Live Thread: Cavs @ Kings (#TuneUp)
2017-01-13Life on the road isn’t always a smooth ride. Sometimes you need to take a pit stop for a quick tune up… especially after a fairly brutal back-to-back trip through some inclement weather. Even though they picked up a brand new part heading into this long journey into the west, the Cavs are still trying to find the time to integrate him properly. A general lack of test driving in practice has been dogging the team, dating back to when they were missing several key players due to injury and illness before embarking on this current six game tour. They did finally get a day yesterday to run some diagnostics, change the oil and rotate their proverbial tires before tonight’s stop in Sacramento to take on the Kings.
Ty Lue has decided to make some adjustments on the fly, installing Iman Shumpert in the starting rotation, replacing DeAndre Liggins who’s been the starter since J.R. Smith went down on December 21st. When asked about the shift when addressing the media today, Coach had this to say…
“I just wanted to do it.”
Though I’m not sure I completely agree with the rationale… or the move, Lue followed up by saying that he thinks Shump has maybe been trying to do too much with the second unit when he comes in, and might be more comfortable with the starters. You never know, it might also be an opportunity to showcase Shump if he’s part of David Griffin’s plan to bring in another playmaker soon. Lue also indicated that he was looking for ways to get Kyle Korver more time with the Big Three on the floor, and that he flirted with the idea of starting the newest addition as well… so, we’ll see how that plays out in the new Golden1 Arena.
While this game should provide the Cavs with one last opportunity for a well needed tune up before they pull into the Bay Area for their drag race with the Warriors, the one guy who might throw a monkey wrench into their plans could be DeMarcus Cousins. Boogie has been the engine that has propelled the Kings into the race for the eighth playoff seed in the Western Conference. The big man is averaging 28 points and over 10 rebounds per game this season, which will likely earn him a spot on this year’s All Star team. He’s also had help from Rudy Gay, Darren Collison and a resurgent Ty Lawson off the bench. Probably the biggest difference for this model of the Kings though has been the steady leadership of new head coach Dave Joerger.
Probable starting lineup for the Cavs:Â LeBron James, Kevin Love, Tristan Thompson, Iman Shumpert, Kyrie Irving. And, for the Kings:Â Rudy Gay, Anthony Tolliver, DeMarcus Cousins, Garrett Temple, Darren Collison.
Prediction: Cavs finally get their engine revving and hit on nearly all cylinders from downtown to race past the Kings 125-112.
Stay up late and catch all of the action on Fox Sports Ohio starting at 10:30pm EST (7:30 for you west coasters like me).
Really like Kyrie’s passing tonight.
I almost posted that exact thing.
LOL
Wooweee pretty ball.
TWOZUS!
Good to see the offense finally working again. Korver showing why he is one of the greatest shooters of all time.
Cavs with an instant run!
Mercy….the Kings need some good players…
If they had a GM that could identify talent, they could trade Cousins for a bounty and rebuild the right way. They’re going to waste his whole career. No FA wants in on that dumpster fire, and Cousins is not a superstar leader. He needs a strong voice in the locker room.
Need to trade him to Celtics for all their assets. And I do mean all. Ainge will never fall for it, though…
Korver is going to matter big time. Imagine this current lineup but with smith instead of liggins. Deadly
I still like Lig too tho…
Ha me too I think we keep and develop him. He’s almost a stopper already
ALLEY OOOOOP!
The two teams have combined for 30 3pt attempts in 18 minutes. The league has changed.
Korver!

You can almost always count on Boogie taking a bad three at the most opportune time…
Time to bring KLove back
James is correct, PG + C is the list. May have to wait to get them.
Not according to Griff…
Grif yes on the PG and no on the C. Openly disagreed with LeBron
Cavs not done making moves says the Wizard.
That time out was 60 seconds too late.
21 to 14. Make it 12.

