CtB Podcast, Episode 61 — Trade Deadline Musings
2015-02-20https://soundcloud.com/ctb-5/trade-deadline-musings-cavs-the-blog-podcast-episode-61
After a frenetic trade deadline which saw 9% of the NBA moved, David Wood, Mallory Factor, and I answered the call of the CtB staffer’s conch, and assembled to podcast. We discuss trade day winners and losers, how Thursday’s trades effect the Cavs, our predictions for the the rest of the regular season, and Kevin Love’s highly retouched GQ cover. Also, included on this podcast is a fun episode of, “Story Time with Mallory.” We approach each subject with our brand of somewhat detail-oriented analysis and late night punchiness. Listen on Soundcloud above, with this link, or check us out on iTunes.
–Update: Technical difficulties scuttled the first Soundcloud post. Computers… am-I-right? All should be well now (though if the iTunes link isn’t updated yet, just wait for it).
—Update II: Thanks to @pinwheelempire for the awesome trade deadline 2015 flowchart. Check out the full version here.
Shump is thumping ’em. It’s gotta be the hair.
SHUMP!!! HE SHOULD NEVER CUT HIS HAIR AGAIN!!!!
#SAMPSON
Moz won that clash of the titans with Gortat…
Great feed by Love to MOZGOD!!!
Appreciate this makeshift Live Game Thread guys. Always a pleasure reading the comments during the game.
We are the commentariat! Nothing can stop us! We will jailbreak at the drop of a Cavs hat… ;)
Good start for Shump!
SHUMP! MUST BE THE HAIR!!!!!!!!!
LBJ looking REFRESHED!!!!!!!
Take that Kardasian!
Speaking of hair… I think I liked Gortat better with the mohawk… Like a giant Taxi Driver
Good call, EG HAHAHA!
RUDY RUDY RUDY!!!
That was a really nice teardrop!
No glass, right? That isn’t easy to do.
No glass… all class….
Really glad he’s deciding to shoot it when they sag off of him.
Love just 1 for 2 in the first quarter, FWIW. A departure from the usual focus on getting him going early.
Wizards big men are actually doing a really good job of denying him the ball, and defending all around.
He’s made a huge impact with his passing already, though. I’d love to see him with 30 points tonight just for his confidence, but he’s making a big impact regardless.
Seriously… Shump’s hair is OUT OF CONTROL!
We’re just too good. This game had the feeling of “it’s over” about 3 minutes in. Washington just doesn’t have the pieces to stop our offense.
I’m really looking forward to playing Atlanta again. I want to see that matchup. It’s Atlanta, Chicago, and us. Everything else in the East is just noise.
Atlanta down to Raps by four at half…
I still like DC… they’re missing Beal now which hurts them considerably. I agree with your general sentiment, Cavs have plenty of weapons to get it done.
Beal is very overrated. Dude is supposed to be a great shooter but he’s yet to hit 42% of his FG in a season so far in his career.
He’s a good player, but he’s not a star. Obviously Washington is better with him healthy, but he’s just not anything scary IMO.
I don’t think he’s overrated by any stretch. But I do agree with you, he hasn’t shot well this year. I think it’s more of an exception than the rule.
I just don’t think 42% shooters are good shooters. People act like Beal is this budding star, and he’s just not.
Not saying YOU think that, but it’s the “feel” a lot of people have with him. I don’t see it.
Sub-15.00 PER each season in his career.
He’s a slightly more hyped/slightly (SLIGHTLY) better Dion Waiters. Better 3pt shooter, better decision maker, less skilled driving, Dion Waiters.
Point well made, Gordon… I feel what you’re saying.
It’s almost creepy how identical Beal’s and Waiters’ career stats are.
Both at 41.7% shooting for their career. Both 0.3 blocks. Both 1.0 steals. 1.8/1.9 TOs.
HAHAHA… you’re starting to make me doubt myself! That said, Beal’s a much better spot up shooter than Waiters, from what I’ve seen of him.
You’re definitely right. Beal is a much better 3pt shooter. But overall numbers, I feel like the two are twins.
