Live Thread: Cavs at Hawks

The Cavs get a chance to enact revenge after the beatdown they suffered two weeks ago. Unfortunately, they’ll be without LeBron James who is sitting out with knee soreness. LeBron’s 20s were some of the best ever seen. Let’s hope it extends into his 30s. The Hawks have been one of the NBA’s most pleasant surprises. Kyrie Irving is back tonight, Jeff Teague gets another shot at the Cavs (he was absent for the last meeting).
We’re catching you midway through the first half – the Cavs lead 34-33 and Kyrie already has 10 points and five dimes.

And they played with effort and some fire, kind of like in the OKC game without LBJ. It’s obvious that when he’s in there, LBJ sets the tone. If he’s in “chill mode” then most everyone else is too. TT seems to be the only guy who is immune to “chill mode” and that’s probably because he’s in “playing for his next deal” mode.
can’t rebound and can’t make free throws was opitome of the game tonight…especially one this close…plus horrendous pick n roll defense involving same two guys every time
That and all the turnovers. 18 total and 12 of those by Kyrie and Dion

Well, when you’re trying to execute pick and roll defense with old guys and rookies, it’s that much harder
They just don’t have enough big men to stop Milsap
As Millsap I only 6’8″, that’s really disheartening.
Well, after TT (with Andy, LBJ, Love all out) I think nobody other than Amundsen and Kirk is over 6’8. And most of them are 6’6 and under.
I thought TT was playing him well. Millsap backs into him, pushes off with the arm, and then TT gets called for a foul. The refs opened the gate for Millsap.
Really could’ve used a better game from Dion…

Yep, this is pretty much the opposite of the fold jobs against the Pistons and the Hawks last time: getting down and showing some fight.

Does anyone remember LeBron’s last birthday game in Cleveland when Varejao won the game with a three? Think about that for a moment. We’re complaining about this team and needed Varejao to can a three to beat a much worse version of the Hawks than we’re seeing now.

this is ugly…cavs just slow it down for Love and it ends in disaster….where is the motion offense where everyone is moving around? i thought that was Blatt’s offense…right?
It’s pretty obvious that the Cavs aren’t running the type of offense Blatt would like to run.
I feel the same but what is the source? Players inability to run it or they don’t believe or want to?
I’d guess a little bit of stubbornness and a some distrust. I’m sure they can learn it. Asking them to learn it in one pre-season plus one quarter season might be a bit much.
I can understand the resistance. People tend to be a little reluctant to adapt. At some point, they have to buy in, though. This offense sucks. And the anticipated lights-out three point shooting has been poor. Some of that comes from getting guys good looks.
Someone needs to walk up and punch Korver in the face.

I’m watching on the DVR so I’m a few minutes behind, but that Carroll/Millsap fast break was exactly how you run a fast break: you keep passing (no dribbling involved) until the defense commits and get an open layup. I wish the Cavs ran fast breaks like that…
Cavs need to cut back on the turnovers.
Cavs need to go back to playing the way they had in the 1st quarter. Ball didn’t move as much in quarter 2.
dion looks horrific Love lays on the court waiting for phantom fouls and no one really rebounds but Tristan…not much Blatt can do with this bunch to be honest
Cavs looking like the JV team in the second quarter. Smaller, less athletic, struggling to make basic passes. Hawks moving up the court like an avalanche – it was only a matter of time before the lid came off the rim.
13 Turnovers in the half… 8 in this quarter. Recipe for losing basketball.
