Live Thread: Trade Deadline Madness

There’s already been plenty of action and rumors of blockbuster trades leading up to the NBA’s annual trade deadline… which ends at 3pm EST today. While it’s hard to imagine a move that will eclipse Sunday’s Boogie-mageddon, there are still several marquee targets (PG-13, Jimmy Butler, Andre Drummond) and a host of complementary ones (Aaron Afflalo, Taj Gibson, Jahlil Okafor, PJ Tucker) being reportedly made available. Even the Cavs are in the rumor mix with several teams asking about the availability of Iman Shumpert, and reports of them making runs at PGs like Deron Williams and Shelvin Mack. They also had Larry Sanders in for a workout yesterday, but likely would hold off until after the deadline has passed (and maybe the buyout week that follows) to see if any other big men shake loose (Andrew Bogut anyone?). A Taj/Stephen Adams front line and McDermott shooting off the bench makes OKC more interesting in the playoffs… doesn’t get them very deep in the postseason, but probably gives them a better shot to get closer to 4-5-6 seed and make it to second round…

Some shooting for Russ & another guy who can’t shoot for Chicago’s coach who likes to spread the floor. Andre is a good player, not sure on the fit there. Chicago’s FO/ownership/coach are signing different tunes. Rondo + Wade + Jimmy + Taj + Lopez = worst shooting team in league. So you take away McDermott & add a guy who can’t shoot.

The Celtics should absolutely trade for George. If they won’t because they are holding onto the 2017 Nets pick they are even dumber than I thought.

That being said, barring injury NBA Champion Cleveland is still the better team.

The C’s have to trade at least one of the Nets picks. They have IT & the top guys are PGs. They could wait & move down (for a premium). If they can get a SF who can really play (George, Jimmy) you have to do it. They have a ton of filler guys (Crowder, Smart, etc).

Sometimes I doubt these players intentions. They all say, winning is priority but then their actions say something else. If Paul George wants to win, he should go to Celts or be loyal to franchise that supported him and groomed him. Him wanting to go Lakers has nothing to do with winning. Same with Melo, if he wanted to win he would have chosen Chicago that time or any team but NY.

Whatever. Teams are not loyal to their stars all the time. Case in point, that arrogant team in Oakland. Remember their dumb slogan “strength in numbers”? They said they were all about team. It turned out to be complete BS. The minute that smug team lost, they cut their long-term franchise guys and went crying and begging for the guy who choked away games six and seven to them in Durant.

What a horrible franchise that is.

Both. The Cavs built their team like every other team is built. Trades, draft, and FA. The difference is the Cavs don’t pretend to be anything more than that. Unlike some arrogant team that thought they were light years ahead and had a smug slogan of strength in numbers and pretended to be all about team. The moment they got demolished by the Cavs they threw all that away. So funny that frontrunningfraud fans don’t get this stuff. Maybe because they’ve only been NBA fans for about 2 years.

I don’t know enough about P. George but according to everything I’ve ever read regarding Melo, he has ALWAYS been about the money. No new spots on a Leopard.

I guess at the end of the day, 10, 15, 20 million dollars make a big difference in people’s perspective about playing a sport for a living.
