Playoff Live Thread: Cavs @ Raptors (Game 6)
2026-05-01The Cavs have caught a break. Toronto will be without Brandon Ingram, tonight, joining Immanuel Quickley on the injured list. Now the Cavs need to use their size and shooting to close out the Raptors in their building. We’ll see how much mental toughness Cleveland plays with tonight, if Max Strus can thrive in a starting role, if Jaylon Tyson can deliver on the road, and if Dennis Schröder can pull another rabbit out of his hat.
For Cleveland, I still want to see some minutes for Nae’Qwan or Bryant to bring some energy and bang bodies, and I want to see some defensive give-a-shit from Spida and the Beard. For Toronto, this is Scottie Barnes’ moment, and the Cavs need to cut the head off the snake. If you double, double hard and aggressively to force turnovers, and if he picks you apart, back off and make him have to score 50 to beat you. As for the rest of the wine and gold game plan? Take care of the damned ball, hit your free throws, and rebound. Go Cavs.

Detroit was down 38-60 at halftime; in the first 18 minutes of the second half they’ve outscored Orlando 42-12. I realize that was “Game 6 down 2-3” energy; but, if the Cavs don’t change something, we’ll be seeing soon what energy they bring to an elimination game.

The fact that Cavs lead the series 3-2 is truly astonishing, the effort being expended is so lopsided that it makes rooting for the Cavs difficult. They have talked about wanting to change the narrative about playing harder, being tougher, they’ve changed coaches, traded players and it’s the same thing every year, punked by a team that just wants it more. They may win this series but it doesn’t change the fact that they are fraudulent as contenders.

On defense, I am not sure a team could have four mismatches to choose from. Barnes or Barrett guarded by Mitchell, Harden, or Strus is happening almost every trip. Merrill and Tyson have done their best in those matchups…
With no Ingram to worry about, why don’t they redeploy Wade as the Barnes or Barrett-stopper for as many minutes as he can handle?
Genuine question, I haven’t been able to watch due to travel.
