Preseason Live Thread: Cavs vs Bulls

Well, we get our full compliment of Cavs tonight, as they host the Bulls for a regular season tuneup game. Tonight and the regular season’s probably starting lineup: Rose, Wade, James, Crowder, and Love will take the floor at tipoff and according to ESPN‘s Dave McMenamin, Iman Shumpert will start the season (and this game!) as the team’s first sub when Derrick Rose goes to the bench in the first quarter. McMenamin also reported that Jefferson, Frye, Zizic, Osman, and Calderon will start the season “out of the rotation.” It doesn’t bode well for Osman and Jefferson, the two most likely players to be cut (or possibly traded, in RJ’s case), to get the roster down to 15 players. It’s as if the Cavs are actively trolling us here at CtB. Or maybe we’ve been practicing reverse psychology all along.
For the Bulls, they’ll be without Chris Dunn, who dislocated his finger and will be out 2-4 weeks. Starters look like Jerian Grant, Justin Holiday, Paul Zipser, Nikola Mirotic, and Robin Lopez. The Bulls are also missing Cameron Payne (right foot surgery), and Zach LaVine.
Look for the Cavs to give us glimpses at their regular season sets, and how the offense will work, and if spacing will be a problem (though this Bulls’ team shouldn’t be much of a challenge).
Anyone want to assign some grades? I caught part of the game on the radio, and JR, Rose, and Green sounded pretty good.
Was thinking about it. If dRose works out fantastically, and they look to trade IT, the Jazz would be a perfect spot. They desperately need scoring and would have the defense to make up for his lack thereof.
Who would you try to get in return?

Any of dante exum, rodney hood, Joe Ingles along with Alec Burks to get offense and defense off bench.

I get what the article is saying, but most of the vets weren’t signed to be heavy usage players. The core players that should see the highest usage (IT, Love, LBJ) are all in their athletic prime (well maybe not LBJ but he’s still statistically at least one of the 3 best players in the league). Heavy minutes will also be used by two of the league’s best role players in Crowder and TT, who are just entering their prime. The only real worry I have as far as age is DWade. Not a fan of Rose’s color commentary/analysis. What happened to Greg Anthony. He is the best. Used to love when he and Tim Legler were the main espn analysts.

It will take time, for sure, but so far offense looks very static and easy to defend. Love will get a zillion rebounds at this point, but is going to have trouble against big centers.

It seems like LeBron, Wade, and Rose all want to collapse towards the basket at the same time. No one flaring to the wing.
Already seeing the effects of JR being out. LeBron passed up rose on the wing on the break. He’d have snapped that to JR before. spacing looks like an issue.