I don’t wish to alarm you all, but Kelly Olynk had 26 points on 11 shots tonight. Armageddon is nigh.
Sacramento Kings
@SacramentoKings
@cavs remember when it was tied at the start of the game? Good times
Sacramento Twitter having a nice time.
Not a smart shot there, Lebron….
I fear for Casspi getting dunked on later in the game as payback.
That was an awkward possession by LBJ…
KORVER! No longer a Virgin.
Liggins is borderline elite at charge drawing without flopping
Well said!

I respect that Afflalo didn’t fall down after taking that three…
Methinks we’ll get some Felder tonight.
Two turnovers with Lig at the “backup PG” position… main drawback of starting Shump IMHO…
Wow, 12 turnovers for the Kings so far.
Boogie looks turrible in this game…
Much more physical tonight on defense tonight. This of course is what we must do on Monday.
Like what I’m seeing from Korver. The gravity is there, and the shot will come.
LIG! I love his ability to draw charges…
Do you guys remember when Ty Lawson used to play in the NBA?
He’s actually been decent this year… not in this game, but recently…
Canning Frye…
Liked the play for Korver there, even though it didn’t go in.
Damn KK… gotta nail those when Bron hits you with em…
Thank you, Kings, for sucking so bad. We needed a break.

Delay of game on Koufos for head butting the ball after scoring it…
Love already has 11 points and 7 boards…

Kings playing pretty bad this quarter…
Playing like the team that opposes the Harlem Globetrotters.
Pretty much. Even the Generals would be ashamed of that quarter.
Nice to see KLove has overcome the sea bass slump. And is that really Shump hitting so many threes?
SHUMP
I bet that tech gets rescinded…
https://vine.co/v/53e05Ear79P
How can Draymond do what he goes running down the court to complain, and not get teed up, but James gets an T for arguing a legit goaltending
Because Dray does it on literally every play…
Are Lebron’s shoes the same shade of baby blue as the Kings’ uniforms? On purpose?
Not suggesting he’s headed to the Kings next year. :)
Wearing the original LeBrons that he wore in his first game of his career here…
LBJ gets T’d up after arguing a clear goaltending call that wasn’t called…
Shump leaving corner wide open… but gets it back on other end…
Whether or not they should, the Kings are paying more attention to Shumpert on offense than teams were doing for Liggins latel.
I did go to a game here during Lebron1.0. The arena was electric. I mean, Lebron coming to town is a real event, as I’m sure it is tonight for the Sacto fans.
Kevin love could have another 20 point quarter in him
This is why Boogie’s teams don’t win… bad decisions…
Oy Kyrie…
We may have to play Love against boogie some. That’s…gonna stink
KLove going apeshit early on.
KLove active early…
Drive to the hoop was nice!
I thought about getting tickets to the game tonight, but the uncertainty about which Cavs team would show up (or even who would play) scared me off.
Plus it’s Friday the 13th…
And probably the most expensive tickets at Golden One this year.
Tristandeckaphobia… I fear for TT tonight against the Boogieman…
So…how many seasons before Delly brings his talents back home?
To Australia?
I think he ends up in cleveland on his next contract

On the Kings’ pregame show, they just imitated the Cavs by doing the water bottle challenge. Also, Doug Christie appeared to be nearly two feet taller than his co-pregame show announcer, which was quite jarring to see.

MIGHT BE A SLOW NIGHT AT CTB –AS I HAVE JUST FINISHED 2 VERY LONG / TIRING DAYS WORKING THE BOAT SHOW AT THE IX CENTER —-NO I DIDN’T PURCHASE A BOAT BUT DID ENJOY ” THE EYE CANDY ” THEY HAVE PARADING AROUND —-GOOD NIGHT GUYS —GO CAVS !!!
You’re the best, NOMAD…
It’d be nice if Shump used this start as an opportunity not to stink.
I’m going to bed. Goodnight EG
It’s only 8pm where you are, right?
https://twitter.com/CavalyticsNBA/status/820100791834787840
Looks like Delly has officially lost his starting spot to a 2nd round rookie. We really dodged a bullet on that contract.
Delly wins tho, since you’re still paying attention to him…
I think he’s trolling me.
Why do you care about Dan Gilbert’s money?
