2012-03-05“While a move for Jamison seems unlikely – despite recent rumblings I remain convinced the Cavs will buy out Jamison’s contract after the trade deadline – the Mavericks may present the Cavaliers with an option. The Mavericks are desperately trying to rid themselves of Shawn Marion’s contract.  Marion is due $18 Million over the next two seasons, and if Dallas can get out of that contract, they would be able to pursueDwight Howard and/or Deron Williams this Summer.  If the Cavs were to offer Jamison for Marion and disgruntled Maverick Lamar Odom, the Mavericks would jump at the offer.” [Michael Curry]
“I know that Byron Scott is not ready to start Tristan Thompson (although he might as well, Ryan Hollins andSemih Erden both suck). Regardless, don’t you think he should be at least playing 30+ mins per game? When he gets the minutes, Tigger is essentially a lock for a double-double. That’s what I want to see tonight — lots of Manny, lots of Kyrie, and lots of Tigger. Even if we lose, those three guys playing good minutes will make Conrad happy.” [Conrad Kaczmarek]
“Cavs coach Byron Scott made two significant changes to his starting lineup for Saturday’s game. He benched struggling forward Omri Casspi in favor of forward Alonzo Gee. The other move wasn’t as dramatic, as center Ryan Hollins replaced center Semih Erden. Casspi was given a lot of leeway since he was the mainstay in the J.J. Hickson trade with Sacramento in June. Gee had 11 points and five rebounds on Saturday in his first start at small forward. The Cavs kept waiting for Erden to snap out of his slump, but it never happened. He had three points and three rebounds in 10 minutes on Saturday. Erden just never seemed to be playing hard. That won’t be tolerated by Scott. Erden didn’t play on Saturday. Hollins had 15 points and seven rebounds in 31 minutes, all season highs.” [CBS Sports]
HoopsDogg,
I get the fact that Blatche is a knucklehead/cancer, and the trouble that could bring to a team, especially with young players. I guess I was putting faith in Bryon Scott’s ability to handle a player like that. Which is why I referenced JJ Hickson and Baron Davis as examples in my original post. Both had displayed character issues at some point. Although not to the degree of Blatche. At any rate, I suppose it’s doubtful the Wizards would part with their pick.
haha true. To be fair though he seems pretty liberal with his own money.
I love how liberal we are with Gilbert’s money on this site.
Hoopsdogg, its true its not going to happen. But if they offered blatche and their unprotected 1st, you know we’d have to take it, cancer or no. If he’s really that terrible they could just buy him out for his whole deal (<$30 mil) and it would still be worth it. If gilbert is sersious about trying to beat lebron out for a championship, he'd have to go for it (and cross his fingers miami doesn't win this year!) Couldn't turn down Anthony Davis or Andre Drummond to go along with Beal or top ten Wing player X But ya,… Read more »
Scuzz: Yes. I am telling you it would not be worth it to take Blatche for the Wizards first rounder. He learned from Agent zero, the best in the business, on how to be a cancer. Also, they would not give up a high lottery pick in this year’s draft (the deepest in years, supposedly) just to dump Blatche. I doubt they’d do it for next year’s either (Shabazz Muhammed, anyone?)
Jordan, there is absolutely no way in hell the lakers would give up Gasol for sessions and Jameson. Gasol, as bad as he was in last years playoffs, is still one of the best 5 centers in the league. Sessions, while being a huge upgrade to their point, would still be a below average starting pg whose ball dominating style of play wouldn’t mesh well with kobe. And jamison would get murdered by kobe bryant if he didn’t turn the nob way down on his shot selection, thus becoming an inneficient 10-12 point a game guy who can’t play defense…… Read more »
@Scuzz, if they traded fror Blatche and the Wizards’ pick, they would have to waive Blatche immediately and just pay him to stay away from Cleveland. Believe me, the Cavs DO NOT want Blatche to spend even one second in the same locker room as Kyrie and Tristan, for fear that some of the knuckledheadedness might rub off on them.
