Quick Links As I Head Out The Door
2009-12-01On the Illgauskas fiasco: it’s a huge bummer, but it does seem like an honest mistake by MB. Even still, it’s definitely a microcosm of how much Z has taken a back seat this season. He’s about to be the longest-tenured Cav ever, has started and played well for the last few years, and has played the good soldier while he and the team have struggled to adjust to Z coming off the bench.
While I was looking at old post move videos last night, something I’d realized before struck me again: I don’t know if I’ve ever seen this comparison from anyone else before, but LeBron’s offensive game reminds me of Charles Barkley’s more than anybody else. Look at this video and tell me you don’t see A LOT of LBJ in Sir Charles.
Alright, I gotta go down to Staples to get some quotes from Kobe and Phil on LeBron. Provided I don’t screw it up, they’ll be published. In print. In China. Every now and then, it’s good to just sit back and realize what an amazing ride writing about what I love has taken me on over these last few years. Hopefully I’ll be back strong tonight with another LeBron to-do list post.
Unexcuseable mistake by MB. Are you telling me that he forgot or didn’t know about this milestone before the game? For the simple reason of not upsetting Lebron and the other players, you put Z in. Definitely a sign of what kind of coach and individual he is. I can name 15-20 other coaches in the league I’d rather have than MB and agree that Cleveland won’t win a championship with him. Many of his substitutions seem arbitrary and rarely do I see a game plan on the floor that represent something preconceived.
LeBron’s got some similarities to Barkley, but Barkley had an extremely dominant post game (which doesn’t make that highlight video) that LeBron does not have. As you said in another post further down, LeBron needs to get that “ugly” post game going. The guy he should be learning that from is none other than Shaquille O’Neal, one of the best all-time bigmen in the post. Shaq should be showing LeBron how a big man uses footwork to get positioning, and showing him how to drop step and spin to the middle. If LeBron had those skills in his arsenal, he’d… Read more »
Love the quick hops on a young Barks. You forget what an athlete he was. Now put a young chuck with LeBron and I’m not sure they could be beat. Certainly couldn’t beat their egos. :) Viva la Cavs!!!
either:
(a) great minds think alike
or
(b) fools seldom differ.
Ah. More people read him than me. Krolik fail. I made the comparison early last season, but I still think he has the flag on this one. Gotta read that book.
Bill Simmons compares Lebron to a young Charles all the time. Does so in his book as well (fantastic read by the way).
I was watching the game without sound thinking Z was hurt or something. Very, very curious. We are going to need him and if you could give Shaq minutes, you could give Z minutes. Maybe Ferry slipped him a 20?
