Live Thread: Cavs @ Raptors (#NorthernExposure)
2016-10-28On the same night that the Cleveland Indians play Game 3 of the World Series in Chicago against the Cubs, the Cavaliers head back to a familiar place north of the border for Game 2 of the regular season. At this point, you’d have to believe that the residents of Toronto, and fans of their sports teams are probably pretty sick of all things Cleveland related. After all, both basketball and baseball clubs used their corresponding representatives of The Six as a springboard to the Championship round of their respective sports. As seen above, Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan had front row seats to the latter after getting beaten on the court for the former back in May. Maybe the city should apply for an NFL team…
But, for all of the losing Toronto has done to Cleveland lately, Lowry thinks he might have figured out a plan to overcome the bullies from the South this season. After all, the Raps actually fared pretty well in the Air Canada Centre in the Eastern Conference Finals last year, winning Games 3 & 4 at home before finally succumbing in Game 6 in The Six. They also brought the fire to a pre-season game at the Q two weeks ago, when Lowry went off for 25 points in just 20 minutes of play. The game didn’t count, but the Raptors sure looked eager to deliver some payback to the Cavs.
The Raptors come off of their resounding victory over the Pistons in their Opening Night performance on Wednesday, where they blew out Detroit behind a 40 point explosion from DeRozan and a 32 point/11 rebound performance from Jonas Valanciunas. The Cavs, after a close first half against the Knicks, also scored a convincing 29 point laugher at New York’s expense. LeBron James notched the first Opening Night triple-double (19/14/11) since Jason Kidd had one to kick off the 2007 season, and the Cavs celebrated their “ring night” in style. With another strong rebounding night tonight, LBJ could potentially become the franchise all time leader (he needs 11 defensive boards to pass Big Z).
Toronto will be without Jared Sullinger (left foot surgery) and Delon Wright (right shoulder surgery), while Lucas Noguiera (sprained left ankle) is questionable. The Cavs should have both Iman Shumpert and Kay Felder (concussion protocol) back in action, but will be missing Channing Frye as he was excused from traveling with the team with the passing of his mother, Karen Mulzac-Frye, after a long battle with cancer (our thoughts and condolences go out to Channing and his family in this difficult time).
Raptors probable starting lineup: Kyle Lowry, DeMar DeRozan, DeMarre Carroll, Pascal Siakam and Jonas Valanciunas. Cavs probable starting lineup: Kyrie Irving, JR Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson.
Gametime is 7pm EST, and the action will be televised on ESPN.
Prediction: Cavs overcome a slow start to bring another loss to The North, and eke this one out 104-101.
The Tribe might make it tough to tune in much for this one after the first quarter or so, but chime in as you can… and GO CAVS!
I can’t figure out if LBJ is in “chill mode” or just having an off game…
Definitely an off game. He’s busting ass out there up and down the floor
GREAT sequence
Lowry about to get himself a Tech for yelling at ref…
KLOVE THREE!!

JR SWISH!! There you go Kevin!

Bron’s passing is off tonight…
Need some low post action. Offense is getting predictable.
TT playing some better D on JV this half…
Great dish and dive between LBJ and TT there!
Both team with short rotations like the playoffs
Somebody needed to Delly half court foul DeRozan there to stop the break…
JR seems a step slow after missing camp. Few scoring opportunities slipped through his hands.
Maybe offensively, but not defensively… he’s got two steals and another tip away to start the second half…
Good point. Miss his scoring!
He’ll come around
Poor box out by Cavs on Siakam…
Okay… I think everyone has switched over to the Tribe…
How much will they fine him when he actually does this to Rondo?

It’s time to declare Kyrie as the primary scorer on this team…
Everybody cold to start the second half…
Love has a tougher time with guys running at him on the threes….
JR Smith is playing some great D tonight…
Tomlin just adjusted his crotch and pulled himself all the way to home plate.
His cup runneth over.
For a guy who’s been around baseball all his life, Joe Buck sure has trouble reading fly balls off the bat.
Just wait until his crush Kyle Schwarber comes up to bat…
This strike zone is dead wrong, but I assume Tomlin will get it too
You probably assume wrong… think of where they’re playing and what’s at stake… This ump is worse than Leslie Neilsen in the Naked Gun…
LOL this game is a joke. This guy is calling low and away on BOTH sides of the plate. Shades of ’95.

