Live Thread: Cavs Vs 76ers
2015-02-02Tonight is a crucial game for the Cavaliers and this blog. The Cavs are trying to continue their revenge tour by avenging their 95-92 loss to the 76ers on January 5th. Last meeting the Cavs blew a 17 point lead with both Kyrie Irving and LeBron James not playing. Nonetheless, that isn’t an excuse for the Cavs poor execution. Especially since Kevin Love put up 28 points and had 19 rebounds that night. This game will be the fully loaded edition, as all three Cleveland stars will be dominating along with recently acquired game changers Timofey Mozgov, Iman Shumpert, and J.R. Smith. All three new guys are arguably better than anyone the Sixers will put on the floor tonight. It’s mind blowing to think how much the roster has changed in just one month.
The second and arguably more interesting story line of the night deals with two writers. Both Cavs: The Blog bloggers Nate and Cory will be in attendance. If the Cavs lose, Nate and Cory may never be allowed to go to a game together for the rest of their lives. The bad luck police would have to patrol all Cavs home games to make sure that they never happened to enter the Q in tandem, even if by accident. If the Cavs pull out the win, well, fans of the blog should be ready to pony up cash or some tickets because there’s important home games the Cavs must win.
Cavs should close this game out quickly and have their bench emptied by the forth. Still, the Cavs will win it large to make a statement with win number 11, 110-92.
16 turnovers, only shooting 42%. Not a consistent effort attacking the rim on offense. Luckily, the defensive effort has been pretty solid (and Philly is pretty challenged scoring-wise).
Kyrie and LeBron ’bout to shut this down.
This game can’t end quick enough.
I can’t wait to watch Noel when he puts on some mass. He has that old school look to his defensive game that just makes you want to root for him.
Agreed Kevin, love his activity.
Bout to throw down with a drunk fan over Delly!
HAHAHAHA I was wondering if EG was gonna say something to you!
Do you think it might be Cols?
Don’t do it NATE!!!!
Delly Trey!! Kyrie! Come on now, tough D fellas and let’s extend this lead….They have a couple nights off before the Clips come to town, let’s finish Philly off.
I think the Cavs came with a lazy mindset tonight.
Who the hell is Robert Covington?
DELLY TREY!!! RUDY! DAMMIT and they give it right back!
Ugh maybe this was the trap game?
TAKE THE SHOT! Jeeezzz
He did the second time, wide open, just missed.
C’mon Kyrie you had open looks!!! Quit dancing!
And it’s back up to a 10 point lead.
And just like that, 3 easy shots… a lob by TT, 2 threes from Kyrie. And the defense is back.
The lady ref has the same look on her face that Tom thibideau has. That’s not a good look for either.
Lebron has been fairly uninspiring on D and still throws the ball away too much!
I think he is toying with the sixers. Maybe Larry Drew told them not to embarrass his son
Hahah that could be true…Lebron is probably just waiting for the playoffs to go all out.
Really nice swipe by Delly.
Delly is getting some run here in the 4th.
Not messing around anymore…
Very confused as to why none of the 3 were in there the last 4/5 mins of 3rd…..We let them right back in the game!
Probably Blatt’s way of getting guys rest and tinkering against an inferior team… bad byproduct though…
Agreed, EG… plus he was probably counting on some defense with the back ups, but they didn’t do it well enough.
Yeah I think he’s just experimenting a little. Probably feels comfortable doing that for the first time since the pre-season.
HAHAH agreed Tom… finally has some margin for error, however small it is.
Transition D is a joke tonight.
Somehow the Cavs D just gave up a 30 point quarter to the Sixers…
Yeah I didn’t understand that line up at the end of the 3rd Q.
Worst defensive quarter of the night…. offense was good early, worse later. Need to buckle down defensively, and move the ball consistently on offense.
Watch the big 3 put ice on the sixers.
Oh, not worried, I think someone mentioned 5 games 7 nights…. I think it’ll be nice to have the next 2 days off.
U-G-L-Y end to that quarter…
Unbelievable ……
Cavs can’t score at all!
Moz seriously PO’d. He got fouled on that lob.
I think the refs missed at least 2 calls and then gave him a foul and that was it. I bet he will knock someone for a flagrant if he wasn’t subbed out.
He’s been getting mugged a lot in the 3rd quarter.
We had a 20 point lead a few minutes ago.
Not really sure what is going on. Will love get the whole 4 th quarter?
This rotation Blatt has is hilarious. Not a single playmaker!
Just put Irving in
This is a strange line up Blatt has out there.
I was just thinking the same thing,,,, none of the big three in.