Good production but I’d like to see a little more passing.
And a little more defense… Wiz missed some open shots…
Agreed. We could be up 20 if we didn’t settle so much. Our biggest obstacle is fighting our own talent… it’s very easy for this team to settle for jumpers after dominating when we actually pass. We get that “let’s blow it open” look in our eyes once or twice a quarter.
Love this team!
Cavs with an explosive first quarter of scoring… that last LBJ ill-fated jack notwithstanding…
Offense is humming…. Need to the defense to buckle down with Shump/Delly/TT on the court.
Yeah… keep taking that three ball JWall! Cavs will win by 30
HAHA…. I thought that when Kyrie closed out on him a couple of possessions ago, I was like, “Let him shoot that!”
TT cleaning up the glass!
Cavs lookin good. Lebron’s got that late season focus look about him
Totally agree believeLAND… he looks different on the court tonight.
Except for that last ISO clearout double clutch bricked three…
last shot of the quarter, we’ll let it slide
Ditto what believeLAND said.
That was a good time out by Blatt…
Get Kevin Love some touches, I still can’t believe that the Cavs are not giving him some touches.
Should at least be running PnR with him right now. Pick ‘n pop might be more like it..
I think Kyrie should step up, be a leader, and get him the ball.
Well, they certainly had a lot of chances on that possession…
Liked how Love got it to JR on that sequence, you’d expect him to make that one.
Would’ve rather Kyrie pass it to Love who had his man sealed under the basket.
Looks like All-Star Game: The Sequel so far the way both teams are chucking.
Some brick by Shumpert.
They need to get Love more involved.
Totally agree… the offense should run thru him when LBJ is out.
Agreed. He’s made some fantastic passes so far and is rebounding well, but there’s zero reason why Smith, Shump, and TT should all have as many/equal shots as Love right now.
Preach it, Gordon…
I don’t like the way they’re running the offense right now.
I think Shump’s hair grew like 4 inches over the break…
Doing a great job of shooting a bunch of bad jumpers right now.
It’s really just JR and Shump with back to back bad Js
Man Love was open in the post… Guys need to get the ball to him.
Kris Humphries is so annoying…
Cavs hustling now to closeout on D…
Why is Kevin Seraphin not playing? Is he injured?
TT in there fighting for that rebound…
If LeBron begins to hit that mid range jumper is over.
Oh boy… here’s the oft-used see-saw graphic that ESPN loves to use for the Cavs season…
And Van Gundy… “Cavs are still only middle of the pack on defense, but they have a chance to be a really great offense.”
I wish someone would tell him that our defensive ranking on average over the entire season doesn’t matter considering it’s been one of the better defenses in the league since the trades…
@JasonLloydABJ: Chris Paul’s favorite official, Lauren Holtkamp, making her first appearance working a #Cavs game since that night
Loving how LBJ is looking. Offense is CLICKING! Defense came around after a shaky start.
They look really good on offense… need to tighten the D a little, but I’m guessing they will…
HAHAHA… read my mind EG! Glad to see I’m not the only one!
Cavs looked well rested and reenergized
Cavs on pace to score about 200 points.
Kyrie to MOZ for the CRUSH!!
Nene is abusing Mozilla
Nene’s not exactly stopping the Cavs drivers either though….
He’s too quick for Moz.
Moz had a nice recovery block from behind on Nene’s last attempt, though!
It’s a good matchup… I’ve always liked Nene.
JR gets two birds in the air and then a nice layup off of the KLove TD pass
Nice outlet pass to JR
Kyrie with two of his how-does-he-do-that finishes finding small windows at the rim.
Getting abused inside early. I like our pace though!
Everybody seems to be going strong to the rack tonight! I LIKE IT!
Love with the nice hands… and just when I thought they might blow another fast break… Kyrie to LBJ for the JAM!!!
Two pieces of good news: Mark Jackson isn’t doing the game. And Lauren Holtkamp is.
Those are both good news!
I love our three buckets so far. Back door cut, layup, oop… sweet.
