Live Thread: Cavs @ Pelicans
2023-02-10Good evening CtB!
The Cavs have traversed south to the Mississippi River Delta to take on the New Orleans Pelicans in a primetime, national televised affair. The Cavs are in the midst of their first winning streak in a month and are making their postseason push to possibly nab that third seed in the Eastern Conference. The Pelicans have been in free fall down the Western Conference standings since the injury to Zion Williamson. They desperately need any win they can get to stay within shooting distance of the top 6 seeds in the West.
Taking a look at the Pels’ numbers on the season, what stands out is that they’re a better defensive team (7th in defensive rating) than offensive (12th in offensive rating) team. On offense, they like to move the ball and crash the glass, so limiting second chance opportunities should be a point of emphasis. They can be prone to turnovers so the Cavs would do well to disrupt passing lanes and steal some easy buckets against this tough defense.
No Ricky tonight. No Zion, Dyson Daniels, and Josh Richardson is still en route to the Pels. Bet accordingly.
#Cavs will roll with their same starting lineup until there is a reason to change it.
Darius Garland. Donovan Mitchell. Isaac Okoro. Evan Mobley. Jarrett Allen.
Ricky Rubio is OUT because of injury maintenance. The person taking his minutes tonight will depend on game flow

Tip off is scheduled for 10:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live on ESPN, Go Cavs!
Thank you for not calling that flop. Cavs defense is ON !
Lotta NOLA TOs. Things are looking up!
They’ve been really sloppy so far…gotta make hay while they’re screwing around…
Failed flop…just play ball…
That call on Levert was insane
I think he grabbed him with the off arm. Kind of hooked CJs arm. If he dies not fall it’s a no call.
Just following along on gamecast and the blog.. solid first with 38 points and more field goal attempts.
Pels got Cavs out of rhythm a bit there going zone the last couple minutes. That might be a problem for Cavs when one of Mitchell or Garland are sitting. We don’t really have the guns to shoot over top.
But we have a big that can pass from the free throw line. The ultimate zone breaker
Up 10. I will take that.
I really like Mitchell looking better andus making our FTs (Cedi finally missed one).
LeVert cheating and trying to defend from behind too much. Cavs gotta coach him out of this habit
It’s lazy D and part of why he gets in foul trouble.
jesus CJ with a damn circus shot
good move Cedi, good close to the quarter on offense
Cavs have done a nice job of cleaning up the way they close quarters.
Mitchel en fuego
That shot was cold
Nance flop.
Horrible call
Damnit when was shout-out?
No names mentioned Nate, just a nod to the twitter fans in this part of the world.
Can’t breathe on Ingram apparently
Cavs D hasn’t been perfect, but Nola’s is nonexistent except for the times the Cavs throw it right to em.
Mitchell got bumped on the finish. Ingram gets the same call on the other end.
100%. Frigging bs
Mitchell looks healthy tonight…
Yep.No doubt about that.
Spry & fly.
Just got a shout-out from John Michael, but I guess you are all on ESPN.
What’s the shout out?
I missed it when was it!?
When was it!?
Haha. Nice. I heard it.
I am ESPN. Very cool. Sad I missed it.
Wait what happened??
I was watching the Bally broadcast, and I missed it, whatever it was…
He mentioned getting messages from fans overseas where it’s like 2 in the morning, think he mentioned New Zealand and some others, I forget.
Was just tweeting at him about how much I enjoy these mid-morning games in Australia. He took it well.
Sorry if I misspoke and he said Australia and not New Zealand 😂
He mentioned the Phillipines as well.
James Dean – White Men Can Dunk!
Caris cannot leave Murphy there.
Okoro gets no love from the refs night after night
He’ll get there.
Stick with it…
Once he makes 2nd team all-defense, he’ll get the benefit.
These refs are calling this pretty tight.
Weak foul on Okoro there
Okoro got mugged!
Yeah got robbed on both ends
the good side of caris
GREAT DEFENSE WADE!
Caris with the sneaky finish
Caris Revert!
Lol
God the sound mix on ESPN is abysmal
3 for 3 for JA from the FT line.
Missed a bunny.
Caris!
LET CARIS COOK
Disappointing breakdown in defense right there.
damn, JA blew the bunny 4 point swing
Everything is “easy” for Richard. Easy oop pass from DG, easy finish for JA. LOL
Thankfully simulcast on Bally Ohio.
man these announcers are rough
As a reminder the Cavs had a huge lead against the big East last year, when the Pels got back in it and took out Rubio’s knee, and took the win.
Sneaky dirty team. Dirty fouls ever game I can remember of late.
Yep those damn dirty birds!
Double post offense Killen em. Rage TO. Dirty foul incoming.
JV dominating, but they’re still down 7…. Cavs look fantastic on offense, ball is moving to the right guy every time.
Yep. Other than the Mitchell semi-heat check teiple, every possession has been great.
Okoro so damned smart from the corner.
Really hate how JV always seems to have his way with the Cavs in the paint…he’s just too huge…
I love JA and Mobley, but they struggle with the really big guys. JV. Adams. Jokic & Embiid, of course.
JA got him back on the other end, though.
2 on JV
Mobley with the put back
Bigs looking good early!
McCollum consistently my favorite non-cav. Fantastically good dude (despite last game’s flagrant).
Didn’t you play him in horse?
2 on Garland. Both silly bumps.
Ease up, DG
Garland has to watch the fouls
DG with 2 already
Lol
Valanciunas is a professional actor. Guess he finally won the TT versus big V draft debate.
Man JV is massive
While team looks balanced
Cavs rebouding on point.
Mitchell fantastic save for the bunny.
Mitchell looks good. He’s getting to the rack
Mitchell looks good.
Spida with a good start
Cannot believe DM missed that bunny.
First team to get two stops in a row wins.
I agree, Go Cavs!
Big 2 Big
I dig Nawlins’ unis.
Fat Tuesday specials
Haven’t won here since 2010
Last ein in NoLo for us was 2010. LeBron 1.0. Yikes.
Can’t stand Valanciunis
JB is in a pretty good mood.
This would be a pretty big win…if they can get it…
I do wish Rubio was playing.
Objectively, yes, but I trust the rest.
I will say, seemingly every time I get optimistic about the Cavs being a truly top tier contender, they lay an egg. A 5 game losing streak after the 8-1 start. After winning 5 in a row and beating the Bucks, a three game skid. After Mitchell’s 71 and a win over Phoenix, they eent a month without a winning 2 in a row.
Ricky is back. Wade is back. I think that changes things
I wonder if Rubio is out because New Orleans was the scene of the crime, where he blew out his knee, last year, due to Willie Green’s dirty defense.
I think they are resting him on the first night of the b2b instead of the 2nd.
Well, the free-falling Pelicans have won 3 in a row with Brandon Ingram’s return. That long losing streak was mainly when they were missing both guys.
This game will be tough.
The Cleveland Cavs and their fans want to send a heartfelt thanks to Kyrie Irving for single-handedly taking the Brooklyn Nets out of contention for the next several years.
Beat me to the live thread, you rapscalion.
Get me on the court and I’m trouble… last week f$&ked around and got a triple double…
