Live Thread: Cavs vs. Mavs (Pre-Season Finale!!!)
2015-10-19Color me excited… because tonight, the Cavs finally say goodbye (and good riddance!) to the preseason portion of their schedule, and then get a full week to continue to heal up before the games that matter begin. Even though they finally got Kevin Love back on the floor last night, the Wine & Gold crew is still feeling pretty black & blue from their various physical setbacks and missing pieces. Without Kyrie, Shump, he who shall not be named/depicted, and very probably LeBron, who could blame the Cavs if they were green with envy at the healthiness of other NBA teams? At least they get to match up with an equally winless and banged up Mavericks squad at the Q this evening, who (sadly for them) still have two more meaningless contests to struggle through, and an owner who’s still seeing red following a disastrous off-season.
Yet, the overriding hue of tonight’s game will be pink, with the Cavs hosting their annual “Breast Cancer Awareness Night” in conjunction with Cleveland Clinic and Susan G. Komen Northeast Ohio to help educate fans and bring awareness to the worthy cause, as they #PinkTheQ.

Though he’s no longer rocking a pink cast following his surgery, Iman has still been one of the most vocal Cavs in support of breast cancer awareness, having lost both his aunt and godmother to various forms of the affliction. He’s even created his own shirt you can order, with all proceeds going to support this worthy cause. Also, the good news about his missing cast is that Shump is making good progress on the road to recovery.
The Mavericks, like the Cavs, also have a slew of guys missing from their lineup, including Raymond Felton (left hamstring strain), Chandler Parsons, (knee surgery), Wes Matthews (left achilles surgery), Deron Williams (right calf strain) and JaVale McGee (left tibial stress fracture). Dirk Nowitzki, however, will start the game for Dallas.
The probable starting lineups should be: Mo Williams, Matthew Dellavedova, Richard Jefferson, Kevin Love and Anderson Varejao for the Cavs; and J.J. Barea, John Jenkins, Justin Anderson, Dirk Nowitzki and Zaza Pachulia for the Mavs.
With the Cavs (0-6) and the Mavs (0-4) a combined 0-10 for the preseason, they represent the only two teams in the NBA who have gone without a victory. So, this could turn into an interesting battle of winless attrition…
It's the 0-4 Mavs vs. the 0-6 Cavaliers tonight. Rick Carlisle: "Something's got to give."

The only other issue to be settled, is the race for the 15th spot on the roster amongst the Cavs’ training camp invitees. Jared Cunningham (aka Much Danger Ninja), seemingly has a strong grip on the lead, and this game could be the last opportunity for the rest of the field to make an impression. However, with a certain holdout dragging on, there might be at least a temporary additional spot for one more lucky D-Leaguer.
Tune in to Fox Sports Ohio, or 1100 WTAM, to find out how it all resolves at 7 pm EST.
GO CAVS… and #PinkTheQ!
But Christmas can’t make plays like that. A fitting end from the star of the preseason.
Nice Ninja move Cunningham. He’s got that 15th spot.
Any word on who makes the team? Gotta think Cunningham is a lock unless they’re worried about having no big men right?
Great clutch.
Christmas has looked better as the game has gone on. Not really a huge difference between he and Christmas offensively.
Come on, mdn, lock up that roster spot.
I think his only competition now is Cool Hand Jack…
Glad he missed it…
Much danger ninja got lucky. Got his ankles broken.
This is almost a guaranteed triple try by Jenkins coming…
There’s a Dallas player with the last name “Famous.”
how can we not even hit rim on these possessions?
Move over Joe Johnson, there’s a new Iso Joe in the NBA :(
Joe Harris ruined that possession.
Joe Harris ruined this preseason…
Daye just did ALL kinds of traveling on that play.
Great D by MDN on Jenkins last possession…
Who is the pasty ref?
Kind of would like one preseason win.
Daye travel traveled twice then put up an air ball.
