This is kind of a random question, Tom, but what’s the deal with the Dayton Skyline on the soundcloud link? Native Daytonian Cavs Fan in Richmond, VA here… Love the DYT getting run on this blog!
Nevermind, just noticed your “From the 9-3-7” comment…. Dayton is such a great Basketball city (however I’m partial to my alumnus ties down in Cincy… GO XU!)
The Sixers are the NBA’s bank haha. It seems like they trade away every good player they get. How do you give up on Carter Williams so early after winning ROTY?? It blows my mind. Being a Cleveland fan isn’t great by any means, but I really feel for the Sixers faithful
That Pablo Torres article is looking a lot more unintentionally humorous than it was 24 hours ago, is all I can say. The article talks about how the Sixers intentionally go after long, athletic guys who can’t shoot because they represent the most upside potential and draft value, the idea being it is a lot easier to teach a guy to shoot than to teach him to be long and athletic. We then get a lecture that these kinds of guys obviously take time to develop but the Sixers have the infrastructure and the long term plan to get them… Read more »
Oy. This Sheridan piece was nuts. http://www.sheridanhoops.com/2015/02/19/sheridan-analyzing-thursdays-trade-deadline-deals-sixers-win/
“By the latter half of this decade when those picks are being conveyed, nobody will be touching the Sixers. Mark my words.” What?
I recently went to an executive training seminar where I was told that the secret to success was to master the “Three C’s”. Once I learned to apply the Three C’s to every aspect of my life, I would enjoy nothing but success. It was then revealed to me that the Three C’s were 1) Calm down and assess the situation, 2) Conquer whatever obstacle was before me, and 3) Challenge myself anew. OH, what genius! All I have to do is conquer every situation, and I will conquer every situation! Why didn’t this occur to me earlier? So I… Read more »
The Sixers are going to suck unless they can draft or sign a FA superstar. Right now they have nothing except the promise of Embiid.
The Lakers will be good before they are.
Yeah – I kept thinking the same thing.
Tom, I just listened to your segment with Mark Neal and was like “oh crap, I totally just repeated Tom’s points about the Sixers trade in the comments section”. Coincidental, I swear!
Haha. Its what they say they so. But they let iguodala walk too.
I don’t know if OKC got so much better as much as the Suns got worse… which should help OKC make the 8 spot…
Okc got much better. Heat got better. Cavs are still better than everyone in the east. Perkins would be a great addition as a 5 minute big man or when mozzie gets in foul trouble.
Yeah, given the Hawks, Bulls and Cavs all stood pat nothing happened for the Cavs to worry about. I guess if I’m the Wiz I am worried, and the Pacers might have to think about tanking instead of trying to get PG13 back for the playoffs.
I think Razor Ramon is an upgrade for the Wiz, if a small one.
I’m definitely bullish on Perkins for this team, but the real question is, if he goes to the Clips or Bulls, what are our other options out there for big men?
If we can’t score a buyout FA in the next ten days, is there somebody in China? The D-League? The WNBA?
He’s a solid backup. In Kyrie’s first season the Cavs bench held its own with him at the helm.
I don’t get it either. I think most people think Kanter is going to want more money than he is worth after the season is over, or else he’ll go back to Turkey.
Another issue: he may not be as good as his numbers. Check this out.
Add that to Dion Waiters who is posting a mind numbing -5.50 RPM (ranked 450th in nba), and the Thunder might not be coming out ahead.
do you think OKC will let the guys walk? i know it sounds like an implosion. however, it would clear mega money to get a big 3 back in okc. i still think they should have kept harden and looked to sign aging stars for minimums for the chance to run for 3-4 years with their 3 plus ibaka on a reasonable salary all things considered
For what it’s worth, rumors here are that the Lakers are going to make an insane push for Westbrook in his UFA summer (I think it’s 2017). People inside the Lakers organization on local sports talk have spoken to this. Even Kobe has said that Russ is the player most like him in the NBA right now.
I used to live in LA. Local sports talk + fans + organization post Dr. Buss = giant sticky ball of uninformed delusion. Your IQ goes down 1 point by each hour you listen to these people, which probably explains why most of them are in the negative zone at this point. Yes, if they can get a solid free agent and keep and hit on their lottery pick this offseason, Randle blossoms into an All-Star, Love opts in for one more year with the Cavs and then signs with the Lakers in 2016, and that team is a 50-game… Read more »
Are you implying my IQ is dropping at an alarming rate, Mac? ;)
I actually work with a guy who is very friendly with Mitch. He’s made it clear this is the plan as well. Granted, the crazy Buss offspring have the final say, and who knows if Mitch is even with the team at that point, but still a bit more fire than smoke…
Not at all EG, but I also know that you take the chatter with a grain of salt . . . listening to Mychal Thompson is like getting a temporary lobotomy.
I am sure it is the plan, and good luck to them. But listening to Jeanie Buss, Ramona Shelburne and random Lakers fan #34 ramble about the Lakers will get back on top because that is what they do (a completely tautological argument btw) doesn’t keep me up at night as a Cavs fan. “Lakers fans demand championships!” Yeah, or what you’re not going to fly your crappy little Lakers plastic flags out of your ’95 Chevy Tahoe?
Oh totally. There’s nobody worse to listen to than Klay’s dad. He is the quintessential Lakers homer. And while I think it’s all wishful thinking on the Lakers’ part, I do think that it’s also possible since that team in OKC seems like it will fracture eventually. Neither KD nor RW seem like guys that are going to be all that loyal when the cap explodes. As you know from your time here, Laker fans are myopic at best. Other than the Dodgers, the Lakers are the biggest thing in town and everyone from the owners on down to the… Read more »
I actually do think the Lakers will be good again eventually. They just have too much going for them in terms of market, brand, lifestyle etc. etc. And I hope they get Westbrook. The more talent gets diffused around this league during the years LeBron has left, the happier I am. I hope Durant goes to Orlando, Harden to the Nets, Steph Curry to the Jazz and Anthony Davis stays right where he is.
How did OKC get Kanter for so little?!
