Live Thread: Cavs @ Pistons
2025-02-05The Cavs travel to the Little Ceasers arena tonight to take on the Pistons, but will be sans Donavon Mitchellm The wine and golf brain trust are smartly holding him out after he took a nasty fall against Boston and contused (is that a word?) his shoulder. Still no Okoro or Wade while Detroit while only Jaden Ivey remains out. The Pistons traded for KJ Martin this afternoon, and it doesn’t appear as of now that the Cavs are holding anyone out for trade purposes, so this should be a fun one.
Detroit looks to bounce back atter getting “Trae-ed” by Young’s non-stop trip to the free throw line, Monday, leading to a two point loss. Key will be executing the offense and stopping Cade Cunningham. Go Cavs.
ALSO MIGHT HELP IN KEEPING TY HERE ALSO—— DO WE PURSUE THEIS OR WAIT
dunno — who is Wait?
The Thunder have waived Daniel Theis, the team announced in a press release
Need it
Didn’t realize Ty and DeAndre were teammates on the U Va 2019 NCAA champion team. So while this trade sacrificed some vibes, it’s adding some good ones too. With Merrill coming on strong lately, if/when we can get a fully healthy Wade back on the floor as well, this has the makings for some great second unit lineups.
THANK s NATE !!!
Cavs can add two buyout guys or one and convert a two way
IS TOM “ PUT ME “ LIN ELIGIBLE TO COME UP WITH THE CAVS —— NOT SURE WHAT KIND OF CONTRACT HE HAS —BEEN VERY IMPRESSIVE THE LAST 10 or so GAMES 25 / 13 STATS
My bet is that someone gets promoted and they sign him to the two way.
MAN I THOUGHT KPJ WAS BANNED FROM THE NBA —————- BR HAS BEN SIMMONS GOING TO CAVS / ROCKET s ON A BUYOUT——- YES / NO ON SIMMONS
Not in favor of Simmons, but if it happens, the Cavs should have a good enough locker room to deal with him… I hope.
Simmons at the min would be an all time wild card gamble. there is a 1 in 100 chance that he would get sane and finish his career strong — but I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for that to happen.
Schröeder to pistons is the most pistons move ever.
Clippers Trading Kevin Porter Jr. To Bucks For MarJon Beauchamp
Just flinging poo back and forth
ha-ha !!
BUYOUT LOOKOUTS NOW —KLOVE ?? ——WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME MINUTES FOR “ MORE THOR “ TOMORROW————- JUST THROWING THIS OUT THERE. ( DON T THROW STONES AT ME ). EMONI HAS BEEN UP WITH THE CAVS / COACHES WATCH HIM DAILY—— HIM AND CARIS PRETTY MUCH SAME BUILD/ SAME STYLE OF PLAY—- DOES ANYONE THINK THE CAVS HAVE CONFIDENCE/ FEEL HE CAN FILL A BENCH ROLE
He’s under contract for another year. I doubt he gets bought out.
Love is horrible. Prefer some real size
There will be time for us to see what Emoni Tyson and Thor have.
Cavs still short a big. Buyout or free agent guys I’d imagine.
The writing was kind of on the wall with Caris. I agree with others, like the trade but sad to lose an awesome dude.
He’s got to be heartbroken, I definitely feel for him.
Hopefully back next year
👍🍺👍🍺👍🍺👍🍺——- “ MORE BEER PLEASE “ —- WELCOME TO THE LAND DEANDRE !!!!—— CAVS JUST GOT BETTER!!! ——— THANK YOU AND GOOD LUCK TO BOTH CARIS / GEORGES —— GOOD DUDES — GOOD MEMORIES YOU BOTH GAVE US !!!
I like this trade. They held onto both Tyson and their tradable first, ie, didn’t overpay. As great as Caris was playing early in the season, had to question if we’d see “that” Caris again down the stretch or in the playoffs; he’s already exceptionally streaky by nature, and the wrist was clearly more than a minor injury. And Ty’s emergence makes Caris’ skill-set redundant. Niang did a lot of grunt work for the Cavs, but it’s clear he cannot hang when they’re playing the elite teams, all of whom have long athletic wings. Someone had to go. I’d have… Read more »
yes, the emergence of Jerome made this trade possible. That was huge. I also like the trade. We got a little bit better today. Although we do need to replace Niang with another backup big.
