Had a silly thought, but wanted to see if this had any validity: if someone signed Ty to a contract, would the sign and trade work where the cavs could trade the necessary pieces to make the new contract work? This presupposes that he wants to sign for higher than what cavs could offer and they would want to offload a couple of pieces plus kicker. I know there’s a restriction on trading a recently signed player, but don’t understand how sign and trade worked
I think they’d have to match player for player because they will be over the second apron. So can’t combine salaries.
I also can’t figure out a way to keep Ty, but I have faith that the FO can figure something out.

Man. Javonte Greene is not a “street free agent.” Robert Covington would be a ” street free agent.” Green asked for a buyout from New Orleans and got it for this express purpose. The dude was solid for them and has been legit good in years past. Okoro is going to be a luxury the Cavs might not be able to afford coming up, and finding lower cost replacements for him is going to something they need to think about. He’s a buyout guy, which I stated maybe two minutes after the post in an edit. Not a ton of additional upside but a good pickup for a few months or perhaps longer at the vet min if he is willing. Doesn’t mean Okoro is more or less likely to be a cap casualty. Okoro is fine for next year and the year following, and there is always a need for lower cost replacements but that won’t be much of an issue until 26-27, at which point Green will likely have moved on, and both Tyson and our ‘26 FRP… Read more »
