Live Thread: Cavs at Nuggets
2014-11-07The Cavs travel to the Mile-High City tonight to take on the Denver Nuggets. The game starts at 10:30 p.m. Eastern time and is being shown on ESPN.
Denver is using an 11 man roster right now. Seriously, 11 guys on their team are averaging more than ten minutes a game, and they are trying to run their way through a mountain with fresh legs to find wins. They have the second fastest pace in the league behind the Warriors, which makes perfect sense since their thin air tires teams. Are the Cavs up for this matchup?
LeBron James, Kyrie Irving, and Dion Waiters have all been standing around on defense these past few games. The Wine & Gold are giving up 101.5 points a game; that’s bottom ten defense. Maybe they’ll have extra energy to hang in with the Nuggets from their lack of defensive movement. They also aren’t moving the ball on offensive. The King’s Men are 30th in the league for assists so far this season. There has to be some bottled up energy in their legs, I hope.
David Blatt has been playing his starters crazy minutes going into this game, so don’t be surprised if you see the bench get a lot more run tonight. The Denver air will seek out any tired players like Russell Westbrook seeks out the best outfits of the 22nd century (not a typo, Westbrook is just so far beyond everybody as far as fashion goes).
The Nugget’s top scorer is Ty Lawson who is averaging 12.5 points a game, but if I’m being honest with myself, I am only interested in seeing the G-Man, Alonzo Gee. Gee, who is a Cavs alumnus, is averaging just four points a game and no longer being blamed for his team’s poor performances. I miss you Alonzo. The only man I have to blame on the Cavs at the small forward spot now is LeBron James. Gee better not have poisoned that position for the Cavs organization indefinitely. I’m getting frustrated already, I feel like he’s back on the team.
The Nuggets also have a bizarre shot blocker named JaVale McGee.
Despite playing just 14 minutes a game, he is averaging over two blocks a night. This is bad news for LeBron who is shooting a career worst 44.7 percent in the paint. Tom Haberstroh explained this striking number in a video yesterday. He has soothing music playing in the background to lessen the sadness of Clevelanders. The Cavs do not have a shot blocker as Kevin Pelton explained today.
Post your thoughts and predictions during the game here. This is the battle of the 1-3 teams. Which team leaves 2-3?
I’m predicting the Cavs lose this one, 95-109.
Nate would have HATED the KLove D on that possession
Nice to see Coach Blatt go 10 deep on the rotations tonight
I sincerely hope Cols is at the game. No matter where he is he’s enjoying this game.
And so I am.
Me too. If anyone deserves to witness a Cavs blowout, it’s him

Sorry that got cut off:
COLS HALFTIME REPORT
COLS HALFTIME REPORT
I love Nate Robinson man. He’s hilarious.
That was a pretty funny way to end the half. He must have CRAZY upper body strength to chuck the ball that far while jumping in the air out of bounds
Man, Nate Robinson really rustles my Jimmies
Love battling inside tonight
2 minutes to go in the half and the PA goes “two minutes remaining,” then the crowd shouts the same thing. Is it just me or was that kind of odd? Never heard that before
HJAHAHA Genius Nate could find the one cat turd buried 6 feet deep in the sand in a random spot at cocoa beach.
Joe Harris redeems his bad earlier decision. Nice steal rook!
uh oh. Harris gonna take over
Anyone else feel like Lebron has actually tweaked his jumper? Something about it looks very different…
LBJ and Kyrie going the other way tonight. Zero points but 12 assists so far
Apparently this quarter’s lesson from LeBron to the youngsters is what not to do on offense.
Where is Nate? He would absolutely find a way to refute your Klove assessment scotch
Bad habits creeping in this quarter
Love playing much harder on Defense tonight. so good to see.
Would someone please text Lebron to backdoor cut for an pop instead of trying jumpers?
Just text Cols and tell him to yell it to LeBron at halftime
What is up with the LBJ ISO
Um…lebron? did you get hit in the head?
Would like to see some burn for Ray Allen soon. It would be really cool
Uh oh, LBJ starting to revert to ISO and 37 ft threes
WILL CHERRY sighting!
What a completely different team. Just unreal energy.
Ball movement. Kyrie threading needles.
LeBron disrupting on defense.
just so sweet
Where is all the energy coming from? We looked so old 2 days ago…we look like we’re actually in shape and everything…and in the altitude!