Looks like the starters are playing the fourth quarter…
Damn it! I wish they’d just put this team away!
Mozgov needs the dark knight mask kyrie had that night in New York city
Cavs just coasting, not playing hard, underestimating weaker teams. Not good towards developing a mentally tough approach in the playoffs.
The refs missed that elbow to the face on Moz!
MOZGOD GET THAT WEAK STUFF OUTTA HERE!!! Nerlens WHO? Moz with 5 blocks!
DELLY! Nice play.. rebounding from poor play in the 1st half…. Mozgov nice block!!!
Mozilla has 5 blocks tonight!
So which team is worse wolves or sixers?
Wolves… Sixers just beat them the other day…
Man, what the heck kinda possession……..
That was a Saint Weirdo Jack by Smith!
He ran out of time and was too far from the hoop
I’ll give Philly credit. They’re not laying down.
But not TOO much credit since they only have 54 points…
They’ve won 2 out the last 3… and the lost was a close one to ATL
Yeah, but against Detroit without Jennings and Minny and both at home…
Delly with a tough guy play
Nice effort by Delly… but there’s NO WAY he wins the jump ball…
It looks like the fifth game in seven nights.
Irving is struggling tonight.
He’s been pretty sloppy for sure…
It’s odd. I think it’s nice to see him not try to force too much. Then he drops a bomb so who knows.
Glad Shump’s shot is on tonight… he looks good
Who is Jakar Sampson?
He went to the same high school as LeBron.
I don’t know but I think some team will make sure he gets a long term contract.
I was hoping he was related to Ralph Sampson.
That’s the problem with the backtap… can just as easily go out of bounds or to the other team…
Just curious , are there any nascar fans posting? I know it takes tremendous skill to drive the car but I just don’t quite get the appeal. Any ideas on what I might be missing?
I am but it’s more due to family tradition… my late grandmother was a huge fan, I watch it to honor her memory.
First bad defensive sequence of the night…. let two easy shots happen. I think they got worn down by the helter skelter sequence of plays.
Blatt TO to remind the starters they can have the 4th quarter off if they keep the lead big enough.
Some sloppy turnovers by Irving and LeBron tonight.
Come on Kyrie, get ur head in the game
I don’t want to get too ambitious here but I doubt any team will want to draw the cavs in the first round of the playoffs.
I don’t think that’s too ambitious… the rest of the league has got to be bummed out that they’ve really started to figure things out
Totally agree. #2 seed within reach… it’d be really nice to get it.
MOZ with the REJECTION and JR DEEEEEEEP IN THE Q!!!
That was a terrific pass inside to Moz by LBJ
Amazing ball movement, oh my goodnesssss
Great freaking ball movement!
Luc Richard Mbah a Moute is too much to say… Dude has got to have a nickname or something…
JR SWISHHHH!!! With another one!! Brent Brown Rage TO!
YES SIR!!! Love those rage timeouts by the opposition!
Nice JR Swish start of the 3rd Q.
MOZGOV!!! THROWING THE HAMMER DOWN!!
Great block from Moz! Too bad they couldn’t save it… frustrating to get two close turns back to back
Question: Is it possible for Lebron to cut down on turnovers, or are they as low as they can be with the way he plays the game?
Had 0 in Portland
I think he’s still working on getting timing down with the new guys too as far as the turnovers on some of the forced passes….
I’d agree EG… I think he’s been more careful with the ball lately, and as one of the primary ballhandlers… he’s gonna have some.
the sixers are very very long and athletic. More than I remember them seeming last time. they very well could turn into a good team if they add a veteran presence in the offseason. I don’t see them having success if they continue to use MCW as their point guard though. He has skills that should be used…but he’s more of a college ball level star than NBA high usage man imo. not a good enough jump shooter and not quick enough to cause problems in other ways a la Rondo. So whatever path philly thinks it is on…clearly they… Read more »
Cavs foul shooting still not great… You’d think they’d work on that in practice a bit harder…
Didn’t know Sims avg’d a 12-7 last year. Must have played 60 minutes a game.
Lol… Yeah, he was the beneficiary of a LOT of missed shots last year… Also, I seem to remember him having some good chemistry with MCW when he was good last year… Don’t know why that kid dropped off so much
Shump and Jerami Grant having nice games.
How’s the crowd, Nate? Seems like a weird energy game so far…
Seems like only LBJ and Iman are shooting decently tonight… Still holding the Sixers to 34% shooting though…
I’d agree… to your and scotch’s point… JR was saying they need to flow better offensively.
Fantastic defense, good enough offense… need to keep the energy up and put these guys away in the 3rd!