Nice two man game there between Love and Moz…
This only seems to happen on Friday nights… The nerve of those C:tBers having lives outside of the Cavs… ;)
Who is doing the live thread?
looks like we are the only ones around!
I’m also prowling around these parts
Good to see you Gordon!
There is a growing feeling among GMs and league executives who are interested in signing Ray Allen that the veteran guard won’t play this season, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports. Allen has been mulling a comeback all season, but neither he, nor his agent Jim Tanner, have made any definitive statements that the player would return to the hardwood during the 2014/15 campaign, Wojnarowski adds. It was rumored that the 39-year-old sharpshooter was going to make a choice regarding his future shortly after the All-Star break. Allen has been working out, but not at a pace that would allow… Read more »
Okay… this Andrew Sharp Grantland piece on the trade deadline winners and losers made me laugh out loud several times…
http://grantland.com/the-triangle/trade-deadline-winners-and-losers-the-suns-regroup-the-heat-reload-and-the-sixers-re-tank/
Special mentions for the included tweets like the one from someone named Joan Neilsen:
“Kevin Garnett going back to Minnesota to mentor Andrew Wiggins is basically the plot of “Whiplash,” right?”
And KJ McDaniels’ mom…
Plus any writer that can work my handle into a story is alright with me…
On dumping MCW: “Flipping him for anything would have been reasonable, but getting that Lakers pick back is an act of evil genius.”
I read or heard someone today refer to Riley as an Evil Genius… I think it was in the Kevin Pelton chat.
Riles is an evil genius… but not in the fun way like I am…
The girl from Rubblebucket sings like the guy from Sigur Ros.
I’m going to check Rubblebucket and Sigur Ros out tonight. Although I might not be hip to the genre, I usually pick up on the “real deal”.
Sigur Ros is great! Especially their album ( )
Was on Woj’s twitter page the last hour up to the trade window and it was just crazy. Nothing all day then madness!
I still wish that the deadline was later in the day. 12 PST is way too early.
The reason we’re looking for backup players is that the Cavs can win the championship if they’re healthy. Without depth, they likely won’t if a key performer goes down. Good thing we’re 2/3 of the way there.
Definitely. A rotation of just eight players is not championship level depth. Need 9-10 guys that Blatt can trust to put in at any given time.
8 is all you need in the playoffs.
Assuming no suspensions or injuries. Always have a backup plan.
Fun podcast per usual guys! Loved the debate over trade deadline winners and losers. Agree with Mallory that the Bucks were the big winners. They will be very good very soon. I didn’t think much of them early, but I like the moves they’re making and getting JKidd as their coach was the smartest thing they’ve done in hindsight. I’d probably go more with Nate’s prediction of 18-9 for the Cavs the rest of the way. If they can get to 50-51 wins and the 3 seed, they should be in good shape for the playoffs. Even if they’re the… Read more »
I usually like Linklater, but I thought Boyhood was awful. I couldn’t wait for it to end. The best scene was the mini Lifetime movie re the alcoholic step dad in the middle of the film. I wanted him to come back later on and kill of all the characters. Instead I had to watch this kid awkwardly transition thru puberty and watch Ethan Hawk sport the 70s pornstache for way too long.
Don’t disagree with you. I was not a fan of it either. Birdman should win… just giving you a bit of what I hear since I know a lot of Academy members who voted for Boyhood…
Yeah I thought I would have liked Birdman more than I had. It was solid, but forgettable.
Boyhood seems like that movie that gets awards for how ambitious it was rather than how good it was. I liked Birdman, but feel like a lot of reasons it will win revolve Hollywood’s love of itself (no offense).
That being said, I would watch the crap of the Raymond Carver play. And Birdman was a fun depiction of theater. I’m not sure if the magical realism helped or hurt the movie.
True on both fronts. Both Birdman and Boyhood were more accomplishments of filmmaking rather than revelations in storytelling. One of the best stories of the year was Imitation Game, but the filmmaking was just okay in my opinion.
