Live Thread: Cavs Vs 76ers
2015-02-02Tonight is a crucial game for the Cavaliers and this blog. The Cavs are trying to continue their revenge tour by avenging their 95-92 loss to the 76ers on January 5th. Last meeting the Cavs blew a 17 point lead with both Kyrie Irving and LeBron James not playing. Nonetheless, that isn’t an excuse for the Cavs poor execution. Especially since Kevin Love put up 28 points and had 19 rebounds that night. This game will be the fully loaded edition, as all three Cleveland stars will be dominating along with recently acquired game changers Timofey Mozgov, Iman Shumpert, and J.R. Smith. All three new guys are arguably better than anyone the Sixers will put on the floor tonight. It’s mind blowing to think how much the roster has changed in just one month.
The second and arguably more interesting story line of the night deals with two writers. Both Cavs: The Blog bloggers Nate and Cory will be in attendance. If the Cavs lose, Nate and Cory may never be allowed to go to a game together for the rest of their lives. The bad luck police would have to patrol all Cavs home games to make sure that they never happened to enter the Q in tandem, even if by accident. If the Cavs pull out the win, well, fans of the blog should be ready to pony up cash or some tickets because there’s important home games the Cavs must win.
Cavs should close this game out quickly and have their bench emptied by the forth. Still, the Cavs will win it large to make a statement with win number 11, 110-92.
weird end to the half…nice to hold them to less than 40 but would have liked to have gotten at least 25 a quarter. geepers…they aren’t this good.
Kyrie’s shot is off… airballs make me sad :(
“You reach, and I teach!” Love it AC hahaha
Kyrie gotta move that ball
Imagine once the Sixers get Embiid down low along with Nerlens… Talk about LENGTH inside… They’ll be bigger than even Drummond and Monroe in Detroit…
Except Embiid is a blimp now… so it’s been reported.
I don’t know if I believe that unless I see it…
There was an article recently that claimed he hasn’t been rehabbing properly, up to 300 lbs, and foot still messed up.
With him at 300 and Noel at 200 they should balance each other out…no?
Touche my friend, EG. hahahaha!!!
I agree. But think if they get the top pick and go with the okafor kid from duke.
They probably are eyeing the kid from Ohio State, whose name I cannot recall right now.
The OSU player is D’Angelo Russell. He’s a projected top 5 pick.
Living in Columbus we know that young jan is going pro. He has nothing left to prove at OSU.
where the heck was that foul there? I hate that refs automatically call a foul on blocks from behind.
Especially when it looks as if the red didn’t have an angle. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/01/150129094218.htm
Was that word spacing for dramatic effect, or did it just randomly come out that way?
I have no clue. My iPhone is acting funny. Anybody know how these can change because it looked regular when I hit submit.
Forget that paste. It’s about a condition that I have that I sent to my wife. I have no clue why it came in here too.
Agreed scotch, thought that was clean… maybe got him on the head.
Tom Brady can’t do that anymore.
He might have to ask his wife for permission.
MOZ WITH THE CRUSH… ahead to JR FOR THE JAM!
Another terrific sequence from these guys… Love’s outlet was amazing too…
Wow. What a sequence. Love on one foot like a ballerina.
Hell yeah! That was sweet. Block by Moz, outlet pass to JR from Love.
ahahaahaha that was freakin awesome!
Mike Miller getting some run.
Moz looks like a big baby deer out there right now… at least he got fouled…
Nice attack by Shump…. getting to the line!
I think gilbert will open the check book for him too next year.
he had better. he’s a necessity if we are to make a run at multiple titles
Agreed… he was Waiters’ replacement in my mind…. young and coming up.
Here is an idea that I don’t think Adam silver would ever allow: players in game tweeting. Jr smith or tt would be essential follows.
Ha that will never happen but i would love to hear coach tweets. btw shump is having a fantastic game. all effort. would not mind having him run the pg on the bench unit tonight…delly is not well matches for some reason.
I think the sixers are way too agile for him. Delly is a full step behind their guards
On JR’s twitter page, for location, it says, “In My Own Head.”
That alone is a must follow there.
there’s that bonus! and yeah C6H12O6 we need to get him out of there. That will open up the whole game.
Noel can show up like a ninja.
Sixers are playing hard!
KLove with the AWESOME rejection of Noel…
Think love will make a career high in blocks this year?
Cavs need to get out and run a bit more to widen the gap
Locking down on defense has really fueled their offensive rhythm
GREAT fake from KLove!!
Bonus time by the 6 minute mark. Energy seems to be there but we are unfocused.
I want them to get Noel in foul trouble
I think the sixers’ athleticism is bothering them a little bit, but totally agree about the energy.
Shump is playing solid.
Shump’s looking better and better.
A couple ugly possessions from Delly.
I’m glad he’s being more aggressive with his shot, just has to be smarter about when.
Just like that LBJ! All day long!
Noel might get 10 blocks tonight if we keep challenging him like that.
Yeah dude has guard like defensive skills. I bet he had a crazy growth spurt as a kid like Anthony Davis did.
Great two man game with Delly and Shump… didn’t know that Shump could shoot so well.
Too many jump shots… but at least TT is working hard in the middle
Sixers sideilne reporter just referred to Ache-ron, Ohio.
Oh man. Wonder what he was thinking.
sixers have so many leapers.
Ran the offense, easy jumper for LBJ…. great defense, should’ve came down with the rebound.
