Live Thread: Cavs vs. Blazers (#GoingFor3)
2019-02-25Do you remember the last time the Cleveland Cavaliers won three games in a row? Well, it wasn’t this calendar year… and, in fact not even this current season. It was all the way back on May 7th, when the wine & gold forced the LeBronto Raptors into playoff extinction with a 4-0 sweep. You have to go back a month prior to that to find the last regular season three game streak… to April 5th against the Washington Wizards, which actually finished off a six game tear for the Cavs.
Point is, it’s been a while since this team was the type that could win back-to-back-to-back contests with ease. In fact, this is only the third opportunity the Cavs have had all season to attempt such a run by stringing even two consecutive victories together. A large part of what’s made this latest one possible is the return of Kevin Love. No matter if he’s hitting shots or not, Kev has so far instantly elevated the rebounding, passing and all around play of the team. His presence has also seemingly had a positive effect on the younger members of the squad.
Tonight, the Cavs must attempt to get their three the hard way, as the final opponent of the home stand is the relatively hot Portland Trailblazers. The same Blazers who torched the Cavs in the Rip City, 129-112 a little over a month ago. The challenge will be to stop Portland’s inside out game, and try to slow down Damian Lillard, CJ McCollum and Jusuf Nurkic. As an added bonus, old pal Rodney Hood returns to town… possibly looking to show up his former team.
Prediction: Yes, the Cavs are better now that Love has returned, but three is a crowd when it comes to Cavalier win streaks and Lottery odds… the wine & gold keep it close for three, but the streak ends when the fourth quarter arrives… 116-108.
Catch all of the action starting at 7pm EST on FSO… and, as always feel free to chime in and follow along with us here at C:tB…
Good fight.
Great Cedi game. I’m a believer. It won’t be every game, but he’s been good/great for about 7-8 out of the last 9 he’s played.
Love was not nearly as good tonight. But decent. Still knocking rust.
Portland showed us what a good team looks like. We have a ways to go to get there. McCollum excellent tonight.
Agreed. Also Nurkic is in the discussion for best center in the game right now.
Makes me wonder what people think (especially educated but non Cavs fans) between Cedi and Sexton:
Who has a higher floor? Who has a higher ceiling? Who has a better chance to be a star? Who has a better chance to have a solid career as an NBA starter?
Obviously it’s apples and oranges, but that adds to why I’d be interested to hear different opinions.
Sexton and knight totally outclassed by lillard and McCollum. Cedi showed up big though.
Couldn’t have asked for much more from Cedi. I barely noticed Knight in the game, tbh…
He’s still on minutes restriction I think… Knight had a nice sequence when he started to attack, but it was way too late in the game when it happened.
Really impressed with effort tonight, could’ve quit but didn’t.
Yeah. Defense matters.
IKR…. that was awful in the 1st quarter.
Well that was fun while it lasted.
Sexton! Love! Trying to keep hope alive
And now its pretty much over, and the refs seriously handed Portland at least 15 points on utter trash calls.
17 point lead (now 14), just like that…
Cavs out of gas …. Valiant effort
Channing Frye is the perfect mentor for Chriss.
Wow… 6 point swing there.
Wow, that sequence makes it tough…
Dang, wide open for Nance.
Terrible call again.

Nurkic with a very dumb foul.
5th foul on McCollum
Just getting home from work. WOW. Cavs holding tough.
Sexton’s shot is pretty pure…it’s a set shot, but can’t argue with it…
Cedi slip pass TO Sexton for 3!!!! Beautiful team work
Youngbull!
Oh eff that noise. Love smacked in the head no call.

Holy hell, i thought we were going to lay down after the first quarter and couldn’t bring myself to come comment…but damn
We are right back in this, even after some awful calls.
Glad the refs didn’t bite on that flop at least.
Clarkson with the drive!!
Chucky Clarkson throws up another brick.
Omg. The officiating in the game is garbage.
Clarkson post up!!!!
Chris tried to out tough kanter instead of use his feet.
Kanter too big for Nance.