AWESOME ball movement! Great save by Tristan and great assist by Kyrie
COLS RECAP OF THE FIRST QUARTER:
Smug smile and shrug. Holds up FRANKIE SAYS RELAX sign with FRANKIE crossed out and LBJ scribbled in
Best quarter of the season so far hands down. They look like a different team. Let’s hope it continues and they can rest the starters in the second half.
Glad Dion is OK. On the plus side, maybe it will knock some sense into him… oh wait, nevermind smh
We might win this game by default in the second quarter. They’re gonna have 4 guys foul out.
Good! Arthur should be ejected for that thuggery
oh. well thank you.
Dude should be ejected. That’s so lazy.
I mean that guy just shoved him in mid-air
Even the rotations are making sense tonight so far. Still three quarters to go so enough time for the “bad” Cavs to show up. Only negative I’d say thus far is Dion is still only looking for his shot as soon as the ball is passed to him. That dude has to get with the program.
By the way Evil, that recap you wrote in the last thread was Genius :). I laughed heartily.
I was just channelling my inner Cols ;)
Oh man! That’s got to be a Flagrant Foul!!
Dion what the heck was that? just lay it off the dang glass
Anybody know if AC is gushing because gee is in the game?
no, no, no… okay it worked this time
Raff-That’s what i was saying. Lebron’s man hit that three at the other end cuz Lebron quit after Dion’s shot. He’s got to get over Dion’s chucking quicker.
Or he wants Dion to learn the detrimental nature of chucking at the wrong time
If there was a drinking game where every time Dion either took a selfish/long shot or didn’t finish at the rim and the other team got either a runout in transition or transition three… you’d be drunk by halftime.
Scotch – totally agree. We can all see that Lebron is frustrated. But pouting like a little girl when Kyrie or Dion go rogue isn’t going to help – he needs to lead by example.
I’m happy that cols is enjoying this live. I am listening to the radio broadcast and it appears the cavs are playing both ends of the court.
By the way, I bet $100 on Cols taking all the credit for this win just because he was there and was good luck for the Cavs.
No, no, no, no, no, NO!!! Dion
Lebron HATES it when Waiters shoots those threes that stall the offense. He quit on that play after Waiters shot and it was HIS MAN then that made the three. Get over it, Bron. Dion’s a chucker for now. Gotta play on.
Man, this Nuggets team does not like to waste the shot clock!
TT!! CANADIAN DYNAMITE!!
Really wanted Miller to hit that one
Scotch – you’re right. Hopefully they keep up the D, although we prob shouldn’t get too excited. This Nuggets team has zero firepower.
LeBron needs to be Magic Johnson on this team. Kyrie needs to play off the ball.
Raff, we only looked this good on offense in the Knicks game. Defense was nowhere close to this.
Thank you scotch! Now I know I didn’t just go crazy and imagine this new Cavs ball movement offense…
Lebron is setting the pace on defense and finding a role on offense. It’s exactly what he’s been looking for…
It’s about time.
Much better ball movement today. Hopefully this lasts (we looked this good at the beginning of the Knicks game). Getting Love involved early is the key.
Now this is how I imagined this offense would operate. Granted, it’s against a Nuggets team that gives up 114 pts per game, but after the last few games, a welcome sight.
ha i’m here EvilGenius…i’m stunned at this ball movement is all. We look like an entirely different roster at both ends.
Love that Matrix corner three!
Why do I feel like I’m just talking to myself like a schizophrenic Cavs fan?
Missing shots, but LOVING the way the Cavs are sharing the ball tonight!
LBJ with a whole other GEAR tonight!!
In other news… Wiggins scored 6 points tonight
LBJ just Mozgovved Mozgov!
Great passing!! Way to go Kyrie! Awesome execution!
OH NO!!! SuperNate is starting! Cavs are DOOMED!!
Another start for the Matrix
If you want a Cols “Pre-Cap” of tonight’s game, it’s posted in the comments of Krolik’s fine Kyrie article.
I think you should provide a Cols post on every thread. Kinda like a Frank Caliendo thing. All in good fun of course.
I would, but even I couldn’t stand to write that much positivity
I say we win by fewer than 10 points. It’ll be messy with some shite D, but they will run one of the plays Underdog mentioned. It’ll work but they won’t run it again for reasons unknown. Kyrie will score a lot.
No Kraken tonight with JaVale McGee and the MANIMAL prowling the paint.
Welcome to Colorado – Home of Cols the VOR (“voice of reason”)
I’m going to go out on a limb here and say Cavs 112 Nuggets 99. One of these days I’ll be right.