Cavs went cold in the latter part of the quarter, but even with the Matrix gaffe, they’re looking good. Don’t think the Sixers can break 75 against this D…
Their defense has done a complete 360 over the losing then winning streak.
Marion!!! What the hell are you thinking?
I guess he wanted a block shot for his stats. Never should have left the ground and I bet he still would have missed it
HAHA… not much Arch! I think he just got caught up in being aggressive.
Man… defense was incredible until Matrix went for the pump fake! Oh well, great defensive quarter, solid offense. Glad they brought the energy against a team that won’t quit even though their record would suggest so.
I don’t know what’s going on with all of the bounce passes, but I LOVE it! Nothing cooler than a well-timed bounce pass… lost art
Stockton to Malone was the gold standard when I was a teen
They were pretty stellar… Glad Stockton got the State Farm ad… he might be the GOAT of passers
I agree there v but i am biased with my vote. My mom used to make fun of his short shorts though. Even now I think those YouTube clips make me nostalgic for less hot dogging.
Agreed… also I’ve notice the last few games that LBJ and Kyrie quit one handing the pocket passes, being more fundamentally sound with the two hand bounce pass.
Yeah my boys try the bounce passes in our tv room. They try that move where they look away and not fool anybody though. I tell they “let’s do the fundamentals first. Less mustard on the hot dog”. Now mustard on the dog is their new saying.
HAHAHA I like that Chemist!
scotch I agree with love being a great rebounder –but check out larry bird and even more impressive ohio state great jerry lucas both of them were not great jumppers but were very good at anticipating where the ball was going to go and positioning—believe lucas lead the nba 2 yrs in a row with an avg of 20 rpg
My dad used to make me demonstrate the bird box out on our mini hoop in the basement. I want really small but it’s true that leverage and technique go a long way in rebounding.
Lucas had reach on nearly everyone so I guess i should have clarified because most big white guys don’t out jump people but kevin can neither out jump anyone NOR reach above too many others. I agree Bird was a good rebounder without a vertical to speak of…but kevin love is still a much better rebounder than he was.
Happy for Larry Drew that his kid is playing… bummed for him that it’s with the Sixers…
Maybe his best shot at a long term contract. I like his game better than Aaron craft.
Though the sixers are bad they honestly play serious defense when challenging shots. Not that they are good defensively but they make the effort.
They are an athletic group of guys…. have no shooters though.
actually they are quite good at defense lately. They nearly beat the hawks but couldn’t score at the end…and have forced more turnovers than anyone in the nba.
SHUMP! Coast to Coast with the steal!
Who’s hair is higher… Nerlens or Iman?
Equivalent kid and play box fades.
Kyrie is making plays for others in the early going, same as Love. Loving the defense right now!
The Cavs can get anything they want if they push the tempo. The 76ers are not disciplined in their transition defense.
And they should be able to drive all day long… Outside of Nerlens, they don’t have much to get in the way…
great point coolshah… every time they’ve pushed it for early offense, it’s clicking.
SHUMP with the RUBBER RIM THREE!
Love is a rebounding machine!
Cavs still getting open looks, just not hitting them…
kevin love is the best rebounder of all time who cannot jump. holy crap.
Truth right there scotch!
What an effort from KLove!!!
why can lebron not hold onto the dang ball?!! does he have a broken finger we don’t know about? it’s maddening!
Cause his wrist is still probably not 100% I’d guess…
i hope so…but it’s been that way from day one this season. it’s a weird thing to lose the ability to do as you age…
He seemed a lot better after he came back from his two-week break… I really suspect it’s his wrist now
WOW…. too bad they both went for that alley oop hahaha! Great defense, great offense…. just bringing the energy tonight! The bench needs to sustain this energy!
Can the Sixers get to 60 points? So far tonight it doesn’t look like it.
That play went from “high octane” to “rugby scrum” in less than 3 seconds…
Great description there EG! ahhahaha!
Love and Moz both open for the alley oop get in each other’s way. Need the ‘same’ call there.
KLove with another charge to add to his (I’m assuming) team lead!
Yes! Fred confirmed it
I know the king of charges (AV) is out, but who’da thunk it would’ve been KLove leading the team in them??
Kevin Love’s passing ability is severely underrated.. And there he goes drawing another charge
KLove with the awesome bounce pass to a streaking LBJ FOR THE JAM!!!!
I completely forgot about Jason Richardson… I thought he retired…
JR SWISHHHH!!!!!
Cory got lowers for $50 lucky bastard. Here’s my view.
And here I had the image of you guys sharing some drafts and high fiving Delly Treys!
HAHAHA… excellent call there EG, I feel a big night coming on for Delly!!!
I have a feeling it’s gonna be raining 3s all night long
AW DAMN!! I wanted that alley oop even more than JR!
Candidate for one of my FAVORITE sequences of the year!!
We are going to destroy this team.
Brent Brown with the 20 second rager!
2 nice passes by Kyrie early here, and man… Philly can’t shoot!
MOZGOD!!!!!!! With the CRUSH!
Mozilla with a rim wrecker!
Man, Nerlens can GET UP!
KLove for three!!!
Cavs win this one to get some Philly revenge…
#ItGoesToEleven!
#C:tBKarma!!!!!!
HAHAHA…. love the part about the CtB attendence karma! Hope y’all enjoy the experience Nate and Cory!
@ESPNNBA: Cavs starting 5 of Irving, James, Love, Smith & Mozgov outscored opponents by 29.3 points per 100 possessions when on court together in Jan.
That’s prettay, prettay, prettay good.
Thanks Larry David!