Honestly thought he was a favorite for a roster spot coming into camp. Has show less and less with each outing.
He also just can’t play much D…
Cooley averaging nearly a board a minute… 17m/15r
Gotta sign Cooooooooooollllleeey! Or as Fred calls it Jack Haran-Cooley!
Great put back, cooly. The travel call was dodgy.
Looked like a clean step to me. Refs, I don’t like em.
Did Kaun get the night off? I don’t remember seeing him enter the game.
Yeah, all the stars resting tonight.
Cooly could make this squad as a TT placeholder.
Cavs should probably carry a fifth big man anyways.
Of course that would typically be Kaun.
Cooley with 14 boards!!!
Six of them are offensive too!
Lets throw him that Max Contract now. 5 years 94 mill.
Cooley eating rebounds!
Like so many eggs!
Wow. The cooly/harangody resemblance is amazing.
Right?! Gotta be somehow related…
I think they both played for Notre Dame.
Damn Johnny Cash Jenkins!
The Ninja draws ANOTHER offensive foul! MUCH DANGER!!!
Anderson gonna be a stud.
I love Blatt. Likes coaching the scrubs as much as the stars.
Finally Blatt deciding to play Moz in the fourth quarter… wait… what year is this?
Break out the Delorean!
Apparently Delly fouled out!
What a great back-to-back set of plays from MDN after he lost the ball…
Nice
Move
XMas!!!
Danger Ninjas here!!!!!
Joe Harris is a one man scoring run for the Mavs.
THA NINJA!!!
Liked how Cunningham didn’t give up there.
COO-LEY… COOOO-LEY!
Holy Lord, Joe Harris is not an NBA caliber player.
Not even close.
Mejri is really really tall…
I like this nickname too! Kudos Jason Lloyd…
@FiveThirtyEight: 2015-16 NBA Preview: Paul George is back, but the Pacers are still meh https://t.co/MUGVWKhzkp https://t.co/K7c6sGnSoD
Christmas stinks! He won’t make the squad.
Second foul the Ninja has drawn on Jenkins!
Cavs maintaining the good D this quarter…
Really like how MDN sees the floor… seems to know where to make the extra pass too…
JAMES FREAKING JONES!!
Do you guys know how exactly the coaching staff keeps track of each players exact minutes during a game?
WOW! Cavs with a 40 point quarter!
Lot of teams are going to regret not signing jenkins. Reminds me of Danny green.
Unfortunately for him… he now plays in Dallas…
Actually a great opportunity with their dearth of guards.
Just mean that he’ll probably miss the playoffs for the foreseeable future…
3, 2, 1… Until some Cols hate.
Brain cram by Cunningham.
Looked like he was going for the ball though…
I think Cooley will make the team along with Cunningham. Rebounding is a skill that translates at all levels.
If this game is any indication… you may be right…
It really looks like these guys down at the bottom are playing with the urgency of the last preseason game. Last chance to show their stuff before season starts.
The Cooler with a block!
Thought XMas was gonna blow that layup. Still recovering from Dion memories.
You know things are going right when even Christmas can score…
I REALLY am starting to like MDN. He’s got some real potential.
Yeah we might win a game here.
man, these Cavs are lookin good!!
I think Kyrie might be Delly’s biggest fan.
They are both Aussies…
I loved just seeing Cavs in a full court press.
Whew. I like jenkins’ Gane. Would have been a fantastic addition.
RIch man’s Cunningham… with a better shot.
Christmas, uhhh yikes, does not seem very capable
Uh, how else did they want MDN to get thru a screen?
Yeah, and Jenkins completely sold the contact….
Blatt seems like he wants to win this game.
The Cooler!
I’m kind of liking Cooley. Looks physical but marginally competent. Could have a chance.
Cooley has 5 ORBs, GIVE HIM THE MAX!
That’s all it takes these days right?
Cool hand Jack!!!!!!!
Bad call on that Jenkins foul… touch foul at best…
