The Cavs need a bounce bag win after the drubbing Charlotte handed them and news that the vets think Collin Sexton doesn’t know how to play and that the front office backed out of a handshake deal to trade Kyle Korver if LeBron James left over the summer. Thankfully, the Magic are on a back to back, although they did get the win against the Spurs on Sunday, and are only 3-6 this season.c
The Magic are led by big man Nikola Vucevic who is putting up 18.3 points, grabbing 10.6 boards, and dishing out four assists a night. Their small forward, Aaron Gordan, is getting 15.3 per night from the Power Forward spot and shooting guard Evan Fournier is putting up 15.3. Orlando isn’t stacked but their attack comes from multiple positions with capable individual scorers.
The Cavs are without Kevin Love still, while the Magic will be without Jonathan Isaac, and Timofey Mozgov will be out for the Magic.
Three Things to Watch
1. With the Magic having such a varied attack, the Cavs need to defend at a moderate level from all spots on the floor the entire night. Cutting off one man on this team won’t work. Someone else will just step up. They aren’t amazing offensively, they’re last in the league, but the Cavs have a habit of making awful teams look like All-Stars.
2. Aaron Gordan is an above average defender. However, the rest of the Magic are below average. The Cavs will need Sam Dekker to space the floor to keep Gordan from being able to help the rest of the Magic stop the Cavs attack.
3. If the Cavs vets are going to call out Sexton, they need to show up and lead by example. They cannot be passive. J.R. Smith is shooting just 33.3% this year and getting 4.8 a night. He wants to be traded, so he needs to perform. The Cavs are looking for value if they get rid of him. George Hill needs to put together four solid quarters. He can’t be the most aggressive player and the most passive in a five minute span. And, Larry Drew needs to lean on the vets if this game gets out of hand.

Cedi really looks out of sorts. Needs to calm down. Our offense also really takes what the defense gives it, midrange js. We get run off the line so easily, and then we pickup the dribble before penetrating far enoug.
Just thought the same on Cedi. He looks frustrated. He needs a good coach/vet to take him under his wing.
The defensive coach for opposing teams know that Hood, Clarkson and Sexton would take any semi open mid range given to them. The easiest paycheck earned that week for any cosching member.

Eh. There have been plenty of turnovers to go around. And defensive breakdowns. Not that we have played our worst defense. But we haven’t been good. Orlando is just bad on offense.

Lots of forced shots and wild forays to the hoop. Missed bunnies too, leading to him basically standing under the hoop with the ball. Also they sort of have sold out on him to stop the ball handler this game.
So wait, Hood, Clarkson, and JR are getting minutes, but Korver and Nwaba don’t. I really truly do not get it. They don’t need to lose by 25 to tank. They can lose by 10 but get good shooting guard play that sets examples of professionalism.
Yeah this doesn’t make sense, unless Korver doesn’t want to play.

I honestly can’t watch much longer. Sexton isn’t anywhere near an NBA caliber player and he needs a veteran next to him to show him the way. NOT Jordan Clarkson.

Don’t think so. Sexton is not good at passing. His passes aren’t precise. Handle is shaky. Got a lot of work to do.

Why, why, why, why, why is it still happening? How is it not obvious. Jesus even national writers like Lowe are pointing out what we have seen. No reason Lowe should even pay attention to the cavs or make a note of anything we do. But that particular problem is that glaring. Unsure what the staff is actually doing.

TT and Dekker got abused on a couple of back to back Vuc backscreens to free Gordon for a wing three. Thankfully he only made one. But yeah, we are so so so sloppy on both ends. So many missed assignments.

I can’t tell if our offense or defense is worse. I’m tempted to say defense, but our offense is so bad, I don’t know.
We have no idea what we are doing on either end. So take your pick. So many mistakes. Bad shots. No plan.

Tt can’t make simple passes. Could have hit Cedi in rhythm for an easy layup but waits 2 seconds longer than necessary to allow Cedi’s man and TT’s to help. He can’t even make swing passes or kick out around the perimeter. Anyone ever notice that? He literally is so uncoordinated he can’t make a quick swing pass or simple kick out.
TT trying to do anything other than rebound is the ugliest thing in basketball to watch.

FWIW, does not mean they are wrong. Doing Korver wrong does them no favors.
Oh for sure, none of them like the organization or Gilbert. I don’t love Gilbert either to be honest. But they seem to have a bit of an angle.

They are still likely to find a new coach, my guess Jason Kidd or Mark Jackson (whichever is left if/when Walton gets canned). There were rumors of Avery Johnson too, so who knows?
Maybe now that Drew was named HC, he’ll go back to playing the Vets and defy the FO like Lue had.
