Live Thread: Cavs vs. Warriors (#SilverLinings)
2018-01-15Just when you thought it was safe to watch a Cavs game again… along comes the annual MLK matchup with the Golden State Warriors. Who could forget the last two occasions? Last season, the defending Champs got housed by 35 in an embarrassing loss in the Bay Area… yet, it didn’t seem quite as horrific as the MLK Massacre of 2016 that ultimately cost David Blatt his job. Still, losing by a combined 69 points on this particular holiday has inspired more nightmares than dreams for the Cavaliers and their faithful.
If that wasn’t depressing enough, this year’s tilt comes on the heels of one of the roughest rough patches the wine & gold has experienced in the LeBron 2.0 era. The Cavs have lost three straight (in spectacular fashion), five of their last seven and eight of their last 11. They’ve looked out of sync on offense, and almost non-existent on defense, struggling to work out their rotations on both ends of the floor. Ty Lue doesn’t seem to have answers, outside of the cryptic “agenda” narrative. LeBron seems at a loss. Even the ever positive Isaiah Thomas is a bit down… calling his first two decent games “fools gold” after going just 5-26 from the field in his last two games.
Okay… enough of the bad news. The good news is that the Cavs are returning home to the Q, where they still own a 13 game winning streak (easy enough to forget with 17 of the last 20 days spent on the road). Cleveland is 15-4 at home, third best record in the NBA, and LeBron is averaging nearly a triple double in games at the Q this season (29.5 ppg, 9.5 rpg and 9.9 apg). Yes, they’re facing a fully healthy Warriors team (Steph Curry missed the Christmas Day game at their place), which has been on a tear since Curry returned, winning 12 straight on the road. However, there’s something to be said for having your collective back against the wall… especially against a team you are desperate to beat.
The recipe for disaster is there for sure, and there’s every reason to believe this could be another crushing MLK blowout given how good the Dubs have been and how bad the Cavs have been lately. Yet, the Cavs have rarely done the expected thing this season… and pulling out a win against the defending Champs would be just the kind of weird end to this rough patch that nobody would see coming.
Prediction: The Cavs clear away the dark clouds and find a silver lining amongst the Golden onslaught… taking a close one 110-108.
Again, I have no idea if this will come to pass… although the last three games I covered (Bulls, Blazers, Magic) just happened to be the three games the Cavs won during this 11 game stretch… so there’s another silver lining.
Catch all the action starting at 8pm EST on TNT… and, as always… chime in here!
Tt has hands like rocks sometimes.
Are cavs only team that can’t guard a pick and roll?
In the NBA? Probably.
Cavs hav held it together with James getting long rest
tt such bad hands !!
The sooner jr and TT are gone the better
Neither one is a contributor.
Went off Green’s shorts.
I wish Wade would let IT run the point…
It is going to struggle against their length
Is Greens jersey in or out?
Good question
Was called out of bounds on Cavs but ball glanced off the jersey of Dray
tt sucks cant get a board on both ends
I remember once upon a time we use too…!
That was a pretty blatant travel by Looney…
And pretty lousy D by TT.
Dear DWade,
I just hope that you are saving all your bullying tactics for the finals. I sincerely believe you could play a huge factor in disrupting GS by going physical on their guards. Please make me right.
Wade responds to my tough coaching.
BSSSS That is Cavs ball
IT can penetrate the paint but can’t get the shot he wants
yeah he looks really rusty
Isaiah’s J is still not there.
Cmon TT, get those!!!
Remember when IT used to hit everything? In Boston?
I like to see him focus on the mid range shots like Kyrie would get against these guys
Win or lose, this should be the last game before the Cavs make the necessary trades. We’ve pretty much known how do we stack up against our co-contenders.
Sweet Wade shot
IT shot no good
LOL. Cavs were in the lane for like 10 seconds and got away with it.
Let IT bring it up and push the pace…
Jeff Green is the worst. -CavsTheBlogNate
Klay always looks like he hates everyone
Flame on!
Vintage Wade!
Flash!
Second unit looking decent
Uncle Jeff!
THank God for Green
WAde is kind of useless lately.
TT with a steal and Korver with a 3
Allie LaForce: “What changed for you to catch up to the Cavs?” Kerr’s thinking o 0 O (wade kept turning it over)
Ref had to think about that foul… had to decide if he wanted an earful from Dray…
I wish that was reversed… IT taking the 3
Dray makes some ugly drives…
The rebounding…..
Man… I despise long rebounds… especially on twos…
no point of jr being in , even when he gets open inside doesnt have the confidence to take the quick shot or laayup, and than will dribble for another couple seconds than shoot without even looking at the basket, also defense is sooo bad
I hope IT doesn’t try to win the game by himself now.
I want to see a IT, Crowder, Green, Thompson +/- Korver, Cedi or Wade lineup with LBJ and Love sitting
Cavs need to drive against warriors…either making layups or getting benefits of calls…solid qtr but other guys have to step up
jr has zero confidence
I hope the Cavs plan on stepping up the defense the rest of the way.
Can’t continue going blow by blow against GS
Doubt that’s on their list of things to do today…

Wonder how much that correlates with the disruption of the dinobots rotations with TT and the inserting of IT into the rotation.
He had three decisions on that one and made the worst of the three.
I’m afraid that as soon as Lebron goes to the bench now this game will get out of hand for the Cavs.
I got a good feeling about Korver tonight…

lebron sometimes gets in turnover mood

They are hiding Steph on JR – JR needs to take advantage of the size advantage
Turnovers are going to kill us.
Why is LeBron stepping forward after he turns it over.
Agreed – ended up in a 3 v 1 and he did that on Klay earlier in the quarter
Lebron going nuts….JR is a joke…love made curry nervous haha
The Cavs’ allowing uncontested drives is throwing the Warriors out of sync at times.
Great put back by Bron! Great steal by Uncle Jeff!
No TNT. Can’t watch. Is James going to have to play 48 for the cavs to be competitive?
Probably. Even that is not likely enough, all it will take is for the Cavs to go into a scoreless streak for a couple of minutes…

Close out the pup up quickly after hitting play.
Oh nice!
Another stupid pass
Too many second chances for Dubs…
fun may be over for now
Argh. Wade at point has been a total disaster lately.
dont tell me tt is gonna come in????
Does Lebron have to get 50 tonight??
Kev just did an awesome job on Curry… once again
Great D twice over by Love on Curry that possession. Sucks that Iggy converted the air ball.
Wow… Steph should get a fine for that flop…
HOnestly, what the hell???
How did Iggy blow that?
DWade just can’t do that tonight
Cringeworthy
Webber “great steal there by Durant”… I mean…
