Live Thread: Nuggets @ Cavs
2017-02-11The Cavs are back home after a strong road trip where they went 3-1. Their only loss was against the Thunder, and it was the final game of the trip on the second night of a back-to-back. The big three looked completely gassed for long stretches, which ultimately caused them the game. Overall, the road trip was successful as Tryonn Lue got the offense moving the ball and looking for the wide open shot instead of contested ones after lots of dribbling.
In the past four games, the Cavs have shot a league leading 45.2% from deep landing 15.3 a night, which is also tops in the league. They’re have turned the ball over nearly 16 times a game though, which is a bottom ten number. If they clean up their carelessness with the ball, they’re going to become even more terrifying offensively.
The Nuggets are 3-3 in their last six and traveling to Cleveland after beating the Knicks just last night. Nikola Jokic carried them in New York scoring 40 points on 17-23 shooting to go with nine boards and five assists in  37 minutes.
Thing To Watch
1.Kevin Love, LeBron James, and Kyrie Irving are all tired, and it really showed in the fourth quarter against the Thunder. They couldn’t secure any stops or hold on to the ball, which resulted in them giving away the game. Hopefully, a full day off being back home will refresh these guys.
2.The Cavs have to try and put the Nuggets away early. Denver doesn’t have any true super stars, but they’re deep and slightly above average in almost all areas. Their primary bench guys are Jameer Nelson, Jusuf Nurkic, and Wilson Chandler. The Cavs would gladly take any of those guys. Denver’s depth has allowed them to have just one guy playing over 31 minutes, Danilo Gallinari. If the starters aren’t doing it tonight, Tyronn Lue should just let them rest instead of over extending them for a possible win.
3.Kevin Love needs to feast on Denver’s smallish front line. At some point Kenneth Faried or Nikola Jokic will be on him for extended stretches. Â Love should just over power Faried and out smart the sopomore Jokic. He’s also going to want to control the boards to keep Denver from having the chance to attack an unset Cavs defense.
4.Derrick Williams is playing his second game as a Cav after going 3-3 for 12 points, while playing really solid defense against the Thunder.
I’m picking the Cavs tonight, 123-113. They are really clicking, and they just need one guy to go off for the chance at a blow out with how efficient their baseline offense has been.
DeAndre Liggins is the starter at shooting guard as of 5:45 PM.
Danilo, Emmanuel Mudiay, and Kenneth Faried are out with injuries. The Nuggets bench will have significantly less depth.
I don’t care if Lig ever scores… love the way he plays D and the energy he brings…
Yeah. He can be elite on D. He’s not much of a shooter. Still, he passes pretty well. Sees the floor. Pretty good on the drive. Decent on the glass. Decent handle. Keeper.
I just wished the Cavs play like this in road games.
We just ran out of gas on that last trip. Plus, the deeper we get, the less chill mode we’ll get.
I’m talking about their overall record in road games. 14-11 is not good at all
Love warming up. Those passes get him going?
KEVIN! Heating up!
http://coverstimeline.com/app/template/386.jpg
Nugs score their first points of second half with just under seven minutes remaining…
Offense is HUMMING right now!
Ligs to Ky for 3. Cavs go boom. Up 19.
“FREAKS ” DUNK WAS SO EFFORTLESS ALSO
We’re cooking now. Love to Ky for 3.
That Love pass…

Kyrie heating up before the ASG. I hope he puts on a show this year before destroying everyone in the playoffs.
How about a 15-0 run to start the second half!
LIG TO KYRIE! UNCLE DREW!
BEAUTIFUL offense.
They’re really keying on Jokic now…
Lig behind the back TWICE on one drive…
Great pass from Love to Lig for a TD. Up 11.
Nuggs aren’t matching the Cav’s energy. Good to see.
NEED TO GET SOME GOOD SEPARATION FROM THIS TEAM NOW
I mean LOOK where he takes off from!
https://twitter.com/ESPNNBA/status/830595762966847489
I know nobody was talking about him at the time, but it just kills me every time I see on of his highlights and have to remember Chris Grant drafted Anthony freakin Bennnent. That’s some Browns level BS.
Go read CtB predraft coverage from that year. We spent time on Gobert and Giannis.
I remember you were all about Gobert. Wish we would have had you in the war room that night.
I remember Gobert specifically because I thought you were out of you mind. :)
Love’s chest passes will never not be exciting. I prefer them to any play on the court.
YEAH WE HAD OUR ENTIRE STUDENT SECTION REMOVED FROM THE GAME LAST NIGHT DUE TO ” SOME YOUNG THINNED SKINNED OFFICIAL ” COULDN’T HANDLE BEING RIDICULED —-EVEN OUR A.D. WENT BALLISTIC ON THE REF—-THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO PROFANITY –JUST YOUR NORMAL HECKLING OF AN OFFICIAL —-WHAT A LOSER !!…….DAMN JUST THINKING ABOUT IT GETS ME FIRED UP—I NEED ANOTHER (ROLLING ) ROCK !!
Liggins had made some good passes tonight. Kyrie missed the layup. Almost an and-1 there.
TOUCHDOWN! Love to Lig!
Good try at the and one by Lig…
Kyrie must’ve taken 20 seconds to get back after missing that layup.
Great pass from Lig… Ky just missed the layup…
THERE IS SOME MANLY AGGRESSION / FORCE IN THAT DUNK —–“BIG E ” WANTS TO MAKE / STAY WITH THIS TEAM !!!
I wish someone would do the move where the entire arena turns their back on the guy and is dead silent until their own team’s intro and then they turn back around.
I MISSED IT —HOW DID THE ” BIG ENCHILADA ” HANDLE THE HALF TIME INTERVIEW —HOPING AFTER A BIG WIN AND A GOOD PERFORMANCE WE HEAR FROM HIM AGAIN
Great. Very humble and seems really thrilled to be on this team. Says everyone has been terrific in welcoming him.
Enchilada dunk…

