Live Thread: Cavs vs. Bucks (#HelpWanted)
2016-12-21The Cavs were already looking to hire some seasonal help to fill out their bench, and that was before the news that J.R. Smith would need surgery to repair his broken right thumb suffered in the first night of a back to back with the Milwaukee Bucks. Now, David Griffin’s Christmas shopping list may just have gotten a bit longer, as it’s likely J.R. will be out until around the All Star break. He’ll be on the lookout for a backup big to replace the injured Chris “Birdman” Andersen, a potential backup PG, and maybe at least a temporary replacement on the wing to put under the wine & gold tree. It’s a lot to ask… turning the lumps of coal that currently reside on the end of the Cavs’ payroll into some diamonds in the rough. It might take a bit more than just some Christmas magic.
He might just have to take out a classified ad…
Without J.R., and minus the services of Kevin Love (knee contusion), the Cavs had their hands full with the young Bucks last night. It took some extended efforts from LeBron, Kyrie, Richard Jefferson, Iman Shumpert and some additional help from Channing Frye and DeAndre Liggins. And, they get to do it all over again tonight with a double dose of Milwaukee’s finest. The Bucks’ slogan is “Fear The Deer” but they might want to change that to “Reindeer” the way they tend to fly up and down the court against the wine & gold, especially with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker doing their best Dasher and Dancer impressions. They’ve even got a Rudy now to guide their way in Delly.
Speaking of Delly, he gets his Christmas present early this year, as the Cavs will honor him prior to the game (just like Mozzy on the weekend) by awarding him with his well deserved Championship ring.
“It’s going to be pretty special,” Dellavedova told cleveland.com. “It’s my Christmas present, so, I’m really looking forward to it. My family’s going to be in town and it’s going to be fun.”
It might be a case of Silent Night/Weary Night for the Cavs after they had to work overtime to beat the Bucks just a few hours ago, but Coach Ty Lue claims that everyone is available (at least those Cavs who are healthy). Kevin Love will miss his second game, although he should be good to go against the Nets on Friday night. As Lue says, it’s a next man up mentality…
"Next man up. We gotta be ready to play." – Coach Lue on Liggins getting the start tonight in #CavsBucks#DefendTheLand https://t.co/znHBn5cGhA
— Cleveland Cavaliers (@cavs) December 21, 2016
DeAndre Liggins will get the start in place of J.R. at shooting guard, and RJ will get a second straight start in Love’s stead. LeBron, Kyrie and Tristan will start as usual. For the Bucks, both Michael Beasley (foot) and Khris Middleton (hamstring) remain on the injury list.
The action tips off at 7pm EST on Fox Sports Ohio.
Prediction: The Cavs find enough left in their stockings to stuff the Bucks 103-99.
.
Bucks with a late run… just like yesterday…
Orange Julius shaqtin a fool
Mamba going Shaqtin’ on that shot…
Does McRae have an assist as a Cavalier?
McRae considers assists advanced stats and analytics be damned.
winner
Like the other Mamba he’s quasi-named after… McRae says “Pass? Just get the turnover…”
Passing, you talking bout passing?!! Actually feel like AI is more of McRae’s spirit animal. Because, I feel like AI hated passing almost as much as he hated practice.
McCrae and Dunleavy are contributing…who would have guessed?
*McRae
Jordo McCro
Dunleavy says…

Kyrie hyper efficient tonight. Also great court vision. Multiple tremendous kickouts for wide wide open threes and some nice finds for cutters. He can definitely pass and see the floor.
WOW! What a quarter! 20-11 run to close it!
Kyrie with the hoop and the harm!

Wow they are great in transition. Also Parker is better than Wiggins.
Parker has been amazing lately…
Especially when Bron is (not) guarding him.
Well, u could say that for just about anyone when they are matched up against a locked in Lebron.
He is a lot more athletic than I thought he was coming out of college. Better ball handler than Wiggins and has go to post moves.
LIG!

Rare off the side of backboard shot for LBJ…
AC and Fred both just said this is exactly like yesterday’s game
Brogdon might take Delly’s job eventually…
Tomorrow? Delly’s better off bench.
He is a player. Dunno what his stroke is like or his court vision but he is a pretty damn good finisher based on last night and tonight.
D at the rim has been pretty good this quarter. Cavs challenges have definitely affected the Bucks.
Kyriediculous.
KYRIE!!
Kyrie casually banks in the three after the whistle… then hits and ACTUAL one!
GREAT DEFENSE
Snell should have gotten a basket interference anyway for grabbing the rim with his other hand…
Meanwhile… Alphabet just walks and commits an offensive foul on the other end… but gets the call…
Wow. Jefferson’s legs are made of titanium.
Yeah when I saw the replay I had flashes of D Rose.
Kyrie gets fouled 5 times on one drive. Only gets two free throws.
Like the way Kyrie is attacking…
Kentucky Louisville is pretty good halftime viewing.
Lots of great blocks by TT but no one helping him and usually leading to an easy layup after the block.
True… he’s also gotten blocked a couple of times…
Points in paint even at 28… Though the Cavs only allowed six in first quarter… 22 in the second…
Cavs outrebounding the Bucks 24-18 tho…
Cavs shooting 55% but only up 5 at the half…
The bishop! Gets himself to the line.
Great D on that last possession tho…
Bucks with another run to close the half….

Well this is looking a lot like Last night.
Take LeBron out – the Cavs suffer
This team is a bit of a matchup problem for us on d because of their size. LBJ and TT are really the only guys that can challenge their length at the rim.
Bucks on a 9-0 run…
This feels a lot like last night’s game…
Another one…

Another closer look at Kevin’s shirt…
https://twitter.com/CavsGregBR/status/811737705952477184
Remember when TT used to get blocked on half his shots? Really hasn’t happened much since LBJ came back.
TT with a great move (by his standards) and Parker with a better block…
