Live Thread: Cavs vs. Hawks (#DunkTheVote)
2016-11-08It’s Election Day Cavs fans! And, despite the funny (but sadly true) commentary from Key & Peele (circa 2012), it’s still an important day in our country’s history. Hopefully, you got out and dunked the vote already, so now you’ve got time for the second most important event happening tonight as Cleveland stumps for a victory in their home swing state against the Hawks to keep their winning streak alive.
LeBron and his delegation have run a pretty stellar campaign thus far in this young season, winning their first six straight in their bid to repeat for a second term as champs. The Hawks, meanwhile, have assembled some new faces to run against the team that knocked them out of the race by a landslide in each of the last two seasons. Gone are incumbents Jeff Teague and Al Horford, and in their stead… new candidate Denis “The Umlaut” Schröder and hometown favorite Dwight Howard. D12 has had a popular return thus far, averaging 17 points and 12.3 rebounds per game, while running mate Paul Millsap has been steady in leading the team in scoring (17.8 ppg).
While LBJ (The King, not the former President), has made it well known who he’s endorsing politically off the court… on it, he’s still the biggest supporter of his future MVP teammate, Kyrie Irving. Uncle Drew had a tough stop on his trip to the City of Brotherly Love, he’ll look to rally and turn things around tonight. Speaking of tough Love, Kevin has been pretty effective and resilient early on this season, taking shots and dishing out double doubles.
Probable Hawks lineup: Paul Millsap PF, Kent Bazemore SF, Dwight Howard C, Denis Schröder PG, Thabo Sefalosha SG.
Probable Cavs lineup: Kevin Love PF, LeBron James SF, Tristan Thompson C, Kyrie Irving PG, JR Smith SG.
Catch all the action (in between election results) on NBATV (but make sure you vote first!)
Prediction: Once again, Cavs get to the polls early with the popular vote, then withstand a late rally by the Hawks to gain enough electoral votes to claim victory in a closer race than expected… 116-112.
GO CAVS! GO DUNK THE VOTE!
Got to keep the energy up. I guess LBJ will get some minutes in the bench now so let’s hope Kyrie and the rest of the Cavs can keep it going.
I AM STILL CONFUSED/ PERPLEXED / FRUSTRATED ON NO SIGHTING OF ‘”BIRDMAN ” — HE DESERVES AT LEAST A 5 MINUTE RUN / GAME
That bad last play aside… GREAT closeout to the quarter by Cavs!
He Shumped him! In he worst way.
Why Shump?
And what a bonehead play by Shump…
WHAT A HORRIBLE CALL!
JR! FINALLY!!
Good pass JR…
https://vine.co/v/5jDAliF9pKx
Oh this refs.
Borderline call… maybe they thought Dunleavy’s heels were in the restricted area?
The Cavs need someone to get hot from the outside quick.
LBJ just taking over now… 14 points and 3 boards this quarter…
LeBron looks weird tonight. Playing great but exasperated…like wtf with this shooting haha
Yikes 6-29 from three…
Yet Cavs only down 6…
That play would have been an all-time highlight…
Stop fouling please
Cavs need a couple 3’s from JR or Frye
Channing Frye should either operate beyond the arc or in the post. Why he continues to put the ball on the floor and drive is a mystery.
That kyrie block was so sick!!!
KYRIE SAYS “bekommen, dass schwache Sachen hier raus!” to the Umlaut!
Translation… “GET THAT WEAK STUFF OUTTA HERE!”

Oh yeah that’s what we were missing. 15-20 points from lebron
LBJ drives right! He drives left!
CHANNING!
LeBron getting fouled with no calls…
Should have been a CDB for Bron… but refs call phantom foul…
If the Cavs can get the lead down to 6 or 8 heading into the 4th quarter maybe they can pull it off.
LBJ for THREE! And Cavs are back down only 10…
https://vine.co/v/5jDzdLlDh5q
That was an awesome sequence! KLove on the floor grabbing a loose ball, ahead to Kyrie for the great pass to LBJ for the and one! That play should help change the momentum…

Finally some defense from the Cavs.
Definitely need more of that.
Well I expected a good one tonight but wasn’t expecting this at all.
Nobody wants to get in front of Schroder…
Hawks doing what the Cavs usually want to do… run out for easy buckets…
NO PANIC BUTTON COLS —JUST WONDERING
JUST GOT HOME FROM B.B. PRACTICE—CAVS DOWN BY 11—-LEBRON WITH ONLY 2 PTS ???/
Yeah, he just scored his first bucket with about 2:30 left in the half… chill mode. Main reason Cavs are down is that they are 4-21 from downtown and Dwight has decided to turn back the clock to 2009 on the glass… They’ll be fine if they can get some shots to go down…
They are looking forward to meeting the president and worried about the election. It’s tough for them. They will probably still win though.
I wonder if anyone is going to press the panic!!!! button
You’re panicking about the prospect of people panicking
No reason for panic, but they do seem to be giving up a lot of 30+ quarters lately…
Yeah, so many that they are 6-0 and have won 9 straight dating back to the Finals.
Nothing but bricked threes at the moment…
So … How is this early season team different than Blatt’s early season teams? Not seeing much difference…
Cavs woeful from three so far…

Cavs letting Dwight turn back the clock… Also not pushing the ball…
I think they are looking forward to meeting with Obama and also are worried about the current election.
Umlaut mouths off after Kyrie gets floored by Dwight on a pick an the Cavs advance on Schroder like a street gang…
LOL Kyrie with the Plinko bucket
https://vine.co/v/5jpUv6M7Orp
Kyrie with the elastic rim…
Great steal and breakaway to follow up!
https://vine.co/v/5jpUK6Lgdlp
SHUMP for three!
He’s shooting well this year. Gee, I wonder who predicted that? And I wonder who wanted to trade him?
All hail Cols! Our good luck charm and resident optimist
https://vine.co/v/5jpFQQwtizF
Love and TT fighting for rebounds and loose balls… good to see
https://twitter.com/NBA/status/796151386358415360
Cavs are bored. I don’t blame them. It’s tough being the best team in the NBA for two straight seasons.
Cavs running with the “no-star” lineup…
Big three should never be sitting. Get Kev in there
They’re playing some solid D tho… and there’s been some good Shump/Frye pnr…
Both teams shooting under 40%
Low scoring first quarter… Lots of missed shots and miscues…
I think both of these teams are still at the polls
Dunleavy not in sync so far…
LBJ having a hard time finishing so far tonight…
Atlanta has a nice athletic team.
Shump throwing the ball away…
Kyrie with the Eurostep!

Everyone must be out voting still… or watching results…
The Umlaut for three… again… Ben must be so proud…
Hawks bench leaves something to be desired…
LBJ to KLove… TOUCHDOWN!
KEVIN LOVE!
https://vine.co/v/5jpwqOZTEDT
Mike Muscala might have just died on that putback dunk…
FYI: I wrote in EG for president.
I also voted to legalize pot. Those two things could be related.
What about condoms for porn stars? Only in California…
Thanks JoeyB! I bet I get more votes than Gary Johnson…
Cavs ice cold…
I don’t think that Love shot would have gone in, but thanks anyway Dwight!