I think I had the most enjoyable Oscar-worthy viewing experience with NightCrawler, Grand Budapest Hotel and Gone Girl… fwiw
I do want to see NightCrawler badly, and I’ve been waiting to watch Gone Girl. I’ve an enormous crush on Rosamund Pike. However, Ben Affleck, Director >>> Ben Affleck, Actor. So that one should be interesting.
I just read about Life Itself, and I’m a huge Ebert fan, so now I have to watch it. Want to see Whiplash too.
Best films I saw last year were Inherent Vice and X-Men. Under the Skin was probably the most disturbing.
That being said, for me, True Detective blew away everything I saw on the big or small screen last year.
Life Itself is terrific! We almost hired that director for another project. If you’re a fan of Ebert, you will love it… but be ready to cry.
If you have a thing for Rosamund Pike… run don’t walk to see Gone Girl! Affleck be damned! (he’s actually pretty good in this which I credit to Fincher’s direction).
Whiplash is also a must see in my opinion. But you’re right about True Detective. Just awesome…
Thought McConaughey really got robbed out of the Emmy. Too bad they put it in as a series instead of a mini-series. Thought he was better than Cranston, but Cranston was due (though I’m still like 5 episodes from finishing BB).
Loved “Whiplash” and thought it was the best of the 3 (Whiplash, Gone Girl, Nightcrawler). Really want to see “Inherent Vice.” I really like PT Anderson flicks.
Inherent Vice kicked everyone’s butt on move posters, IMO. https://www.google.com/search?q=inherent+vice+posters&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=DJLnVK_GMuK1sATh_ICgBg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1851&bih=929
Ethan Hawke might have the highest standard deviation between good movies and bad. He’s like the Dion Waiters of actors. The guy’s in Gattaca and Getaway (2% on rotten tomatoes).
I hear he’s accused other actors of playing buddy ball too!
Ethan is one of those guys who’s popularity as an actor has kind of gone in waves over the years, but he’s always working. When he’s not in demand for a Linklater movie, or hot off of a turn in something like Training Day, he usually takes whatever is available… thus the lesser ones…
To tie it all together, that And The Kids record was produced by Ian Hersey, the guitarist from Rubblebucket
Wow! That’s pretty cool. I definitely will be checking out Rubblebucket next…
The Sixers are the worst. Their GM should be fired ASAP.
Why? He’s made ownership a TON of money. And isn’t that the name of their game?
That’s one of the dumbest comments you’ve ever written.
He’s clearly doing what he has been told to do and his pick stockpiling is ridiculous. I think they will begin trying to build a proper team together this year once Embiid is back and with this many trade assets he could trade for pretty much any solid (not superstar) NBA player around.
I think it’s hysterical how the media laughs at the Lakers and Knicks tanking but the 76ers are an abomination who are ruining the integrity of the game. Please!!!
Philly is doing it right, similar to what Cleveland did. Now they have Embiid, Noel, Wroten and this year’s #1 pick (will end up with Okafor or Russell probably), and a plethora of picks to use and/or trade for an established star in a couple of years.
What’s the alternative? Stay a .400 team and never get a star or stars?
I’ve yet to see anything other than the speculation that the Sixers are just a cash machine: minimum payroll, absorb contracts, sell picks and prospects for cash, rinse, repeat. The K.J. McDaniel thing really sold that for me. They traded him cause they don’t want to pay him next year.
The owners will figure out the peak value for the sixers, sell the team, and move on.
Yep. I agree. It’s a shame so many analytics writers have seemingly bought into the mess the GM is making out of the Sixers.
So in other words… the GM is doing exactly what ownership is asking him to do. It may not be the normal definition of success, but if that’s what they want, then the GM is doing the job that’s being asked of him…
And in a world where the Clips get sold for $2 Billion… I’m sure they’ll get a pretty good ROI when they do decide to sell the team and move on (probably once the cap explodes).
True. I’m saying as far as the goal of winning. They are failing and looks like they will be failing for a long long time. They deserve ridicule, not praise. And if the owners are only in it to make a buck and don’t care about winning at all, then Silver should look into that as well.
