Live Thread: Cavs vs. Spurs
2018-02-25The Cavs took on San Antonio approximately one month ago and got Spurred pretty hard. I know, I know… the Sunday afternoon puns. Anyway, the Cavs barely had an answer for LaMarcus Aldridge, Kyle Anderson, Davis Bertans, Dejounte Murray as they collected 13 offensive rebounds and profited from the Cavaliers’ 19 turnovers. As we know, though, this isn’t the same Cavs team.
Key to this game will be controlling the Spurs on the boards, defending them inside, and stopping their key shooters (Bertans and Green). The Spurs are 3-7 in their last 10 games, and it’s reported that Kawhi Leonard may be out for the season as his strange injury lingers. They’ll also be without Manu Ginobili who’s out with a bruised sternum.
For my money, the Cavs will be fine if they limit the turnovers, defend, and don’t do dumb things on offense. I’d agree with Mike Schreiner’s assessment that Jordan Clarkson was a little shot happy and that the Cavs’ needed to work the offense a little more against the Grizzlies, especially when it came to getting Kyle Korver shots. Clarkson can get any shot he wants, but he tends to go 90 miles per hour and not use his speed as a change of pace in the half court. He also can be a black hole at times, and gets tunnel vision when there are guys open. You have to play on the edge to be a good offensive player, but if Clarkson can take 5 MPH off his fastball a-lá Sandy Koufax and play with just a little more control, he could be great offensive player, instead of just good.
Let’s hope this Cavs team has it in them to be great rather than good for this game and the rest of this season. Go Cavs.
Really have a hard time understanding Lue’s rotations…It just doesn’t seem like he has a plan or that he has a plan and will not deviate from it no matter what is happening in the game… One thing IT was right about is that it seems like this coaching staff has no ability to make in game adjustments…
Yup he was right bout that , and there were reports about wade constantly going at clueless , lue is terrible 2016 championship was a miracle it was despite lue not a bec of him.
Yup, we need epic performances by Kyrie AND LeBron for games 5, 6, and 7 and they both delivered.
Needed*
He’s the best defender on the team.
and he played a whopping 15 minutes…Lue needs to get his head out of his arse…
15 minutes is a joke when compared to some of the other players’ minutes who were mostly ineffective. Lue needs to take a lesson from this.
Lue doesn’t have the balls or brains to make any adjustments as needed, how it works 99percent of the time in the nba is – the best players start because they set the tone and usually play more min. So jr and tt gotta go, and hood and nance gotta be in , and bench won’t be bad with kk green clarkson jr.
Getting Love back will help, especially with 3 point percentage.
15 minutes for Nance…makes total sense to me…
8-34 from the three point line. The Cavs need to mix it up more. They need to try to drive more.
Tom and I playing the, “is that celebrity still alive” game. My wife apparently thought Bill Russell was named “Dick Scott.”
It’s like every game the Cavs shooters go cold is not only one that goes cold it’s every single one of them. It can’t be that way.
I’m afraid that as long as lue is coach our ceiling is very limited. He’s a joke
I agree, it seems that he just doesn’t know how to demand and get the most out of his players like coach Popovich does.
Can someone tell me what Lue was doing down the stretch? His lineups (both how long he stuck w/the starters when they were obviously off and then taking Nance out when stops on D were the only way to get back in the game) were garbage, and he never seems to step the F up and get called for at T leaving LBJ to have to get one himself. I seriously wonder at times what he provides as a coach, especially when you sit through a game watching Pop give a master class on coaching – managing timeouts, the flow… Read more »
I would agree…He looks completely lost most of the time…and never seems to make adjustments when things are going south…i thought the same thing…He needed to replace probably Korver with Nance for the defense to have any chance…and he stuck with Smith way to long when he was obviously having a bad day…This would have been a good game to see what the lineup of LBJ, Clarkson, Hood, Nance, and Hill or Green could do to finish the game…
The Spurs did get away with a lot more on defense than the Cavs D was allowed…It’s hard to watch a game that is called unevenly…But the Cavs missed a lot of wide open looks from 3 that would have changed the game…
Time for a new starting lineup?
Seems like it’s obvious…
Yup! I leave cedi cause his d is soo consistent , yank jr and tt for nance and hood. Jr is terrible defender and inconsistent on offense , tt consistently sucks on both ends.
Definitely, the bench unit will get weaker but the Cavs need some young energy guys in the starting unit.
Silver lining is the Cavs would’ve lost this game by 40 with the pre trade team…and they played pretty terrible uninspired basketball today,..
Spurs do a lot of the same crap Boston does on defense. Get away with a lot of reaching, jersey grabbing, and slapping. Didn’t notice that before
GLAD I DIDN’T WATCH—-START THE RUMORS LEBRON GOING TO SPURS TO BE COACHED BY A “REAL ” COACH
Bron and pop wouldn’t work. Different philosophies on basketball
You couldn’t be more wrong
We won’t win any games shooting this poorly from 3…
Cavs sucked this game hood disappeared as did hill and jr
Playing Green at center and getting killed on the boards…
Aldridge just out hustled Lebron for that rebound….
James should be po’d at almost all his teammates for not showing.
That should’ve been a reach in on slow. Mo.
Just a brutal Clarkson turnover…
Argh. This game.
Disappointing game to watch spurs showing more energy than Cavs
Good D. Good movement. Korver misses a 3. Hits the 2nd one.
FT parade for them.
Still a lot of time. 6 minutes.
Cavs unraveling.
If that was a T then 50% of the Warriors team would be T’eed out of every game before the end of the first quarter…
That T on Lebron was a joke…
This is a loss.
Bron got hit on the head
LBJ still gets no love from the ref versus the Spurs.
Gotta admit, pretty tired of losing to Kawhi-less Spurs…
When Korver can’t hit a freebie you know were in trouble…
Korver pretty bad today too
Korver misses a tech. Yikes.
Ugh Korver. Spurs methodically dismantling the d.
Argh. Kyle is struggling tonight
Ball. Don’t. Lie.
Another stupid foul on a 3. After we couldn’t clean the glass.
Spurs are long. Also pretty great at using that length to force tos, at least tonight. Cavs are sloppy and getting torched in transition.
Still plenty of time.
Bron stopped the bleeding. We look like a team with a bunch of new guys. Disjointed.
No foul when Lebron gets knocked to the ground…this is absurd…
16-0 run.
These refs are complete garbage..
another save by Gasol with his feet out of bounds…
We can’t even run a set.
All I’m seeing is Murray making layups…
We got a long ways to go. More length. More shooting. Better PG play.
Kept all the cold shooters on the floor way too long
CLueless needs a lot of help from pop he’s right there he should go ask for it
Tom and I at lager heads in medina
The Spurs are just on another level, their defense is really solid. The Cavs still have a lot of work to do to get to that level.
Cavs struggling to get shots and hit them…spurs dictating everything
We miss Love. Bron gonna have to play the rest of this one.
Dumb Clarkson TO.
This unit needs Calderon.
Dumb foul there. Clarkson gives them 3.
God, those foul calls are so cheap…I don’t care who they call them on…
they allow so much contact all over the floor in this game and then they call that cheapo…
Thank God for Clarkson. Cavs got spurred on the end of that quarter.
It would be nice if Clarkson is just in the zone…him or anyone else…
Korver has looked pretty old lately.
We are struggling to close out quarters.
Q Green lighting it up…revenge for the Cavs cutting him…/s
James, Clarkson, and Nance seem to be the only players playing well for Cavs.
Dude…Gasol was way out of bounds when he made that save…
Band-aid man!
Lebron playing like Godzilla, so give him some help…
Captain Bandaid again!
