Preseason Live Thread: Cavs @ Bulls
2021-10-05Good evening CtB!!!
The wait is over, the Cavs first action of the 2021-22 season is tonight! They are taking on the revamped Chicago Bulls in Chi-town, tip off is at 8:00PM ET. As per Chris Fedor, the Cavs are planning to start Evan Mobley at power forward, although J.B. Bickerstaff hasn’t decided on an opening night starting lineup as of right now. Go Cavs!!!
new Live Thread posted if y’all wanna hop on over!
In response to Fedor spin about preseason being “meaningless”…. get your Cavs under bets in before it’s too late!!!

TLDR, preseason is meaningless for title contending teams, predictive for everyone else.
Or for super terrible teams like Cavs.
Pelton didn’t include that caveat, only for contending teams… he’s claiming it’s true for bad teams too.
going to be a loooooong year. still trying to figure out long-term keepers, etc. and develop the young talent.
young talent ? where ? (i will give you mobley, but nothing is guaranteed)
Wow that second quarter was putrid and disjointed defensively. Cavs 15 TOs in the first half, feels like about half of them were from baseline drives and then a (poorly considered) attempted dump-down to someone tall in the paint. Lots of pre-season discussion about picking up pace but Cavs really needed some way to slow things down during the Bulls starters run onslaught, they gave up something like three uncontested dunks from baseline cuts and it had the feel of a drill/exhibition for the Bulls, JB might have called TO way sooner had it not been preseason (perhaps that it… Read more »
yup DG didn’t bring it at all, didn’t even attempt to get his own shot.
A few notes on the first quarter (which Cleveland lost, 33-27): -Markkanen getting minutes, was obviously nervous / couldn’t make shots -Sexton’s lack of peripheral vision also a problem defensively, let Vuvecic get an early free dunk -spacing on the Allen-Mobley front court is going to need work; do you want a possession ending with Allen standing in position for a corner three attempt? -Sexton can’t help himself and still wants the ball (including on inbounds) when Rubio is on the court -Sexton puts minimal effort into going around picks -Rubio looks great -Okoro does not look particularly effective or… Read more »
I wasn’t overly impressed with Cedi. Like to see some run for Stevens/Windler at his spot.
good stuff Adam
I watched the first half, but wasn’t able to post during it. I liked what Rubio brought, but don’t see much point in many minutes of Rubio and DG together. Way too many sloppy turnovers to get much of anything out of this game. Everyone looked like they wanted to make too fine of passes, and they were all turnovers. Liked Mobley’s defensive presence, players are going to learn not to try to shoot in his face. I think Garland and Okoro just had lousy games. I don’t expect that to continue. Sexton was Sexton, pretty much. I hope by… Read more »
yup, playing Rubio off ball is basketball malpractice, of course JB would try it LMFAOOOO
Bulls are good, every move was a plus outside of DDR, and I actually liked that move.
DG was overly passive…. it was a Sexton, Rubio, and Markkanen brickfest for offense.
If SexLand both isn’t scoring 20 a night what else do they have to offer?
If I were Dan Gilbert I’ll press the reset button already.
glass half full.. glass empty.. or, glass with large hole in bottom ? this assemblage of mediocrity (at best) was designed to fail (by the chief pretender himself Kolby).. and what a spectacular failure it is going to be, and the trade value (or whatever may have existed before the un-pantsing last night) has been turned into road kill.. looks like checkmate.. after the first pre-season game.. might be a first in “pro” sports.. maybe they win 15 games.. de-evolution in action
DG has proven he can make plays for others, as for Sexton, absolutely nothing.
Who’s next year’s #1 draft pick?
Adrian Griffin baby!!!
I think it’d be better for our mental health if we talk about the future rather than this 82 game season..
the gangsta the cavs gave to houston last year scored 25 in the opener..
Put up 50 and 10 assists in a win against the bucks last year after we traded him.

Sexton wanting to play well in Atlanta means no one else will see the ball when he’s on the court.
Chicago added Caruso and Ball and they had the Cavs guards in jail all night… even Lavine had 3 steals and DDR had two blocks!!!
Amazing what guards with size can do.
Length matters!!!!
Looks like the Cavs will have another top-10 chance to take one. Will they this time, or take another player from the 1980s NBA?
Stevens and Windler have earned some of Cedi’s minutes tonight. Frankly Sexton’s too, but maybe that won’t happen.
Throw in Okoro too
I thought Okoro’s D early was fine, they just didn’t have a role for him on offense.
I think his lack of offense with that group is the reason I’d consider Stevens or Windler… I pitched Windler last year, but obviously that blew up with his health.
LMFAOOOO Chicago crowd booing Denzel, they hate him so much LMFAOOOo
Wade!! confident looking shot!
Man. Pangos is tiny. Plays physical. Sets screens, but he’s gonna have a hard time competing at his size.
yeah, he’s relatively small and lacks elite speed/agility
Small but slow.
Exactly!! LMFAOO
But smart, plays physical, makes right play and shoots well. He’s a 3rd point guard/insurance policy. He’s fine as that.
Like Delly.
nice ball movement! Wade to Windler to Pangos!
Stevens another nice drive.
Windler with a nice rebound.
Another strong drive Stevens!
couldn’t make it two in a row tho
Stevens gotta take a better shot than that.
nice hard fouls there
Nice drive Stevens!
Pangos looks overmatched so far. Cavs look unathletic.
