Live Thread: Pelicans @ Cavs

The Cleveland Clinic Cavs welcome the New Orleans Pelicans’ G League Affiliate Birmingham Squadron to the windy shores of Lake Erie in hopes of bouncing back from their first loss of the season to the reigning champion Boston Celtics in Boston last night. It’s an opportunity to quickly erase the bad taste in their mouth, or a risk of dropping a quick two games in the loss column. This game will require a lot of mental toughness to overcome exhaustion, injury, and emotional toll of their recent historic feat.
Looking over the numbers, the Cavs defense and rebounding are really the only two improvements spots for the Cavs as we stand at game 17. In this must win game, the Cavs will have the opportunity to go against quite possibly the worst team in the NBA statistically. As long as the Cavs can keep them off the offensive glass, they should come out with a W. A loss however, would raise immediate eyebrows given how bad the Pels are. Let’s see what the hospital Cavs can do…

The Mitchell deal is basically a wink wink (a “trust me”) they know he’s getting a huge payday in Year 10.

Good article, thanks for posting… the wild card is some team out there who has cap space that loves him, they could over a long term deal at double that money. It’s unlikely but not completely out of the realm of possibility.
The other possibility is if Koby and Ty/Ty’s agent have a wink-wink deal if he signs the early Bird 1+1. I could see that if Ty wants to stay long term, but still get paid somehow. We’ll see what happens,
that is what I am hoping for.
he’s played well for about 30-40 games over three seasons. I like his skill package and I’m not souring on him exactly but I do think he has more questions than a LeVert, who is a proven player in multiple environments and systems.
i’m glad we get to see a full season before making a call. This time last year this whole blog commentariat had Halliburton in the Hall of Fame, so prudence is warranted.
there are a few issues with Ty as a player that would make me hesitant to have him as a full time starter or even a full time sixth man (at 16-20m).
first, what is his elite NBA skill?
second, how good is he against starting competition? …there are a lot of good guards and he might not be better than a Terry Rozier or Norman Powell and he’s probably worse than Donte DiVincenzio.
third, health, age, and the scout catching up.
All our group is in action today. The Bulls beating the Hawks would help. Wiz miraculously ahead of C’s early 3rd.
I think we want the Hawks to beat the Bulls and the Cavs beat the Hawks.
Assuming the top three teams then win out, there will be a three way tie at 3-1 but nobody has the head2head advantage. the second tie breaker is total points (or maybe total point differential?) where the Cavs currently have a big lead.
On the other hand, if the Hawks lose two games, then Boston has the first tie breaker over the Cavs.