IMPRESSIVE—-ALSO SCARY !!
HOLY COW! Free throw line dunk in regular season!
https://twitter.com/NBAcom/status/830592972404187136
Eh, still about 8 inches in. Won’t be legit till the whole foot is behind the line.
Such a hater… ;)
I’ve seen LeBron dunk from there. I mean it’s been 10 years, but I’ve seen it.
KD getting booed almost as bad as LBJ did when he came back first time with the Heat…
Yeah but clevelanders got creative. I’ll never forget the “Del-on-te!” chants.
OKC did a pitiful job booing Durant. Now I gotta go fire up LeBron’s return in 2010 on YouTube.
They’re booing him every possession…
THIS IS WHERE ANOTHER “BIG ” TO BANG ON ” JOKES ” WOULD HELP
Yet, Love and DWill both did a decent job guarding him in the second quarter… Joke is only 6’10…
Fun half. Lots of back and forth. Williams still needs to box out, and Cavs still not getting back on D in transition. Kyrie still worthless in high pick and roll D. As soon as they switch the big gets a basket.
Cavs bench outscoring Nugs bench 21-9…
YEah, that’s been a big big plus.
Each team with some guys out (Denver -3 starters). Cavs minus JR & Shump. Still, with Korver, Frye, & D-Will, we have some offense off the pine. Korver starting to feel free to create a tad tonight as well.
ANYONE SURFING TO THE OKC GAME —–NEED TO START GETTING ( NOT ALLOWING “O”REB’S ) MORE “D ” REB’S —-2ND CHANCE PTS KILL YOU
Yeah. I like Sabonis, Oladipo, and Adams. Hate the town but hate the Dubs more.
Fun game. Up only 4.
Enchilada half time interview!
TT has become a legit roll man
Ky cooling as well. Enchilada at the 3 with Kyrie, Lig, Love, & TT. Ky 3.
Has Joke had a triple double yet?
He did earlier this week, if I am not mistaken.
Kyrie HUSTING!
AGREE WITH YOU NATE — THERE ARE MANY G.M.’S SAYING THE SAME THING
Love has cooled off after a quick start. Still, much improved D this quarter. If we’d cleaned the glass, it would really have been good.
Cavs and Nugs each had 12 boards in the second quarter…
Bron putting Juancho in a blender earlier…
https://twitter.com/SLAMonline/status/830588997483233281
EVIL HOPE WE ARE TYPING THAT ( #1 TO #2 PICK ) MANY TIMES IN THE FUTURE
He keeps playing like this we will…
I still can’t believe jokes was a 41st pick.
Celtics should trade for him… Thomas to Jokic would be a second round All Star combo…
Korver is so good without the ball
Enchilada nice job guarding Jokic
“THREE-TWO-ZUS “
KK is really active tonight! Rolling off those screens!

Not many weaknesses in Jokic’s game…
Defense. And that’s why he will never be a superstar., unless he improves dramatically.
He didn’t look that bad to me…
His numbers, advanced and traditional, are awful. Also, he doesn’t pass the eye test for me.
With EG on this one. Plus, KI is a superstar who doesn’t D.
So was KLove.
Williams is more agile than I thought.
Keeper. We are officially 11 deep (counting JR & Shump).
https://twitter.com/AmicoHoops/status/830588406975647748
“ENCHILADA ” CAN REALLY HELP IN ALLOWING THE STARTERS SOME REST —–” ROLLING ROCK AND ENCHILADA’S ” GOOD COMBO
So it appears Williams is a keeper. It seems like an ideal situation for both sides. The Cavs add a versatile player with upside, who is playing for his career. Williams gets an opportunity to play meaningful minutes to advertise himself to the rest of the league.
Is there rojo or verde sauce on that?
Like the defensive hustle. Gotta clean up the turnovers and box out.
Fun sequence there.
Enchilada!
GREAT PASS KYRIE!!!
“ENCHILADA ” BRINGING THE RAIN !!
Careless TO there. Actually, poor call. He got two feet down again after going out.
That Frye miss shouldn’t discourage the Cavs from running the Korver/Frye two man game… that can be devastating…
