Live Thread: Cavs @ Knicks
2017-02-04The Cavs are in the Madison Square Garden to take on the Knicks tonight in an NBA Saturday night national game. The King and friends will be looking to build off a solid 28 point win against the Timberwovles on Wednesday. 37 of their 48 made baskets were assisted on. The team moved the ball and looked like they enjoyed playing with one another for the first time in nearly a month.
In January, the Cavs went less than .500. They were just 2-5 on the road. Tonight kicks off a four game road trip and Cleveland should be looking to rebound. The Knicks are 4-6 in their last ten. They are facing some turmoil with Carmelo Anthony being on the trading block. Derrick Rose is also out for his fourth straight game. The Cavs are without J.R. Smith, who is still recovering from thumb surgery.
Thing To Watch
1. The Cavs need to remember that passing the ball is how they can really build a lead. Against the Wolves, they trusted the pass and things worked out. They didn’t build a huge lead until the third, but they didn’t resort to iso ball at any point.
2.They need to keep playing defense all night. This game is going to set the tone for their whole road trip.
3.Carmelo is angling for a trade, maybe even to Cleveland. Expect him to try and show the Cavalier brass why he’s worth bringing to the team. Kristaps Porzingis probably thought with Derrick Rose out he’d have a little bit of chance to show how effective he is in clutch time situations, that’s not happening tonight.
4.Porzingis is still a beast though and with Kevin Love out, Tristan Thompson is going to have to do his best to prevent him from getting easy put-back dunks, and from protecting the rim by being a pain to box out at all times.
The Cavs should pick up a win tonight, but I’m more interested in seeing if they do it with offense or defense. Cleveland 124-100.
*Kyrie Irving will miss the game because of right quad soreness. LeBron is on his own.
*Kevin Love is playing tonight. I misread the reports.
Important safety tip for Threezus… Don’t drive into the paint on the Unicorn…
If nothing else, to protect his psyche. That was painful to watch.
Bron might speak up for his friend Melo… but that charge he just took was mean…
Well… so far I’d much rather have Love than Melo…
KSHRIMP WITH THE STEAL!

LOL Nicely illustrated!!
Kay Felder. Playmaker.
Felder!!
Frye on em! Ball movement beauty
Man! That was pretty Bron!
I’ll take that: up 9. Liggs & Felder doing just fine. More good passing for Frye -3!
KShrimp pullup!
Meanwhile… in another universe… St. Weirdo is 6-7 and 4-4 from three tonight…
He was player of the week last week, I think. This will = 10 wins in a row for the Heat. They look like #8 right now to me. Milwuakee is getting Middleton back, maybe them.
Now 5-5…
I thought that Lebron’s comments about being top heavy and needing play makers were pretty harsh and would lead to poor bench play, but the opposite seems to be happening, based on these last two games. Second unit sans Lebron has been holding its own.

I still doubt that a PG playmaker is more of a need than a defensive big.
KLove 10/8 in the first. Welcome back for sure.
Cavs have the same amount of O boards and are winning the rebounding battle 14-11…
KLove with 4. Those Knick tip-ins just bugged me, but we are not getting killed.
WELCOME BACK KEV !!

This second unit closed the quarter strong !
KLove! Working the O glass!
KSHRIMP steals the rebound from Kylo!
Good couple of sequences there for Felder
RJ with a hit from deep! Felder doing just fine.
KShrimp dishing the dimes tonight! I like it
There was a disturbance in the Force on that last Kylo FT…
We are still stinking on the glass.
Getting killed on the O boards
Kay to Love! Sounds like a jewelry commercial…
Kylo Quinn just walked and interfered with the ball on the rim… no call on either… #ImWithTheForceTheForceIsWithMe
Our lack of a PF/C type is putting RJ at a severe size disadvantage. Hope these FTs get Love going.
Frye usually misses if he has to dribble before taking a three…
Good D Kev
We’ve missed a lot of wide open looks from deep (Frye, Shump, Love, Liggs, everyone).
Good D there by Korver on Lee…
Is Kyrie’s quad serious? What happened?
Good closeout there by Korver
Forcing Lee to go long 2
CFRYE!
Frye on em!

James with 5 dimes already. With Irving out, LeBron probably has to get 13-15 tonight
Aside from the 2 fouls, Liggs was good in that first stint.
Beautiful movement on that possession… just too many blocked shots at the rim…
Uh oh… it’s Kylo Quinn…
Great passing & our whole team denied inside (OK, TT & Love).
Two on Zinger. Had to call it.

LIG again with the move and great finish!
Nice moves by Ligs!
That was a nice pass from Lig to Shump…
Shump a little excited on a triple. James heat check triple. Liggins to the hoop.
LeBron lapped his hands together, he knows he got it going tonight
Another LBJ triple!
Liggs with a move & 2. James 2-2 from deep.
LIG! Washer dryer combo!
That left wing three is the best three shot for LBJ…
There’s a D rebound for you Jason…
Melo not going to get traded with a bad shoulder…
Same contact on Love that Love had on Zinger… one’s a foul… one’s not
We are o-fer the d-glass so far. 0-3.
Welcome back KLove!

Wonder if Irving’s quad flared up the last game as of course he sat out the entire 4th quarter.
Remember when Pebbles used to bag on Cleveland… don’t hear much from that guy these days…

Cavs about to do four games in six nights… would love to see bench step up, and Lue give them the time and opportunity to do so…
Breen, MJack and JVG calling the game… #AtLeastItsNotHubie
Hubie > MJackson. At least he could coach.
Disagree… Hubie is terrible and should have retired years ago…
Yay, 2 plus hours of Melo trade talk inc!!
There is no way we are trading Love or TT for Melo. Even if he scores 50. If he wants to come here, agree to a buyout. That’s the only way it happens.
Are you in the front office?
Not saying I want Melo or anything, but you never say never…
A Shump and Lig starting back court should be able to get the Cavs off to a decent defensive start… Expect Melo to come out and make his case for being traded to Cavs…
I’m OK with Liggs starting. Korver would have been OK. Felder would have meant no PG on the pine.
Lig is starting for Kyrie…
Like it
Love starting. Kyrie (quad tightness) & Rose out. With Shump at SG, who starts for Kyrie?
1. Felder (like for like)
2. Liggins (he’s done it already)
3. Korver (let Shump, err, James, play PG).
Golly, a guy on a 10-day who is a PG would indeed help tonight, yes?