Don’t own an NBA team if you don’t care about winning.
Yes… if their goal was winning, they would be failing. But that doesn’t seem like their goal. You’re right that Silver should look into it, but the only way they’ll stop making money is if the fans completely rebel and stop buying tickets to games.
I think Philadelphia’s plan is to become an elite team, not just a contender. It’s their thinking that Joel Embiid will be a Hall of Fame talent. If it weren’t for the back issue prior to the draft, it’s plausible that Embiid would have been drafted by us #1 overall. If he pans out, they have a 7 footer in the mold of Hakeem. Next is Noel, the most talented player in the draft that saw AB go #1 overall. If not for the injury, Cleveland would have drafted Noel. Their thinking is that he becomes an elite shot blocker/defensive… Read more »
Jahlil Okafor* not Jabari Parker
Found a decent article on it:
http://www.libertyballers.com/2015/2/20/8072971/sixers-traded-michael-carter-williams-kj-mcdaniels-trade-deadline
I’ll be honest. I’m not overly impressed with Embiid or Noel. Second, PER is not the end all be all stat, especially for low usage players. McDaniels has the tools to be an elite defensive player. He has the best shot block skills of a wing since Josh Smith was a small forward. His shot block percentage is an extreme outlier for a wing. So yeah, he could be Tony Allen+. IMO, that’s not a guy you give away unless you are trying to lose. That’s what pisses me off about the Sixers. They are purposely trying to lose. What… Read more »
I’m with Nate. The Sixers suck and on’t have anything resembling a franchise guy. At least the Cavs had Irving. The Sixers havenothing but Embiid who hasn’t played at all. They suck. WHat their GM is doing is dumb and awful. If the goal is to lose and draft high, well a lot of teams are doing that, don’t need some crazy anlytics department to tell you how to do that.
Gordon, I think you should go back a couple of threads and read the fascinating debate over what the 76ers really are.

#YouKnowWhat’sCoolerThanAMillionDollars…ABillion…OrTwo
Not crapping on your opinions, but I disagree. And a bunch of teams do tank every year.. it’s the NBA, guys. Philadelphia isn’t the only team doing it. We did it. Any team halfway intelligent does it when they suck. Philadelphia will be worth what it’s worth. Gaining STARS is the only thing that will increase that value. Hoarding assets and tanking for a chance to draft star players is how you acquire stars. Also, I’m not sure how we can evaluate Embiid as an NBA player until we see him play in the NBA. Right now, he’s a player… Read more »
Exactly. The NBA is a stars league and with the cap about to explode (making cap-space redundant) the best / only way for Philly to get a star is through the draft. Nobody wants to root for a team who scrapes the 8th seed.
The Lakers and Celtics will be good before the Sixers
Sorry for the in-and-out audio, guys. Have to make sure I stay up on the mike.
Also, the autoplay video that kept playing every time when I went to a website was really annoying too. Sorry.
I wondered what that was. I thought maybe Mallory’s girlfriend was messing with him…
Yeah, this wasn’t our finest technical hour.
So Kendrick Perkins or Thomas Robinson hmmm. I think I would go with Robinson.
this is a guy just 23 years old.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubsVBkjd8xw
I’d add Perkins if I had to choose. Robinson needs to go somewhere he can actually play and develop. He’d be buried here. Think Miami might be a destination if Bosh is hurt. Huge hole there now. (No jokes intended. That Bosh thing sucks).
Yep. Perkins over Robinson. RObinson sucks at basketball. Theres a reason teams give up on him. Perkins fits our need perfectly 5-10 minutes when Mozzy is in fould trouble or tired.
Would you guys please STOP agreeing! It’s freaking me out…
And Cols, Robinson doesn’t suck at basketball… he’s a poor shooter but a decent defender and an above-average rebounder…
He sucks. He keeps getting cut and traded. THere’s a reason. And that reason is that he’slke th 12th man in the rotation. He’s not good.
I agree with Cols “there’s a reason” logic here.