Yes, I hope they still do that with a buyout market pickup or a minor trade. Also hope that KA will be forced to give Tyson some of the “minute eating” role with Niang gone.
YES SIR WINDMILL TYSON AGENDA TO DA MOON!!!!!!!
agree. all the projections had Tyson also going which is why I was not in favor. I think Tyson can take the Caris role.
Dennis Schröder heading to Pistons
Fred Katz: Cleveland got a little better today I’m into the De’Andre Hunter move for Cleveland, which has been on the prowl for someone to slot next to its two elite bigs and two elite guards for years. The Cavs have rotated Dean Wade, Isaac Okoro and Caris LeVert into and out of that spot. Now, we’ll see if Hunter can occupy it. No question, he’s in the midst of his best season ever, and that’s not just because he’s averaging a career-high in points and efficiency. He’s been a stronger driver than ever. He’s playing more physically. If the… Read more »
the physicality is a piece that really matters (and tbh I’m not sure that’s there with Cam, as much as he’s the better player).
Physicality is a large part of why Wade is so damn helpful too, but Hunter despite being a little smaller should be able to drive with strength, something Dean is bad at and Caris was also bad at.
Whose Cam? Did you mean Caris?
Yeah I meant Caris
Bogdan Bogdanović traded to Clippers: Source
Bogdan Bogdanović traded to Clippers:
Alex Slitz / Getty Images
I can confirm that Terance Mann and Bones Hyland are Hawks, and Bogdan Bogdanović is a Clipper. ESPN was first.
The Clippers are also receiving:
2025 Minnesota second-rounder
2026 protected Grizzlies second-rounder
Their own 2027 second-round pick
This is excellent for Atlanta, a good day for them. A lot of playmaking to surround Trae with Vert and those guys. Bogi is a nice lower usage piece to surround Kawhi and Harden and Powell — more with less, although I think Mann and Bones are better players by quite a lot.
good trade! But definitely tough to see our guys go. Grown attached to both (at times) over the last few years)
Worried about the leadership vacuum without Niang, but we still have TT and it’s clear Ty has emerged as one of the veteran voices.

Via Hollinger: De’Andre Hunter is having his best year in an Atlanta uniform, and this trade leaves a lot of questions of how exactly there anemic Atlanta offense will score points the rest of the way, with Jalen Johnson already out of the season. That said, the Hawks had to do this, the return is simply too good and Hunter’s future reliability health wise too questionable. Getting three seconds and two swaps is far more than the Hawks could have returned for him at any other moment in recent history, and gets the Hawks off two years and $48 million… Read more »
Cavs opened up a roster spot… they’re not done presumably.
Caris is such a good dude. My wife is very sad. Niang, too, really. Gotta wonder what they’ll do for a back-up 5 now. George was at least game to try playing against bigger, more athletic guys.
Maybe a buyout, or JT Thor?
it’s a buyout guy for sure or I guess you try Thor or a G League guy Friday. why not
Niang needs a little fuckin love even if it’s too late and he was arguably overpaid a bit at $8m.
Never missed a game, never stopped moving the ball or shooting, did everything asked of him from guarding KD to Jokic.
G WAGON FOR LIFE
For sure. I agree. A good dude. He was also a good locker room guy, and gave this team some edge.
Agreed. My only frustration with him as a player–outside of not being sure if he ever was really in shape–is that he looked out of place playing extending nightly minutes with a championship-caliber roster. He would be a fun guy to cheer for on a rebuild or as the eleventh dude on a loaded bench.
And you nailed the availability factor. Would that Wade had that in his DNA…
excellent inbound pass to set up DG for the winning shot. pretty good last touch of the ball as a Cav.
I’ll miss Caris. Hope they can resign him next year.
yup, his defense was amazing this year.
Amen–filled in so many holes on a nightly basis. His four-year per 36-minute averages with the Cavs: 15.9 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 5.5 APG, 1.3 SPG, and 0.5 BPG at 36.3 3PT%. A great guy to have when starters are unavailable or as a sixth man.
jesus, those are great two way numbers… feel like the wrist thing this season ruined him.
No one will confuse the two, but Mitchell’s per-36 with the Cavs? 27.8 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 5.3 APG, 1.6 SPG, and 0.4 BPG at 38.3 3PT%. The takeaway for me is that LeVert did a lot of the same things Mitchell did, albeit without being a defense’s focal point, in an appropriately complimentary role…and a likeable competitor and person. He fit in well with this team. I hope Hunter does too.