Scott needs to suck up his pride and just start tristan. Playing idiots like ryan hollins and semih erden and luke harangody does absolutely nothing but hurt the cavs each game. And why doesnt manny harris play? we singed him because he was dominating the D League and he has seen 6 total seconds the entire time hes been back with the cavs. the terrible rotations amaze me. you dont think the lakers wouldnt go for ramon sessions and jamison for pau? they need a true PG and they are still getting a scorer in jamison. the cavs need someone… Read more »
“And Andre Blatch? Why don’t you you bring back Darius Miles too?”
The whole point was to get the Wizards 1st round pick. Are you telling me it’s still not worth it if they did?
Well, the boat’s sailed on Wilson Chandler for this season. He can only sign with the Nuggets. I also doubt the Clips get rid of Mo, as he’s actually playing well for them, and they need him now that Billups is hurt (but they are the Clips, so anything’s possible). The way Odom’s playing, he would cause more problems than he’d solve for them.
Also, the Lakers laugh at that deal Calvin. Their fans would kill them for that trade.
And Andre Blatch? Why don’t you you bring back Darius Miles too?
Kevin Martin is a good player, but I dont see how a 30 year old volume scorer (aka Jamison 2.0) would fit into the Cavs future plans. If I’m the Cavaliers I’d rather get a younger, more efficient wing like Wilson Chandler or Eric Gordan (or even Marvin Wlliams) and a shooting guard in the draft (my love for Brad Beal is reaching Valenciu-whatever like levels this year.)

3 team deal with HOU & LA Lakers, we get Kevin Martin, HOU gets Boobie & Gasol, LA gets Sessions & Samuel Dalenbert. Who says no?
Mo back in Cle will be okay. He is playing good and would be an improvement over Sessions.
How about sending Sessions, Parker and Varejao to LA for Gasol and a pick?
I wouldn’t mind Mo Gotti back in the Q. It’s not like we’ll be in the playoffs any time soon for him to choke away.
I tried out this trade http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine , the Clips are supposed to be interested in Odom, and they could both send us a draft picks for helping them out. It would require Mo Williams to be our Backup PG again though, and I know how everyone probably feels about that. I would do this trade in a heartbeat if Dallas and Clips included a first round pick though. Picks for assets that won’t be anything, plus deals that will expire by the time we contend! However, as Colin says, I really doubt the Mavericks are that desperate to move Marion’s… Read more »
Keep Blatche far away from this team.
As far as Jamison, has anyone thought about trading him to the Wizards? They’ve got a ton of salary they would love to dump. Blatche is a candidate. Possibly McGee. Yes, I’m fully aware that both are underachievers, and have character questions. However JJ hickson was the same way last year. But if you look at the second half of last season, JJ really improved in terms of rebounding, scoring and shooting %. I think Byron Scott was able to get through to him, much like he did with Baron Davis in New Orleans. Maybe he could do the same… Read more »
Marion wouldn’t be bad. Do I really want to help the Mavs steal Dwight from the Magic? No. Really though, Marion for another year, and then maybe Dallas’s first round pick? Good deal? That’s debatable. Maybe if they throw in Roddy Beaubois…
I don’t know who Michael Curry is, but I seriously question how he can say the Mavs would “jump at” taking Jamison for Odom and Marion. That’s completely ridiculous for the Mavericks. I realize they are trying to clear cap space, but they are also still in contention for a title this year. Trading their best perimeter defender for one of the worst defensive players in the league is straight up stupid. Mark Cuban is a lot of things, but stupid is not one of them. If Dallas really thinks they can land Dwight, they will wait until the offseason… Read more »
I’d be happy to grab Marion and Odom (plus a pick) for Jamison. That would honestly be an upgrade, and Marion could be a good D mentor for the Cavs for the next two years.
Any way we can do a 3-way with LA and Dallas where we offload Jamison to Dallas and bring back Marion (so they can run at DWill and DHoward), we can split a buyout of Odom with Dallas, give Sessions to LA, let LA re-sign Odom, and grab a few draft picks. Maybe LA can give us some cash for the buyout…