He’s only been in the league for 2 years, and I would argue that the fact that he’s been traded so much has stunted his development. Big men historically take longer to develop. He’s a perfectly serviceable banger and rebounder… much more so than say Brendan Haywood. Just saying that if Cavs can’t snag Perk, why not try out Robinson. Dude is only 23…
@Cols714 did you not see that video I posted? This guy has crazy potential. Cavs could use his athleticism.
EG: I’d give Robinson a shot if we didn’t land Perkins. We gotta get somebody instead of Perkins. Dude is only 23.
BelieveLAND – Did you see Gumbdrop’s video? Did you see Derrick Williams’ video? Like Cols said – there’s a reason. In typical Cols fashion – he doesn’t know what it is.
Robinson is also a high character guy… I remember some human interest story when he was playing @ Kansas about how he’s taking care/raising his sister (?). Thought it was pretty cool.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSh4uqC3axQ
Interview by Wall Street Journal. Lost both grandparents and his mother in a span of 3 weeks. Now he’s raising his 11 year old sister.
Thanks for the find believeLAND… great story.
Wouldn’t he get a good 12-15 min at backup C? He just seems way too athletic to pass up. I have no idea why Denver would buy him out. I don’t think he’s quite a starter yet, more of an energy guy off he bench.
Robinson, TT, Shump, and Delly would all be energy boosters off the bench. Robinson and TT would be a nightmare together down low.
Why not go for both? Perkins for now and Robinson for later?
I don’t think we have enough roster spots for both.
They do if they cut Harris…
I wouldn’t cut Harris or anyone for Robinson.
Why? What’s Harris done that’s so great? As Nate said on the podcast, Joe hasn’t even been able to shoot over 40% in the D-League this year…
Robinson has been in the league longer and hasn’t proved much either. I wouldn’t give up on Harris just yet. Remember Danny Green? If I’m trading Harris it’s in a package for a much better talent. At best adding TRob seems like a lateral move. I’d rather have Ray Allen or some other vet.
Even if I’m wrong on Harris (which I don’t think I am)… guys like him are a dime a dozen. Cavs have plenty of outside shooting. What they need is another big man. And a young big man with athleticism is potentially a much more valuable piece…
Yea I don’t see a point in signing both. Especially, if Robinson is looking to go to a team where he gets good playing time. This is an interesting debate. Perkins brings championship experience and leadership. He has been known to always work hard and fight for his team mates, they always know that he’ll have their back. Perkins certainly wins in the intangibles category. Robinson brings youth, athleticism and tremendous talent. He brings great shot blocking ability and energy. I think Cleveland is actually a great location for him to develop just because of the leaders that he will… Read more »
I agree with your assessment there at the end, believeLAND. And I agree with Arch Stanton about not cutting Harris… U-Dog(I think?) made the same comparison to Danny Green in a prior thread, and I would wholeheartedly agree with that assessment.
I liked what I saw from Robinson when he was playing in Portland. I think he has a better offensive game than Perkins. But, Perkins fits the role of bully/enforcer much better.
Harris stinks. He can’t average 30% from three in the D-League. There are 30 guys out there who could give the Cavs what he gives them. I like him, but he’s not a good defensive player, not very athletic… He’s, at best, a shooting specialist with some size. He doesn’t do anything well enough to stick in the NBA. To compare him to Danny Green gets a couple things wrong: 1) Danny Green is an excellent athlete, especially when it came to defensive lateral quickness. 2) Danny Green probably had to be cut multiple times to become good enough to… Read more »
I stated much the same as you did Nate in the prior thread re: Harris… without saying that he stinks. Agreed, a better shooter and better offensively than Green at the same age. I also agree that his main liability is on the ball and team defense, no question. However, to say he stinks is, in my opinion, jumping to conclusions. Austin Carr’s opinion of Harris is that he simply lack confidence, but has all the tools/athleticism to compete at an NBA level. You make a good point about Green needing to be cut a couple of times before he… Read more »
He might stink, but at least he doesn’t suck.