The Hawks and Cavaliers have reached an agreement on a trade that will send forward De’Andre Hunter to Cleveland, according to Shams Charania of ESPN, who reports (via Twitter) that Atlanta will acquire Caris LeVert, Georges Niang, three second-round picks, and two pick swaps.
Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com confirms Charania’s report (via Twitter), adding that the Cavaliers are looking to include a third team in the deal as well.
Cavs have like 5 pick swaps out there.
Hunter for Vert, Niang and picks.
Wow
It’s Niang and Caris
Ironically one of the best five man lineups the Cavs had included Caris and Niang (both plus Sam, Spida, and Ev were +34.2 in 84 minutes… 3rd most used lineup)
DeAndre Hunter is a potential trade target for contenders who want a fifth starter or sixth man for the next few years at fair market value (two years, 48.2 million after this season). However, the Hawks have been seeking a first-round pick and have been reluctant to take on long-term salary if they are going to move Hunter, according to league sources. The Hawks can shave about $40 million off their books next season if they can move Hunter and guard Bogdan Bogdanović at the deadline for expiring deals, but that would leave them with only six players with guaranteed… Read more »
The Cavaliers and Hawks continue to discuss a potential trade that would send forward De’Andre Hunter to Cleveland, as Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line tweet. Reporting earlier this week indicated that the two teams were talking about Hunter and Caris LeVert, with a subsequent report referring to the Cavs as the frontrunner to land Hunter. According to Fischer and Stein, one complication in the talks is that both Cleveland and Atlanta would like to end up below the luxury tax line. The Hawks are currently below that threshold by approximately $1.2MM, while the Cavs are above… Read more »
Sounds like it’s Okoro to Detroit and LeVert to Atlanta. Stay tuned.
JB loves Okoro, with good reason. He’s a dog, makes winning plays, and an elite defender who shot 40+% from three pre-injury is valuable.
Painful if true but that might be the price for a big wing.
PULL THE TRIGGER KA— “ HUNT “ AND GET THE HUNTER 👍
Jerome / CP / Hunter / Wade / a big would really work against the Boston bench units anchored by a Jay.
(CP and Hunter are really strong and fast – I especially think CP on Pritchard is a good idea)
Miami is now just $3.3 million over the tax line. Keep an eye on Kevin Love and Haywood Highsmith, two players they could potentially trade to move themselves below the line.
Per Hollinger
Ty is apparently close to Hunter, having played at the University of Virginia together.
Pretty sure they won a ring together.
Yep
that’s a plus!
Man I feel for Caris. Obviously. Feeling the pressure last night
This would mean LeVert or Strus plus Niang or wade
Think probably it’s LeVert and Niang and either a billion seconds and Merrill or Tyson or the 2031 pick.
which is probably too much
Yeah. You can only play five guys though.
Jerome-Hunter-Wade-CPJ-Tyson is a good bench.
five at a time, need nine or ten for the game. factor in a couple injuries, …
I would think Hunter would slide in as a starter, at some point.
I might start Wade: might not close with him but I like having him to deploy against big wings from the start.
that rumor has been going around forever, and it is going to be hard to make it work.
MY PERSONAL FEELING IS ALL IN ON GETTING HUNTER!!
If Caris wasn’t an expiring id be more hesitant.
I’m just tired of the wing brigade after every game for the last year and a half. Hunter is the best available solution I think. Pull the trigger and live with the scouting dept / second rounders and further development for improvement as needed.
Still have dice rolls on Emoni and Thor in some play.
my guess is the much weaker bench will be a huge problem. what are the chances Emoni and Thor can contribute right now?
check the standings.
Jerome is amazing. Tyson can give you something. CPJ is a good third PG with room to run. Wade and Okoro and Hunter would be there too
Maybe why Caris is on edge.
I SUPPORT JA’s ACTIONS OR ANY CAVS FOR “ DRAWING A LINE IN THE SAND “ AND STANDING UP / SENDING A MESSAGE!!!!!💪💪💪💪💪👍👍👍👍
More of a G League player: The Wizards have requested waivers on forward Sidy Cissoko, the team announced today (via Twitter).
