2026-04-02Welcome to the Bay, Cavs fans. Cavs come into San Fran relatively healthy, with only Tyson and Wade on the injured list while the cuts run deep for the Dubs.
The wine and gold should be able to take this one with consistent effort and playing inside out on offense. Of course, they couldn’t do it versus the Lakers, so we’ll see what happens versus Dray and Co. Should be an adventure. Go Cavs.

I’d imagine Bryant starts along with Harden, Mitchell, and Strus. The other is either Tomlin or Ellis with Max playing the 4. Charge are done. Sarr, Enaruna, and Minix could all get burn.

Those guys have zero chance of playing in the playoffs, which is why they sit. If it was January I’d think they would play.
If a guy has a knock, sit him. But I’d be using CPJ or Bryant or someone who has a chance to play real PO minutes instead of 2 way guys or LNJ & Proctor. I could see Tomlin getting end of quarter type defensive PT, but pretty limited. We have had so many injuries and late arrivals, I want to be building chemistry with what I have left, if I can. let me remind everyone gripping about the 4GLU: you need 240 player minutes in a game. with Wade and Tyson out, there are not many options.
maybe play Allen and Mobley 48 minutes each? or, 32 minutes each and Bryant for 24? Play Tomlin a lot, ever though he needs at least another year to learn basketball?
Those lineups are the essence of a necessary evil with JA on a minutes restriction and Nance and Tomlin useless. They hold the line if and only if Schroder and Bryant can provide rim pressure.
so why stress your best bigs when we basically have to tank to stay behind the NYK?

Kenny has been fine: I haven’t loved every choice and I think he’s stubborn but he deserves a full training camp with Harden. This year has sucked with the 37 starting lineups but we’ve clawed to 50 wins.

The last five minutes was our playoff effort. We had awful execution against GSW and horrid shooting against Utah, but found ways to win.
Gui Santos gave the Knicks 20-7-7 a few weeks ago, he’s good.

The closing lineups, with one or two bigs, have been fantastic, irrespective of opposing personnel or coverages.
This game earlier in the year would have been Mitchell hero ball and a coin flip. The last five minutes was surgical – open 3s and FTs and layups.
I watched the 4th qtr with some sports people that are not particularlly Cavs fans. everyone was astounded at Hardin’s ability to transfix the entire defense, milk the clock down to 0.1, and produce some points.
It’s relentless and back breaking. Unless you think the Hawks are gonna blow us out four times, there’s nothing that suggests they should be able to hang in the clutch.

I guess, just from the perspective of giving us the best chance of staying at the number 4 seed, it would be good for us to win this game (looking at the remaining schedule).

If there was one thing I’d bet the farm on it would be Kenny not being the Cavs head coach next year.
I think the Cavs have to make the conference finals for Kenny to keep his job.
He did what they hired him to do: got to an elite offense with two bigs, developed the young players in Mobley (last year), Tyson and Merrill, averaged 57 wins…those were difficult problems! the complaints here are so similar to the JB complaints, certain fans can never accept good coaching comes with good games and bad ones.
They’ll want to see what he can do with a full training camp / offseason with Ellis and Proctor on the development side and Harden.

The 12-15th guys played a ton this year! We very much know what we have in them.
Nance hasn’t had a good shift all year, Tomlin is just another guy to double off of, and Proctor is a rookie. There’s no point in subbing guys for “energy” – it’s bush league and it alienates your actual good players. Save it for high school.

Suppose one adopted a rule that at least one of Harden/Mitchell AND at least one of Allen/Mobley were on the court at all times until the game was decided (W or L). Would that end up w too many minutes for any Big Four? Likely would cut down on overlap timing, but worth it given how poorly the “none or one” of the above perform, even against backups.

Favorite play of the first half for me was the alley oop from Harden to Allen which started with what seemed like a double pick by Allen and then Strus. It may have been spontaneous or it may have been planned. I’m not sure which, but I liked it.