My comparison to Danny Green wasn’t meant as a skills comparison, but more to not giving up on a guy half way thru the season (or early for that matter). I’m actually fine with trading him but I don’t see much value in Robinson. I’d rather wait and see. But I’m not very high on TRob as others may be.
Miami was the clear big winner of the trade deadline.
Sixers were losers as usual and will continue to suck forever
OKC did some really nice things as well.
OKC-CLE Finals.
I don’t buy OKC. They have the worst coach in the NBA and Durant has struggled to stay healthy. I think they get bounced in the first round by the Warriors.
They might get bounced, but it won’t be without taking a few games from GS. Not a team the Warriors would probably prefer for a first round matchup…
You could make that case for any playoff team in the West.
Yeah, except no other team in the West has last year’s MVP, who when healthy is one of the top three best players in the NBA. Don’t sleep on OKC. It’s pretty amazing they’ve come all the way back and are now tied for the 8 seed after being in the hole they were in…
I loved the moves OKC made… got an offensive-minded center who can post up (they had no one who would do that consistently). They received to great shooters in Novak and Singler. They received a shooting PG in Augustin, who complements Waiters’ game.
Waiters is really the wildcard, perhaps unfortunately for them, in making the 2nd unit work.
Westbrook is on fire.
OKC can do it, but I think the odds against any Western team winning three series on the road are slim. Somebody in the West with home court advantage should knock them off.
Besides, they lost Kendrick Perkins. And they gave up Reggie Jackson and put their trust in Dion’s hands.
I agree with Mallory and say the Bucks were the big winners. Miami was a close second, although the Bosh thing pretty much renders it neutral…
@Arch – Well then I was completely wrong last night. Hah.
But isn’t timing everything? While the Bull’s schedule, in terms of pure numbers, is easier, isn’t there something to be said about surging/flailing teams?
Mallory, he referenced some sort of analytic system which calculates these rankings. So I’m sure that would come into play.
You can listen to it here: @ESPNCleveland: Audio: #HeyWindy – @WindhorstESPN talks about the trade deadline and how #Miami’s moves affect the #Cavs. http://t.co/w7h9EFBW8c
Cause the Bulls really looked like they were flailing when they kicked the Cavs butts before the ASG.
Cavs didn’t really try in that game. They were clearly checked out for the ASB…
Plus Kevin Love didn’t play.
I think that’s a mischaracterization of the game. Really it was pretty even besides LBJ turning the ball over too much. The Cavs were able to keep it a game without LBJ or Love in the game for the most part.
Bulls have easiest schedule in the East, according to Windy.
According to Windy… there’s no chance LeBron goes back to Cleveland… oh wait…
According to Windy, Cavs have second most difficult schedule in the second half. Not sure if that’s in the East or entire league?
Great podcast guys. Fascinatingly, so much stuff happened but nothing that really affects the Cavs. Ah the NBA, everything is much ado about nothing.
@RealGM: Chris Bosh Has Blood Clot In One Lung (via @JaredZwerling) — http://t.co/EZLsCETIzL
As much as I hate Miami that sucks.
Especially on the heels of Jerome Kersey reportedly dying of the same thing at age 52. Blood clots are scary and can be career enders for athletes. Hoping that’s not the case for Bosh. I dislike Miami, but not enough to wish that on anyone…
Yep. I was kind of looking forward to maybe meeting them in the playoffs. Hope he recovers quickly
Love the quote Nate – (paraphrasing) “There are two types of people in this world. Those who hate Matthew Dellavadova and those that understand basketball.”
You have to give Nate credit for saying that Delly has been below-average this year though. He’s right about this, but he’s also right that Delly plays the game the right way despite his lack of talent.
I always thought that there are three types of people in the world:
Those that can count.
And those that can’t.
A third type of a person is one who loves Delly but is realistic about his various limitations as a basketball player.
I haven’t listened yet, so I’m not sure if it was mentioned but Bosh may have a blood clot in his lungs and may be out for the year. If so, that’s a huge blow to Miami.
Get ready for super candid Mallory, guys.
