Recap: Cavs 94, Hawks 121
2012-01-21The Cavs were crushed by the Hawks on Saturday night. It was a joyless drubbing. I’m gonna rely on the Twitterverse to describe this one.
1st Quarter
“Ball’s in the air. The building is half empty.” [PD Cavs Insider]
“Jamison had a nice defensive stance there. He looked really good as Teague blew by him.” [realcavsfans]
“Does the city of Atlanta know its team is 11-5, or has the malaise of mediocrity taken hold?” [Eric Knappenberger]
2nd Quarter
“Yeah, stop leaving VladRad open.” [Conrad Kaczmarek]
“Hawks timeout skit included a “Cavs” fan in a LeBron jersey. Real #Cavs didn’t look amused.” [Jason Lloyd]
3rd Quarter
“My, that escalated quickly. #Cavs” [Scott Sargent]
“In the past 8:22 — spanning second and third quarters — the Cavs have been outscored 32-10.” [PD Cavs Insider]
“#Cavs have exactly 2 offensive rebounds. Yikes.” [Jason Lloyd]
4th Quarter
“Boredom warrants a Christian Eyenga update… shooting 40% from the field, 10% from three and 64% from the line in 8 games with Canton.” [Eric Knappenberger]
“Willie Green just caught an alley oop. I think we’re done here.” [Conrad Kaczmarek]
“What a boring loss!” [Colin McGowan]
Okay, we’re done here. Miami on Tuesday. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
R: Dolan brought this on himself when tried to run the team instead of letting Walsh do his job. The Chandler signing was the perfect example. It was like when Al Davis used to go sign the super bowl MVP every year. With what they paid for Chandler they could have had Chuck Hayes, Jamal Crawford, and Kris Humphries. Letting Billups go for Chandler? Beyond stupid.
At least we’re not a colossal failure like the Knicks. Imagine how their fans feel right now, because they actually thought they’d be elite this year. We knew these stretches would happen at the beginning of the year. We lack options on offense in the worst way. Thank god Kyrie is efficient despite a heavy burden of possessions he has to use. The big picture still gives us a nice blank slate to build on. No bad contracts, an incredible rookie PG, an intriguing rookie PF, and a lot of replacement-level dead weight that we can jettison pretty easily. Trading… Read more »
Scary thought: If playoffs started today, Cavs are still the 7th seed! That’s how many terrible teams are in the East.
Pretty sure Harangody playing 23 mins is a send-a-message kind of thing. If you bust your butt in practice – I’ll play you in a game we can’t win anyway.
P.D. Parr: The Boston cortisone joke was the best I’ve seen this year.
Maybe the plan all along was to be bad this season. Not that it would have had a big impact on the win-loss bottom line, but on a night like tonight, wouldn’t it be nice to have drafted Chandler Parsons or Tyler Honeycutt at #32? Especially Parsons, the way the season has started.
I’m still floored that when Gibson can’t play, then plan B is to play Luke Harangody for 23 minutes.
This year, I think we’ll need to lose a ridiculous amount of games just to MISS the playoffs. We’re 6-9 at the moment and the 7 seed in the playoffs! The only way we get out of making the playoffs is if New York stops playing ego ball and Boston starts getting cortisone injections at halftime.
We will still play decent against the crap teams and win some games here and there. No way we end up with a losing streak like last year. And I don’t expect to lose by 30-40 every time we play a good team, look how we did against Indiana. Highs and lows of having to rely on rookies and rotation players only.
would rather the cavs hit a losing streak than make the playoffs and skip the lottery. Then again the east is so god awful the eighth seed will probably be scraping double digit wins. Lot of tanking going on.
After the Charlotte game i was pretty certain it felt like the Cavs’ wheels were about to come off. This is a completely different team with the 6-6 team before the Warriors game. And now quite honestly i can very much see a 15-20 game loosing streak coming up. I dont ever want to see the awfulness of last season but watching the last 2 games, how can you not feel the same is coming our way. I hope am wrong. god i hope am dead wrong because i never want to go through that streak again.
According to ESPN’s box score player of the game was TT, is that a good thing or a bad thing? Also anyone else notice that Jamison is leading the team in blocks per game?
This is the cavs being smart and tanking for Kidd-glichrest. lets hits that lottery, dont worry, the cavs will pull out their A (the real thing) game for the heat and (fuck) lebron. LEGGOOOO
(kyrie’s a monster)
Things have taken a serious turn in the wrong direction when I’m looking up Manny Harris’ d-league stats.
He’s averaging 16.5 ppg and 7 rpg in 28 minutes on 54% true shooting.
For “break glass in case of emergency”, I’d rather see Harris than Harangody.
The top mystery of minimal consequence this season? Why did the Cavs cut Manny Harris?
Why were Mychel Thompson or Christian Eyenga kept if neither is worth putting in an NBA game? Certainly there has to be someone better to have on the roster as a 5th wing rather than having a front court that’s seven deep with Samuels, Harangody, Hollins & Erden.
