Live Thread: Pistons @ Cavs Preseason

The Cavs welcome back Coach JB Bickerstaff and the Detroit Pistons to the banks of the Cuyahoga River for a nice little Central Divison scrimmage. It appears the regular starters are a game time decision.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on Fanduel Sports Network Ohio, Go Cavs!

Hart and Robinson have been “load managed” as well.
Would be a fun Lonzo breakout game. If he’s good, the other guys will be up to the task. Allen in particular usually is fun when guys are out and he gets more touches.

a) fuck NY (although they are gimped up too between Hart and Robinson)
b) that said, if we are down three of our top 6, it’s kind of a nothing to lose situation.
we should beat them anyway.
i think it’s certainly possible. The bench unit in particular should be a lot for Clarkson / Yabu / Deuce. Mobley plus Lonzo plus 3&D guys is hard to handle

last year the discussion was about the “fact” that you couldn’t have good offense with the two-big look. i’m glad we have Lonzo and a bigger set of lineups but we lost in the playoffs due to health and the jumbo lineups are very janky. (maybe a Mitchell / Strus / Hunter / Mobley / Allen lineup has enough playmaking / shooting without DG but we won’t see that for months) hard to say that the backcourt doesn’t work against good playoff opponents. falling apart against Indy without DG is a tough fact to square with that b/c two good… Read more »
if Lonzo stays healthy, we’re going to be debating whether he should be getting big minutes in a playoff game, including at the end of games, and being partnered with Spida over DG. I’m forever stuck on the fact that the DG/Spida lineup simply won’t work against good playoff opponents.

comes and goes, but there’s more cause for hope than concern especially when Darius is back and all his minutes will be with a great passing point guard. He got a couple nice makes yesterday when Lonzo was running the offense.
A bit worried about the offense but if Hunter stays productive, Mitchell is Mitchell and the ball pressure generates transition points, we should be OK.
It’s just much harder, especially for Allen, without Strus and DG.

I like Proctor / Ball (Hunter/Tyson?) / Wade / Nance / Mobley as a bench unit
Nice game. Mobley struggled, but otherwise they were fine. Lack of rebounding in first half was annoying. Those Ball, Nance lineups are going to be super fun. I hope proctor plays with those guys a ton. I like him a lot and he brings more than cpj who feels really inconsistent and only should take the games where Ball won’t play a b2b. Kopp got cut. I didn’t by see huge upside from Enaruna. Might try to take a flyer on someone who got caught in the roster crunch for another squad.
I think that is about right. I kind of think of hoops as 6 positions:
PG: DG, Ball, CPJ
Combo G: Mitchell, Proctor
Wing: Strus, Merrill, Tyson
Forward: Wade, Travers
——Tomlin
PF/C: Mobley, Nance
C: Allen, Bryant
Hunter should be a F but plays more like a wing. Tomlin is a PF. IDK if SF or small ball C is more likely. Or if he is just PF only.
With DG & Strus out, my guess would be a perineter player for the 3rd two way.
Cavs meeting some strong, almost out of control physicality from DET and still playing their game. Just preseason but a good sign.
