Live Thread: Cavs @ Wizards

The Cavs are in the nation’s capitol as they take on the shamelessly tanking Washington Wizards for a perfunctory Eastern Conference matchup. This is a classic trap game for the Cavs, but as it is known, this year’s Cavs have that killer instinct you’d hope teams have.
The bigger issue is the chemistry shakeup with De’Andre Hunter coming into the fold with Caris LeVert and Georges Niang heading out to ATL. It’s very hard to criticize the move by POBO Koby Altman. They got a better player than Niang, perhaps also a better than LeVert too and got under the tax for the season. It delays the cap penalties for another season, which is vitally important for long-term franchise success.
This move isn’t without risk. Hunter has an extensive injury history. Niang was clearly a veteran leader of the team that was able to make up for a lack of skill and talent with savvy and grit. Caris LeVert was perhaps the most versatile player on the team outside of Donovan Mitchell or Evan Mobley. He filled so many roles and filled them in competently and with a team-first attitude. There’s no doubt in my mind we will see their faces associated with the franchise again… and that should be a welcomed thing.

Apparently the best international player with an out is Will Magnay. Didn’t exactly light it on fire in Olympics though.
But looks like exactly the kind of player the Cavs need: someone who can play both big spots, d, hit a wide open triple, etc

That’s a rough one after an insanely good debut too. Would be painful if they got OKC in the first round
The current situation is making me start to like AD a bit — deals with adversity without whining.
I’ve always loved AD – he’s spectacular in terms of both production and skill on the floor on both ends, does whatever he’s asked by and large as his teams vision changes (like when LA switched between big and small or when NO added Boogie).
The Luka trade has some overall value issues on total return but AD is the best actual player to move in a trade since KD (and AD right now might be better than PHX KD).

What’s the deadline for playoff eligible buy out guys? (arguably we don’t even need the third big for the playoffs, just to eat minutes or games if we decide to rest Mobley / Allen)
you will absolutely need a third big if Allen or Mobley is injuried in the playoffs.
I mean, the “if” makes it not a need definitionally but just trying to think through timelines

Man I looked at his numbers: per36 of 10/8 with two turnovers and shooting 44% from line this year. I’m not seeing a guy who’s skilled enough to play in the association.

He made the rising stars team of the 2021/22 Euro League and the All young player team of the Spanish league. That was before we drafted him in 2022. #39, same year as elder Mobley and Travers.
We drafted him. If he comes over, he’s ours. He isn’t a starter and is getting 9.4 mpg.
Yeah, but Europeans play deep rotations so low minutes aren’t always an indication of low quality.
