The Cavs are in the national spotlight yet again as they take on Eastern Conference rival Orlando Magic in primetime at Disneyworld. For the Cavs, they’re looking to continue to build their better rebounding habits, which just won them the game against the 2nd best rebounding team in the NBA against the Memphis Grizzlies. They’re facing yet again another physical, long, athletic team that is a superior rebounding team to the good guys. Can the Cavs rise to yet another challenge? Stay tuned…

11 a year with a player option (2+1) ASAP isn’t bad. Record shows we pay guys as much as we can as long as we can when we can – see the Allen extension – but fit should matter.

Does this guy know what he is talking about?
No. What the Cavs are confortable with is irrelevant. They don’t have Full Bird rights on him. Thus, Cap/Apron/Tax/CBA rules limit how much they can offer.
Next year, the extensions for Mobley ($38.6 mil) and Mitchell ($46.4 mil) kick in. Those are both big jumps from this year. As a result, the Cava will be WELL over the tax apron next year.
The first apron is estimated to be just shy of $196 mil. 2nd apron is $207.8 mil.
With only 10 guys signed (DG, Spida, Mobley, Allen, Strus, Hunter, Okoro, Wade, Tyson, CPJ) we are at $207. We are 2nd apron team next year absent some cost cutting.
2nd apron teams cannot even use the full midlevel. ANY taxpaying team (1st apron) is limited to $5.8 mil. 2nd apron trams cannot even use the MLE at all. If they do they are hard capped at the 2nd apron.
Now, if we had full Bird rights, we could offer anything despite those rules. Like with say, Merrill. Since he’s been here 3 years.
The bi-annual exception hard caps a team at the first apron. Cannot use that.
Early Bird lets us use either 175% raise to the previous year’s salary (under $5 mil for Jerome) OR $105% of the average nba salary. According to Basketball reference the avg salary for 2025 is $10.3 mil. So $11 mil is the BEST we can do.

It seems like Detroit is one team that could outbid the Cavs for Ty, (w/ $25 M a year) but I’m not sure he wants to play for JB again. That being said, it’s difficult to pass up on guaranteed money. If the Cavs sign him to a one year deal, would they have his bird rights after that year?
There are more rules against doing just that, btw. If we go Early Bird, it HAS to be at least 2 years. No skirting the rules.

yup, some guys do a 1+1 to get full bird rights with a expectation the team will deliver because it was probably promised in negiotiations.

JB is excellent for instilling proper culture and accountability. With decent talent, that should get you 40-45 wins. Cunninghsm is better than decent.

NBA standings have cavs as clinching playoffs? Hadn’t heard that anywhere but if true, that’s ridiculous
If the Cavs lose out, they will be 48 – 34, .5854, which would put them in fourth place right now. the only way they would not make the PO’s would be if the current 4 – 8 teams ALL win enough get to 48 wins, and get lucky with tie breakers.
the current #8 team, the Hawks, are 27 – 31 and thus would have to go 21 – 3 to tie the Cavs. But the Hawks play some of the current 4,5,6,7 teams, and they can’t all win out, so the Cavs are in.

I think on Ty there’s more at play this offseason. Given his age, he’ll be advised that this should be the biggest contract he’ll ever get. So, is there someone out there who sees him as their solution at point guard? San Antonio jumps out, but, is there anyone with space who wouldn’t want him? To max out, he needs to start and he can’t here. Just playing his way out of town in the best way possible, I think
Yup, this is his chance to score, unfortunately for him a lot teams are going into the offseason with very little cap space.
Luckily for the Cavs, unluckily for Ty, the Cavs have a great chance of keeping him simply because there’s very few alternatives that would both pay more and get him on a good situation.
I also think acquiring Hunter, his best friend, will make it appealing to Ty to stay. Also, I highly encourage Cavs Dan to cut him an under the table deal. GIT R DUN KOBY!
I hope they will figure out a way, which will likely involve moving some other players. but it is not just paying the tax, you just can’t do it.

Impressive considering that every opponent would love to beat the Cavs on any given night, although at this point many may just be hoping to avoid an embarrassing beatdown. I hope the Cavs keep things loose and don’t get too caught up in chasing a regular season record.
