Playoff Live Thread: Cavs vs Pistons (Game 4)
2026-05-11Looking to get to even stevens tonight, Cavs fans? After James Harden played his most disciplined playoff game, Donovan Mitchell looked like his old self, Max Strus flew around like a lunatic, and Dennis Schröder put up his best shooting performance in a Cavs Uni, Cleveland won crunch time and got the series to 2-1, Sunday. If they win tonight, it’s a three game fight.
Meanwhile, Huerter is questionable for the Pistons, possibly playing for the first time this postseason, while LeVert is joining him with the “questionable” designation. Thomas Bryant is also questionable with back spasms.
Dare we hope the wine and gold have turned a corner, and the Cavs can just keeping like last game (albeit with better rebounding and some attention to detail early)? LFG, Cavs.
OKC v SA could be a Clash of the Titans situation.
For hoops watchers without a specific (team) rooting interest, probably the best/most interesting remaining potential series.

Missed the game unfortunately. Saw a highlight of the crowd chanting Jarrett – Allen, and figured oh awesome, JA must have had a monster game… checked the box score and he had 9 points. Cavs fans are wild.
He was great.Didn’t stuff the stats ,but played strong against their big guys .
Agreed.
Had a big block right before that.
He had a big stretch in the third.
Was just funny with the lack of context and that was the first highlight I saw.

Mitchell: 2 dimes, 1 TO
If those two are 13 assists to 3 TOs, better than 4:1 ratio, we have a great shot at winning. We turned it over less and won PTS off TOs. We won 2nd chance PTS and O Boards. And a huge edge at the FT line.
If you count FGAs + FTA/2, we won that, 95 to 89. Detroit shot a better %: 50.6/43.5 to 43.6/34.1, but we made more 3s: 14 to 10, and went 30/34 from the FT line to their 9/12. +21.
Duren makes you really appreciate Allen’s footwork.
The commitment to early offense when available was a really
good adjustment as was Harden as a catch and shoot guy to start
Game 3: The Beard is back, and Donovan’s better.
Game 4: The Beard is still here, and Playoff Donovan and DPOY Mobley are back.

Now, I am cherry picking some, as Reed had 15/4/2 on 7/9 with a steal.
Reed being six eight gave a lot of it back bc it was free money at the rim and on the glass.
Duren looks really bad.

He did. Nada on O but was great on D. We did a real good job on Robinson as well.
Cade was 7/16 with 6 domes & 5 TOs.
Duren had 8 pts and 2 boards.
Harris was 6/17.
Robinson & Thompson had 4 each.
LeVert & Reed went nuts, but their starters struggled. Big time.
This was probably the worst Ausar game I’ve seen. A huge part of all this is Mobley and Allen figuring out Cade a little more each game and playing him for the spoon-feed to Ausar and Duren.
Reed and Vert aren’t good but they are threats from more than one spot and that back-footed us for a good while.
Take these numbers every time. If LeVert and Reed are leading them offensively, something has gone way wrong.
After 2 games, Cade was the best player in the series.
Mitchell waa clearly #1 in Cleveland. Harden #2 in Game 3 and Mobley tonight.

I wish one reporter had the mind to ask, “But Coach, was it also ridiculous when you outshot the Cavs at the line 35-16 in Game One?”
League data probably proves home teams get more calls, but the eye test also tells you players are more aggressive at home. Will these Cavs travel fo Detroit? They actually shot more free throws in Game Two.
Speaking of small lineups (per Mr. Steal), announcers mentioned early in the game that Kenny said he seriously looked at starting Schroeder over Wade. I give KA credit for turning Schroeder into a weapon in this series – off the bench, for 20ish minutes. But don’t open the game with 3 guards, pls. Wade’s giving nothing on O but he’s helping wear down Cade.
I mean Schröder was -24 in net rating this game. It would’ve been worse if the zoo crew had been remotely competent instead of blowing a bunch of possessions late.
i thought he was really useful late, even if it wasn’t positive +/-. Just getting the good guards for a possession or two off the ball was a positive. he wasn’t on the floor during the cavalanche and you knew Detroit would work to get some of it back.
Donovan scoring 43 may not happen again this series, but the probability is higher than Levert having another 24/4/3 game on 10-16 shooting with a couple steal/blocks and no TO’s.
It isn’t like we shot lights out. Percentage wise, Detroit was better.
But we took better care of the ball. We were basically even on the glass. We won the FT line by 21. And played better D, Mobley was freaking everywhere.
5 blocks, 3 steals, and bunch of other shots altered or just not attempted with him looming.
He was a presence for sure.
if we get ONE game with the shooters loose in Detroit it’s scary hours. Shocking how open Max and Sam were.
the starting five with Dean seems to work really well when Don and James commit to moving off ball, cutting and relocating.

Finally a complete game. Merrill missed at least four wide open 3s, Duren totally neutralized, and even a miracle Vert game not enough.
Cade is going to have to do a LOT for Detroit to win. He might get there but it’s a lot.

Incredible second half by Donovan, maybe his best half of his playoff career – almost set the all time second half scoring record I believe. Only blemish is the team collectively easing up near the end and forcing the starters back on court to finish the game. Have they not learned from the Pacers series?
