glad I am not in Charlotte anymore) Washington had 29 on 7/11 from deep.
Maybe Niang will surprise us and have a breakout game in game 3?
well, he did outplay Morris.
but the rare Niang Breakout game would be most welcome real soon!
Which Saturday night trivia fest does Nate attend on Saturday? What’s close?
😂
We just stole home court so just win at home.
WOULD BE GREAT FOR CAVS TO WIN THE SERIES—— BUT WANT TO PLAY 7 GAMES—- ( UNLESS WE CAN CLOSE IT OUT) —— THE “ ROCK “ SHOULD BE LOUD / ROCKING SATURDAY NIGHT——-FANS BE LOUD!!!!!!
