Live Thread: Magic @ Cavs

The Cavs welcome the Orlando Magic to the banks of Cuyahoga River for a massive early season Eastern Conference clash. The Cavs sit atop the East, and are clearly vying for a top two seed should everything continue according to plan. The Magic’s bid for a top three seed took a devastating blow as Paolo Banchero will be out for awhile due to injury. The Cavs will have to adjust their game plan and mindset in order to come out victorious tonight. A game that was easy to get up for becomes a trap game, and the game plan should revolve around how to limit Franz Wagner.
The Magic are an excellent rebounding team and will test a bottom 10 rebounding team in the Cavs. The Magic defense is also top five so the Cavs’ offense will certainly be tested against Orlando’s strength, length, and athleticism. Luckily, the Cavs are also bringing a top five defense against a mediocre Orlando offense made even weaker with Banchero’s absence. Hopefully the Cavs can take care of business since this is also a front end of a home-road back to back with the Milwaukee Bucks looming in 24 hours.
Tip off is scheduled for 7:00PM Eastern time and will be broadcasted live nationally on ESPN’s Friday night NBA Showcase, Go Cavs!
uncle buck is going to be placing a few small bets on cavs winning conference and title this year, while the odds are still in my favor, and they are still relative longshots.. just as i am drawn to the dumpster fires of imploding organizations, i also love those times when a team is able to find the next gear(s).. cavs now have a fine italian racing transmission, rather than that of an old mack dump truck.. the worm has turned..
One of the interesting sub plots is how KA seems to be solving the “undersized guards can’t play defense together” as well as the “two bigs can’t play together” problems.
Trusting the backup guards to play extended shifts frees DM and DG to be more aggressive in ballhawking. They are picking up a billion fouls but really being disruptive going for stops and steals.
That is a really good habit and they’ll be even better in the playoffs when whistles get swallowed.
That’s a great take. Certainly, having the problem of depth is pretty necessary for this style of play to continue, but absolutely taking advantage of a relative strength while we have it. On the opposite side of this coin, I am hoping that we’ll see less dg forays into the lane to attempt to avoid head and face injuries. There’s no way he’ll avoid them, but I am really curious if we’ll see a slight shift in his style to avoid putting his body at risk

Echos of Steve Kerr taking over from Mark Jackson in the Kenny Atkinson situation. Not perfect but you can see a team coming into its own adopting a pace and space approach.

the JB era might have set things up for the KA era. but there is no question that JB’s skill set does NOT match a top contender
100%. Cavs were a mess before J.B took over. Remember Kenny Atkinson backing out of the Charlotte job after originally accepting it? I imagine he would have had a similar view of the Cavs job. J.B had his limitations for sure, but he deserves a ton of credit for getting the Cavs to this point.

Who are these guys wearing the Cavs uniforms? No hero ball,no dribble 15 seconds and start something, no start sluggish and make a run at the end of the third quarter, no 40 mins a game for the core 4….Last week I saw them run an inbounds play that produced immediate points.This is hard to take in,.They look so poised and in the flow ,,,,,,Hats off to Mr Atkinson
