Playoff Live Thread: Cavs vs. Pacers, Game 5 (#KeepIt100)
2018-04-25If the Cavaliers want to do Whatever It Takes to win Game 5, to take a commanding lead in this see-saw series with the Indiana Pacers… they really only need to focus on one thing… scoring in the triple digits. As we’ve seen thus far, if all the Cavs had done in the first four games was Keep It 100… the series could already have been over (or at worst featured an overtime game). That’s right, the team that gave up an average of 109.9 points per game during the rocky road of the regular season, has been downright stingy in allowing an average of 96.7 to the Pacers thus far. They only gave up a hundo in Game 4, but it was exactly the century mark and no more.
Unfortunately, the same high-octane offense the Cavs ran in the first 82 games (good for 110.9 ppg), has also gotten tremendously bogged down by the Indy defense and it’s own weirdly plodding pace of play, averaging just 93.5 points per contest. Both victories have 100 in common… even though it’s only been just that or barely more than that. Still, this benchmark is key for the wine & gold. Very simply, if they continue to play defense at the level they’ve achieved in the first quartet of games… they just need to Keep It 100.
To do this, however, they need to keep their energy level, focus and determination also at 100%. That shouldn’t need to mean LeBron James playing all 48 minutes (or 46, or 44 or even 42). It should mean that the Cavs are getting contributions from other guys, as they did on Sunday. George Hill has been ruled 100% out again for this game, so 100 year old Jose Calderon (sorry, jk Jose!) will have to bear the starting PG burden once again. The Cavs should also expect Lance Stephenson to keep his antics at 100… so, perhaps a well-timed Angry Smurf elbow should be in his future (just sayin’).
Per usual, I won’t make an exact prediction… other than to say that I expect the Cavs to Keep It 100, which should be enough to edge the Pacers.
Catch all the action starting at 7pm EST on TNT… and as always chime in here!
Honestly think you put Cedi in with this atmosphere, intensity on D would lift even more.
It’s also how hard he tries to push the ball that makes us hard to play when he is in. He runs the floor every time. Every damn time.
But Lue.
I can’t wait for him to be fired.
Can’t wait to see his blank look when that happens
Yep…he should definitely be getting some of Hill’s minutes
I don’t get it. If he turns the ball over, gets torched or lost on d, or misses every wide open shot they you can always take him out.
Seriously Green? Over the backboard from 35 feet… wow…just wow…
I don’t expect him to make that but over the backboard? Cmon man!
Shut their water off!!
Well that was an inspired 8-0 run to end the quarter!
Mad Lebron is awesome.
WOW great team defense!
It seems to me that playing Lebron at super intensity for 6 minute stretches is better than playing him for 46 minutes.
Give that man a fruggin free throw
LBJ just took over the last few possessions.
LBJ can’t buy a call.
James tried to get his teammates invovled. No dice. Now the Cavs’ offense will consist entirely of LeBron drives.

Well, at least this entire roster isn’t signed for the next two years for over the highest payroll in NBA history.
Refs disrupt the fast break opportunity with the 24 second call… at least it made LeBron angry…
Cavs are toast if they cant make shots and cant get calls going to the rim
I suppose that’s self evident…
Yes but needs to be said regardless.
Man LBJ getting hammered and no calls.
Sadly feels a lot like Game 1… except Bron is a bit more aggressive…
Sasha Pavolic thinks Green is the worst player Lebron’s ever played with.
Clarkson not good early.
So far we’re 0 for wide open threes…
Nance pretty much just pushed the ball there…sabonis fell. Very little actual contact if any.
Aaaand here comes Green. We will not be winning when he checks out again.
Dipo flopping again…. thankfully refs didn’t buy that one.
Remember when the Cavs were a threat from 3? Good times.
It’s truly criminal that Cedi isn’t getting any run.
Pipe is frozen…
ANOTHER GARBAGE FOUL CALL…
Nice elbow to the throat from Lance as Nance set that screen
2 on Dipo for just being dumb
Nice two man game with LBJ and Nance…. NANCE NEEDS MORE MINUTES!!!
Cavs keep switching small guys onto Turner… gonna get burned every time…
Lookout lookout, there’s a Lance about…
LARRY! Reverse Jam!
2 on Dipo.
Nice flop Dipo…
Too much contact for refs to ignore. Dumb closeout
Nobody touched him…

Trying to come up with a Delly Pipe combo word. Cuz its important
Nice jump hook too KLOVE!
JR WITH A DELLY STEAL!!!! LBJ WITH THE FINISH!
Liking the defensive intensity
Is that JR or Delly out there?
Good aggressive bucket by KLove!
TURNER FOULED CALDERON!!! NO CALL???
Ugly offense bad TO by KLOVE.
This feels like a loss.
Shades of Game 1 so far…
JR wide open 3 and misses.
LBJ bad pass in transition…. too aggressive.
JR is just way off…

Is that 2 on Kev?
No, that one was on Korver…
So, maybe Cedi for Jose? To remove the weak link on defense.
It would be a good move. Then bring back Calderon with JC.
At least Korver got his own rebound…

They are focusing on Jose every time down the court
Amazing how often its Thad young getting away with fouls.
Weak foul call…. give me a break!
Lotta missed threes for Cavs… layups and putbacks for Pacers…
Korver misses open transition 3…. good play by JR tho.
Can’t switch Jose onto Thad Young…
Yup.
They’re letting Indy get mismatches on Calderon, and then not giving Jose any help.
Yup… bad strategy. Although Calderon held is own a couple of times… once on Turner and once on Dipo.
Crazy sequence. Calderon tentative on the alley oop pass to LBJ. Then Calderon misses open 3. then LBJ fouled on the drive but missed two open shooters on the perimeter.
Don’t know why Bron didn’t just lay that one up rather than kick it out to Jose…
FANTASTIC HOT POTATO PASSING! KORVER THREEE!!!

Korver hits his first!
LBJ missed that rebound.
LBJ right to the rack! WHERE’S THE FOUL?
Cavs come out with the intensity on defense from the jump.
But then lose a 3-on-1 rebounding battle
Total baseless speculation, but LBJ seems kinda ornery this series. Just haven’t really seen him enjoy himself out there a la 2007 Detroit or Game 5 Finals 2016.
Barkley predicting Cavs’ blowout. I totally agree with Kenny Smith’s point on the star’s final message and I totally disagree with Shaq. LBJ needs to empower, encourage, and give confidence to the “others” not ADD pressure.
Cleveland in the spotlight right now… Cavs playing Game 5 at home on TNT… Tribe playing the Cubs at home on ESPN… the Browns 24 hours from picking first and fourth in the NFL Draft on ESPN…
