Live Thread: Cavs @ 76ers
2024-02-23No Mitchell tonight. The All-Star flu strikes again. The Cavs look to bounce back from a listless All-Star hangover yesterday against the Magic. Key will be Caris LeVert (2-10 last game) and Georges Niang (-20) not being garbage or at the very least being replaced by players who can defend and/or make shots.
The 76ers have been reeling. Losers of 10 of the last 13, the Sixers are missing Embiid, Robert Covington, Kyle Lowry, and DeAnthony Melton, while Nic Batum is questionable. The Cavs better play like they’re a serious team, because they didn’t last night, and the questions about Darius Garland and the non-Spida crew will mount. Go Cavs.

I think its beautiful Hield buried that 3 over Garland. Sixers hit their shots, Cavs did not. Garland was a target on Defense. Perfect encapsulation of the game if we could also have a technical where Garland misses the free throw.

I get Caris is a bench player so he’s not going to be good every night, but isn’t it to some degree incumbent upon JB to recognize bad nights and use better players

Garland defense is abysmal
Ball movement seems to be better to start the 3rd.

Anyones game – need to get something from our bench squad. Can Merrill heat up? Can CPJ find a groove? Can we keep Niang safely on the bench?
Mitchell physicality and talent is obvious when he is out of game. He makes everything easier for his teammates. It amazes me all how soft we play when he is out. Also how slow and passive we play .
Yeah, Mitchell is a real max player. I’d like Garland more if he was on a reasonable contract, but he’s hard to like with his expensive contract that will really constrain our ability to develop and keep talent
I am one of the few that just don’t like garlands game the past year and half. I miss the garland of two years ago. He is nowhere near a max player.

It seems pretty easy to hard press the Cavs – we really struggle to make teams pay for pressure like that. I’m concerned because that kind of aggressive defense is what we’ll see in the playoffs
Sixers handsy as hell on defense (again), but if the refs are letting them, you gotta deal with it…
