Live Thread: Pelicans @ Cavs

After a 2-1 road trip that saw the Cavaliers’ injury problems continue, the Wine & Gold return home to Quicken Loans Arena tonight to take on the New Orleans Pelicans in a matchup that features two of the biggest stars in the NBA. While James Harden will almost definitely win the NBA MVP Award this season, the Pelican’s Anthony Davis and the Cavaliers’ own LeBron James are like to finish second and third in some order on most of the voter’s ballots.
Both James and Davis have dealt with multiple injuries to their teams while keeping their teams in the playoff pictures with their respective spectacular play. The Cavaliers have dealt with multiple injuries to Kevin Love and have yet to have their entire roster healthy for a game this season. Kyle Korver is out tonight due to a lingering foot issue, while Kevin Love and JR Smith are both listed as questionable. Meanwhile, the Pelicans were dealt a crushing blow when All-Star DeMarcus Cousins was lost for the season with a torn Achilles. Jrue Holiday has been excellent this year for the Pelicans, but if Rajon Rondo (currently listed as questionable with a wrist issue) misses tonight’s game, then Holiday and Davis will be relied on as the Pelican’s sole offensive creators.

Wonder just how rigorous Love’s concussion protocol was.
This is such a frustrating team to watch this season. Seriously. WTF is going on? Why can’t there be any consistency from one game to the next, or a logical strategy from the coaching staff as far as rotations? Yes, there has been roster overhaul. Yes, there have been injuries, but… Boston has had as many, if not more injuries to contend w/as the Cavs and they continue to win.

Hill just didn’t even look to shoot. He had that wide open jumper at the free throw line and threw an ill advised pass for the turnover. Zeroes across the board in 15 minutes.
Yeah hasn’t been good. Not sure what happened to aggressive hill.
Can this team become an absolutely elite d in the playoffs? Not just mediocre, but elite enough to compete with whoever comes out of the west? I thought when things got rolling in March and April the new guys would turn them into a good defense, not for the year, just for the last month and a half. Think a lot of it is scheme and lack of preparation combined with atrocious habits built up over the year.
I was thinking the same and I’m sure they will not become great defensively during the playoffs and if they make it to the finals I bet it will play the same bad kind of defense they played last year at the same stage.

The coaching sucks.
1) We lack energy & D & Cedi stays glued.
2) We lack coherent O with LBJ out & Jose stays glues.
3) We lack toughness & rim protection & defensive rebounding & Zizic syays glued & we play Green at the 5.
Awful.
The only 2 guys that care about playing defense every night are Calderón, Nance Jr and Cedi.
The rest of squad are just sleep walking out there all the time.