This strike zone is such BS
Flashbacks to Maddux and Glavine in ’95.
Although I think he just got himself picked off at first…
LINDOR! Man that kid is good!
Runners at the corners!
Kipnis breaks up the no-hitter in the first…
Wow. This ump’s strike zone…
Pretty good first half… even though they could have probably scored a bit more, they played some inspired defense on the Raps holding them to just 38%
T.T. AND VALUCUNAS HAVE PERSONAL BATTLE —-BELIEVE THERE WAS ( MAYBE STILL IS ) COTROVERSY ON WHO THE CAVS SHOULD HAVE DRAFTED THAT YEAR T.T.OR BIG VAL ——KNOW WHERE MY VOTE IS

Shumpert has been shaky… good effort, just not playing controlled.

Damn guys I thought I was all alone here… now I refreshed the page…. everybody’s been here!!! LMAO!
Yeah… we have to look at that… right now, just hit refresh every once in a while…
Raps have been playing to defend the pass against LBJ which has lowered the assist total…
Nice skip pass by KLOVE in the post… RJ rebounds his own miss and gets FTs
Love triples off the great ball movement to give Cavs biggest lead of the game so far…. digging the ball movement!
This team seems devastating the second the get some momentum. It’s unbelievable
KYRIE TO KLOVE FOR 3!!!
Great 1v1 defense by TT!
Great steal and finish by JR! Great pass by JR and KLOVE draws the foul!
Thompson needs to do a better job on Valunciuas. Kardashian already messing him up?
https://twitter.com/Indians/status/792154135843991552
THAT( NO MORE VINES ) MIGHT PUT YOU OUT OF A JOB EVIL—–GO TRIBE !!
Nah… we’ll find a way
Kyrie is breaking Lowry’s spirit, who is trying like a madman on , and Kyrie drills 5 or 6 in his face.
JR steal and DUNK!

I don’t get that Under Armour Curry commercial. Emphasis on failure. That’s going to sell shoes?
Well these shoes anyway…
?quality=88
Guys… I don’t know what we’re gonna do when they shut down Vine soon…
Seriously. Can’t believe they didn’t consult us.
Sad panda.
Not crazy about the 8 offensive boards given up so far tonight.
That’s what JV does though… TT always has trouble with him…

Cavs are having trouble making lay ups. Still catching their breaths! Thankfully we have Kyrie to hold em steady.
Kyrie, heating up! Meanwhile, the ugliest National Anthem singer since Roseanne belts it out in Wrigley.
KYRIE ON FIRE!!! step back 2! Forces TOR TO!
Kyrie another jumper… stops the TOR run.
RAPTORS OUTREBOUNDING CAVS RIGHT NOW BY 5 BDS / NOT ON PACE TO GET OUR ‘MAGICAL 23 ” EITHER —-
KLOVE with a great up and under… can’t convert.
https://vine.co/v/5pm5awmqFLX
Just sick.
No window. But you cannot turn your head, especially when James has the ball.
Great steal by JR! on DeRozan!
Man, brick fest out there.
Great back door from James to Irving.
LBJ takes the charge!!!
Second foul on Lowry on a questionable charge…
AMAZING FINISH BY KYRIE!!! LBJ with the beautiful assist!!!
What a play out of the inbounds!
Dunleavy looks a little out of sorts still out there. He is going to be deadly when he gets comfortable though. Really heady player.
KLOVE with an airball and sloppy defense on the subsequent defensive possession. lead down to 3. TO.
Oy. There have been a couple pretty horribly open looks from three for the Raps.
I’m telling you, 20-10 run right here.
I hope the Tribe starting Santana in Left isn’t the same kind of experiment as Cavs trying Shump at PG…
It has the potential to be truly disasterous. I was surprised Tito went with it. Guess he figures Santana’s bat is worth more than Coco gives them in the field, although Crisp has been about as productive as Santana in these playoffs, and Hendricks is a control pitcher, not a flame thrower, so you’d think Coco’s age would be less of an issue tonight.
Francona is so good at putting players in position to succeed. This is the opposite of that. And they’ve been winning with pitching and defense. This is the opposite of that too.
Never fails. Santana will probably need to handle 6-7 chances tonight.
This is the new Cleveland – City of Champions don’t have those issues.