I went back and watched the Jarrett ejection play in slow motion. Jarrett gets the in-bounds then drops it to DG and sets a screen. Thompson tries to fight through the screen on the sideline and perhaps intentionally slugs Jarrett as he goes by. You can see his head snap back and he staggers backwards. He gets up and immediately charges Thompson, pulling up at the last second to deliver the big blow that everyone sees. Based on the full play (not just the last bit that got shown over and over) I can see why they’d call it a… Read more »
The Pistons were doing that all game too. Slapping, throwing shoulders, and getting away with it. These refs should be sent to the Z League.
WOW JUST WATCHED REPLAY—- THE OFFICIATING OR LACK OF WAS A DISGRACE TO THE NBA 😡😡————— THE LAKERS COMING UP “ SMELLING LIKE ROSES AFTER BEING IN A SHIT BUCKET “ IS ALSO A DISGRACE—— EVERY YEAR THEY FRIGGIN “ PULL A RABBIT OUT OF THE HAT “😡😡
Every decade it appears
Lakers-Warriors tonight on TNT. Too bad none of the new players will be available.
Lakers picking up Williams from Charlotte. Fantastic get and fit.
Luka-Reaves-Bron-DFS-Williams is a pretty tough lineup.
It sounds like they gave up more assets for Williams than they did for Luka. Mavs are dumb!
Both the Lakers and Mavs are legit threats to OKC: that’s all I want, more tough matchups for the only West team I think would be favored against us.
The Hornets will need to trade or waive a player from their 15-man roster in order to open up a spot for the extra incoming player.
The Pelicans will trade Brandon Ingram to the Raptors for Bruce Brown, Kelly Olynyk, a first-round pick and a second-rounder, according to Shams Charania of ESPN (Twitter link).
I cannot fathom why a team would trade anything of value for Brandon Ingram. He has been a decent scorer on bad teams his whole career. He is like if Tracy mcgrady was constantly injured and not quite as good. I’m so happy it was Toronto and not Cleveland
This is what Hollinger had to say: One small win for Toronto on this Brandon Ingram trade was including Kelly Olynyk rather than the expiring contract of Chris Boucher. Due $13.4 million in 2025-26 as a result of a disastrous extension decision late last season, the Raptors also will have more wiggle room to re-sign Ingram and make other upgrades without Olynyk’s deal on the books. They also retain the ability to trade Boucher’s expiring deal someplace else for more draft equity. One more wrinkle: The inclusion of Olynyk rather than Boucher seemingly makes it possible for the Raptors to… Read more »
Maybe instead of trading Caris they could rework his contract and extend him, if that’s even possible.
DG = DAMN GOOD 👍🏀💪
I’m glad I’m not a Bulls fan!
The Bulls and point guard Lonzo Ball have agreed to terms on a two-year, $20MM contract extension, according to Shams Charania of ESPN (Twitter link). K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network first reported (via Twitter) that the two sides were finalizing a new deal.
Kenny relates that Jarrett said he was retaliating for getting slapped in the face. Not best with 2 minutes left, though.
I loved it. Shed the soft rep. You gonna try to punk us you’re gonna feel it twice as hard. It also had no business being a flagrant 2
I gotta say the officiating ( not only in this game, but in general ) completely sucks.Inconsistent, out of control ,and flat out wrong too much of the time.
One of the worst officiated games of the season.
I noticed Caris wasn’t playing at the end. Wonder if he got pulled for a trade?
Doubt it. He was just terrible.
He’s been rough lately.
Combo of trade nerves and having no feel after coming back from injury.
Classic JB game
Ok,that one makes up for missing the foul shots that other time.
Yeah
Wish I had the Cleveland call..I was on the Pistons broadcast. But I wasn’t able with an overtime.. bad closing of the game.
Jarrett owes Garland dinner.
Yowza! Way to bail us out, DG!
Fuck u Detroit!
Jfc. Ok. I’ll take it.
DG!!!!!!!!
Impossible !!!
The refs are gifting this game to Detroit
Niang ugh
You play the foul game here?
Get niang as far away from this play as possible please
Gotta keep Niang off the floor for this. LeVert or CPJ
Niang what are u doing.
WTF?
Fucking dumb.
The one thing you can’t do. Fucking idiot.
Garland make your FTs
Ugh why is Niang in and again that was a foul against him
JB for prison
