Live Thread: Cavs Vs. Pistons

Cavs take on the now-Josh-Smith-less Pistons this afternoon, and it’s clear the Pistons are in full on rebuilding mode. The key to beating the Pistons: knock them out early to break their will. Not to jinx anything, but some fourth quarter rest for the starters would be a blessing. That might be a tall order without Kyrie for the second straight game. I’ll be happy with a malady-free win.
if blatt was fired Jackson would be the 1st to call griff for the job—who knows they may have already talked —

Did these guys go to Manziel’s the other night too?? Shooting % is getting worse. Just don’t get this team at all.
Every player on this team bears responsibility for their own play…or lack thereof…with that said so does Dan Gilbert for his decision on making the worst coaching hire in the history of this basketball team…let me be the first to call for David Blatt’s firing…I did not from the beginning think he was the right coach to to lead this team to a successful season…he clearly lacks the competence to coach at this level,he has no clue to what it takes to coach elite players or how to evaluate the players on this team…There are coaches at the college level… Read more »
Mark Jackson was dodging the Cavs before Lebron came on. George Karl was the only coach vocal about giving him a chance. He said he really wanted to coach Kyrie. I don’t remember anything about Hollins but it wasn’t negative.
worldbfree- right on with your assessments/ although they are getting old—the ” personality ” of this team is / or has been formed and it is not a positive trait —- WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH—-QUIT—-would like to see more of haywood/ realize he is not going to be the total answer to problems but believe he can give some nice minutes off the bench—-the nba has evolved into an ” athletic ” league and not sure if the cavs have enough of the top notch type of athlete to compete for even an eastern title

Most of the team will be embarrassed in the film session. Lebron hopefully most of all. And I hope Blatt puts his job on the line by calling lebron out on it privately. Those two need to come to an understanding about who is committed to do what. And losing Andy hurts in a lot of ways I didn’t realize it would. He is usually the guy to stop our poor offensive streaks.
Simple, obvious trend:
1) Cavs move the ball, get everyone (esp. K-Love) involved… Cavs crush opponents, play good defense.
2) Lebron starts playing hero-ball… Cavs suck, get killed.
3) Lebron mopes on court, blames the rest of the team, talks about being a leader.
He’s right he is a leader — in destroying the team concept he spends so much time preaching, undermining the coach, and putting himself before everything else always.
Can’t find any problems in your trend observations. Whole team should be embarrassed.
Unrelated to the game, I made dol sot bib bim bop for dinner. I am devouring it as I type. Anybody here love Korean food please give me dishes to try because I’ve settled into a rotation of 5 dishes and need to break out of a rut.
There’s no silver lining – this is just plain embarrassing. I can understand that sometimes good teams lose to bad teams. What bothers me about the Cavs is their utter willingness to QUIT in the middle of games. I understand Lebron going 4-17, but not how, as a leader, he mopes and argues obvious calls (or no calls). I understand that Dion is hoping for a foul, but how may times is he going to drive 1 on 3 and throw up a prayer while screaming “And 1!” It get’s on my nerves. Man – Its just hard to swallow games like this. The chemistry on this team is taking a long time to develop. Is it LBJ, the young guys, Blatt? Tough to tell. But it is really confounding.
No he is not on the hot seat. This is a players problem loss, not a coach problem loss. We have missed a billion and two wide open shots and every opportunity at the rim has been snuffed out by the long arm of the law Andre Drummond. Plus they have made contested threes like they are practicing alone on the court
I disagree I’ve seen a lot to suggest that LeBron isn’t a big fan of Blatt and he has the ability to get a coach fired. This isn’t an isolated incident. This is becoming a pattern.
A pattern of lack of effort defensively from Lebron, yes. What is the pattern you see with Blatt that causes you so much concern? Is it the development of Dion’s defense? Is it the development of Kyrie’s defense? Is it the injuries we have sustained? Is it the lack of size that should go on Blatt?
I’ve seen a pattern of LBJ not buying into Blatt. The rest of those things that you stated do not matter if LeBron does not like his head coach.

I’ve seen him dismiss him in time outs, breaking off and ignoring Blatts play call to run his own plays, giving little effort on the defensive end. I’ve seen these things live and heard media rumblings to back it up even further. If you don’t think this is LeBrons team then you must not realize the power he has as a star player.
I agree, that’s why the Cavs will never with a championship with LBJ on the team. Feel bad for Blatt, if thing fall out he’s probably the one to go while the Cavs stuck with LBJ the rest of this career.

Again, not going to happen. Blatt will never bench LBJ and LBJ won’t try and get Blatt fired.
Cavs lost steam when LBJ came in because he is in “chill mode” and just jacking up lazy jumpers because he keeps fumbling the ball away on drives.
Just a general lack of focus against a lowly team. Maybe he thinks he can just beat the Pistons with 50% effort, and maybe he’s right, but it’s not a good recipe for getting rest late in games.
This dude at the public rec center (he hates LBJ by the way) thinks lebron gets so dramatic and looks for attention when things derail when he is on the court. Then an ok lebron trots out after half and decides to be the best player on the planet. All for effect. While I disagree with the guy I can see why he might feel that way with episodes like the past 5 minutes.

He definitely likes things to be about him, but what NBA star doesn’t? He’s always done his best Willis Reed impression with the small bumps and bruises for sure.

Jennings just out there like it’s pre-game warmups shooting uncontested threes. LeBron looking like he had a stroke and forgot how to handle the basketball.
Another example of the Cavs just not sticking it to a vastly inferior team when they can after a big lead and giving said team irrational confidence.
I cant remember a single time when Dion shouted and 1 and made the shot!

Love has gone streaking down the lane more in this game than he has all season. Great to see!
He has looked constantly gassed, but slightly better the past few games, his conditioning might finally be getting where it needs to be so he can play both defense and offense.
Maybe he and LBJ split a pizza before the game for some needed carbs.

But in all seriousness, the Cavs shouldn’t need Kyrie to beat the Pistons, as long as they buck the trend of playing down to the competition. TT and KLove will have their hands full with Drummond and Monroe.
The only upside for Kyrie being out is for Nate since he won’t be helping me for a second straight fantasy game. If I lose to Nate this week, I’m placing the blame squarely on Uncle Drew’s shoulders…
