Live Thread: Cavs @ Pelicans (#ReadyToStart)
2017-10-28At this rate, everyone on the 15 man roster will get their shot in the starting lineup for the Cavs (maybe even the two way G-Leaguers too). Tonight Ty Lue will trot out yet another different starting five for what seems like a new one every game. Derrick Rose, who was almost ready to rejoin the team, is out again with his ankle sprain, and in his place, Iman Shumpert will be making his first start of the season. This is primarily because Coach Lue had already decided, in the wake of swapping DWade and JR Smith, that he was also going to give Tristan Thompson his starting job back and move Jae Crowder to the bench. So, there will be a moderately healthy Wade and now Crowder to help lead the second unit. Meanwhile, the spacing of the starting unit just takes another step sideways.
LeBron James will make his third straight start at Point Guard Forward Person, and Kevin Love retains his spot, though sliding over to Power Forward to make way for TT. Perhaps Lue decided he wanted to go big given that Anthony Davis will be active and ready to start on the New Orleans side of things, and he and Boogie Cousins make for a formidable twin towers up front. Yet, the rest of the Pelicans lineup is pretty guard-heavy, so who really knows.
The big question is whether or not the Cavs are finally ready to start defending the three point line… because a repeat of the 17 makes they’ve allowed to their last three opponents would put them at a disadvantage to snag a victory at the Smoothie King Center. The Cavs also have to hope that JR Smith is ready to start making some triples of his own… since he’s just 3-25 so far (12%) on the young season.
Catch all the action starting at 7pm EST on Fox Sports Ohio… and as always, chime in here…
Jedi sighting!!
So when are the Cavs going to fire Coach Lue? To me this team plays with no effort on defense just like they did last season. It’s really painful to watch.
Nate says by January…
Not a Brad Stevens fan but I have watched all the Celtics’ games this year and they are playing with much more cohesion. More new players than us too. Kyrie and Horford seem to have good rapport
All due respect… screw Brad Stevens…
I hear you EG. Not a fan as mentioned but have to admit they look cohesive
They’re going to lose to the Heat tonight I bet…
Maybe we should hire back lue’s predecessor, he knows better D and LBJ will be gone anyway by next year. Lue isn’t connecting with our current roster, he might have ran out of strategy and creativity.
Yeah… no reason to burn LBJ on this one… Senor Cajones about to check in…
And now it’s a turnover fest…
Holliday just torching the “perimeter D”
I’m out for this one…
Gator arm Green…
Maybe Ty is listening to me?
The book on the Cavs is shoot lots of uncontested 3s.
TT having a tough night too with just 2 boards. The Delly Oops were his best offense
This is just a good team. And even worse coaching
Sorry meant to type NOT a good team
Pels have 30 assists…
Just about out of reach now… would just keep Bron on the bench and save him for tomorrow against the Knicks…
Nah, play him 44 minutes in an 8 point loss…
That is the Ty Lue handbook…
Yeah I’ve for given up on this one.
Man Crowder is all kinds of bad off the bench…
I mean… that’s just ridiculous that AD can hit those…
Extra painful to give up an AD three and then miss a KK three…
Looking like a loss…
Good to see Kev back out there…
So many second chances…
Frye needs to make those…seriously…
About the only thing he’s done wrong tonight though…
Allie reporting that IT is taking over huddles… that’s a good sign…
Wade to Green on the backcut!
Cavs bench has outscored the Pels bench 26-3… so that’s something…
Never saw Crowder in this kind of funk when we played the Celtics. Mystifying to say the least
He did at times…
Happens sometimes when you get sent to the bench for no good reason…
Sucks that Love got his knee taken out by clumsy AD just as he was in his hot streak…
Too many second chances for the Pels that quarter… but much better than the first two…
WAD3!
Cavs now can’t hold onto a freaking rebound…
Wade with a great play, but throws it away on the break…
Realy think Pels would beat the Warriors if they could slide Shump in the lineup…
Frye only seems to do good things on the court this year… would love to see him used more…

AD just falls down and they call a foul… dude is super uncoordinated…
And just like that… Cavs back down by nine…
Crowder misses the freakin rim
Oh man… Crowder missed everything with that corner three…
Wide open, too…
Hope he’s okay…
AD just took out Love…

Love has it all going right now…
Cavs come all the way back thanks to some actual D and some timely threes…
Finally raining threes like last year !!
We got the leeeeeeeeeeeaaD!
Pels are really taking a lot of bad shots…
Cavs playing much better D effort wise… but also Pels forgot how they got the lead in the first place…
It’s a ball game
LOVE!!
Boogie and LBJ in a three point shootout…
Practice three for Cousins…
LeTURNAROUND!
SWISH!!
Pipe!
Shump is better with starters
God, Love, finally…
This isn’t like the third time they’ve gotten within 7, let’s see if they can get it tied up.
“IS” stupid I-Phone
Better contests to start the second half…
If Boogie and AD are gonna jack up threes… Cavs might have a shot…
Man, LeBron cut his hair real short…
LeTHREE!!

Second straight 30 point quarter… allowing 58% shooting… otherwise, Cavs are right in this thing… /s
Wish Cols was here paanicking like he does every terrible performance.
Well… halfway to 17…
JR has sadly done nothing in 13 minutes tonight
He has done nothing all year. He was like 2-28 from three…
Holliday and Moore not missing much…
These refs are hearing imaginary things.
It was the ghost of the Cavs’ defense howling…

Well, there’s something to feel happy about.
Missing free throws seems like a good way to get back in this one… /s
These Pelican refs are awful!
Ian Clark spent too much time with Steph Curry…
Nothing dumber than seven footers trying to take offensive charges…
