Live Thread: Cavs vs. Spurs
2018-02-25The Cavs took on San Antonio approximately one month ago and got Spurred pretty hard. I know, I know… the Sunday afternoon puns. Anyway, the Cavs barely had an answer for LaMarcus Aldridge, Kyle Anderson, Davis Bertans, Dejounte Murray as they collected 13 offensive rebounds and profited from the Cavaliers’ 19 turnovers. As we know, though, this isn’t the same Cavs team.
Key to this game will be controlling the Spurs on the boards, defending them inside, and stopping their key shooters (Bertans and Green). The Spurs are 3-7 in their last 10 games, and it’s reported that Kawhi Leonard may be out for the season as his strange injury lingers. They’ll also be without Manu Ginobili who’s out with a bruised sternum.
For my money, the Cavs will be fine if they limit the turnovers, defend, and don’t do dumb things on offense. I’d agree with Mike Schreiner’s assessment that Jordan Clarkson was a little shot happy and that the Cavs’ needed to work the offense a little more against the Grizzlies, especially when it came to getting Kyle Korver shots. Clarkson can get any shot he wants, but he tends to go 90 miles per hour and not use his speed as a change of pace in the half court. He also can be a black hole at times, and gets tunnel vision when there are guys open. You have to play on the edge to be a good offensive player, but if Clarkson can take 5 MPH off his fastball a-lá Sandy Koufax and play with just a little more control, he could be great offensive player, instead of just good.
Let’s hope this Cavs team has it in them to be great rather than good for this game and the rest of this season. Go Cavs.
Captain Bandaid!
Lucky Clarkson bounce, they needed that…
Our lack of length is a bit of an issue vs SA.
How’s that not a foul on Gay?
It’s a good thing Hubie is not a ref because he has no idea what the rules are…
Three pointers: LeBron is 2/3, and the rest of the team is 1/16 (and THAT one was Jeff Green)
Brutal from Korver there. 4 pt swing.
Boy that ‘break’ was butt ugly…
2 Cavs at 50% or higher. Bron 11-16 & Green 4-6.
Cedi has to hit those open jump shots. If not the Cavs might need to put Hood in the starting unit.
Sit JR and Cedi and sub Hood and KK in.
Hood misses one as well. Brutal from deep.
Bron keeping us in it.
Still not sure what to think of Hill…He doesn’t seem to do much on defense and it seems like his field goal percentage has dropped to 15% since he became a Cav…
Hopefully just an adjustment period. It’s hard to play PG next to LeBron.
Can’t wait until we get love back.
Thompson can’t stop Aldridge this quarter.
Smith, Hill and Osman 3/19. This starting five can not score consistently
This first unit is gonna struggle to score if JR/Cedi cannot hit from deep & Hill is passive. That is where we are tonight.
Need heavy doses of Nance, Green, Hood, Korver, & Clarkson.
Have to sit JR at this point
Bron needs to be more aggressive. And he was.
Cedi & JR with 2 misses apiece to start. 3 for Cedi.
if jr continues to get so many minutes in 2nd half it’s gonna make it slot more difficult to get this win
Charlotte hammered the Pistons today. That is four in a row. I think they think they can catch Miami. 4 back in L column. Heat 2-8 in last 10.
Tom Pestak and nick bkicking it at lager heads in Medina.
grandkids are over—–outside playing—-what did I miss —–I need BEERS !!!
Smith 1-6. Hill 1-5. Starting backcourt not so hot.
Don’t play jr over 15 min today , it’s not his day
Cavs outshooting Spurs 46% to 35%. Outrebounding them 28-21.
Why only up 3? Cavs 3-14 from deep (21.4%). Spurs 7-16 (43.8%).
Lebron balling today as is nance but no one else really standing out
Jeff Green
TT has been pretty good. 10 boards, 5 offensive. 6 pts on 3/6 with 1 of those being Gasol’s ain’t so hot.
Letting them right back in. Up 9. Foul on a 3. We TO. Another 3. Quick miss. Foul. Miss. 3.
Lead gone.
Bad JR hurting us.
Come on Cavs, win the last 2 min.
And Green nails a corner 3! Don’t mind those after ball movement. Silly JR foul.
JR playing dumb today
Spurs have no answer when lebron drives it’s where they miss Kawhi
If we could hit some 3’s we would be up 20.
That LeBron shot cleared the top of the backboard by an inch or so.

Nice run by cavs….Cedi day is over
Good TT defense on Aldridge. JR nails a 2. Good signs.
J.R. hurting the team
Well we got bad JR tonight.
TT needs that loose ball. Cedi gets no respect from the refs.
TT can’t even get a miss ball.
This is an interesting lineup: Hill, JR, Osman, Bron, Nance.
Come on Cedi, make 2/3.
Solid lineup for cavs now….too bad korver can’t hit shots
We are 1/10 from deep.
Nance is everywhere!
TT is having one of his best games, and he’s still being outshined.
Another bad Bron pass. At least 3.
Ty Lue, sitting on scorer’s table with hand in pocket …….lol. At least appear like you’re doing something
I do like Lue’s decision to pull Bron earlier in the first and then bring him in to start the second with Clarkson, Hood, Korver, & Nance.
Nance again. To James.
I hate it when the refs kill the break after a 24 sec violation. Punishment for good D.
Yeah that was a bummer. Sweet block by 22.
Nance!
Nance did it again. This time Clarkson with a nice finish.
Nance stirring the drink.
Good steal & dish from Nance & Green with the finish.
A play TT never even dreams of making.
22 leading the break x2
Aside from TT & Nance, not thrilled with anyone in that quarter.
Cavs not hitting shots and spurs banking in 3s….lebron didn’t play much in first qtr either
Versus our first unit, D just has to stick to JR, he is the only shooter. At least until Hill snaps out of it. Bron is #2, and you want him settling.
Banked in 3 puts Spurs up 5 at the buzzer.
Jeff has been good with not chucking for the most pary. Last couple games a bit iffy.
Tony Parker is done man
Not able to watch just yet, but 17 points is what I expect from an IT led squad…
Clarkson & Green need better decision making.
Well the Spurs came ready to compete, the Cavs are kind of sleepwalking.
watching this from tomorrowland at disney – must be some kind of joke here
I don’t get why the Cavs play so slow on offense against a great defensive team like the Spurs. Just get into the pick n roll action and attack quick.
TT OK so far.
Why does Bron throw so many silly inbounds passes?
Cedi!
‘SPURRED ” ON BY YOUR POST—–GO CAVS !!!—-LET’S SEE LESS T.T./ MORE –“L-JR-TIGGGER “
I know it’s been only 5 games for the new Cavs but today would be a good test for them.
Let’s Go Cavs!
Nancy Jr wearing #22 today already !!! Like that a lot as does his Dad, one of my favorite Cavs ever.
Glad they made it happen, makes a great story.
Need to add Perkins to deal with Zaza
Zizic seems like he could do it.
Tony Allen.
