Live Thread: Cavs Vs 76ers

Tonight is a crucial game for the Cavaliers and this blog. The Cavs are trying to continue their revenge tour by avenging their 95-92 loss to the 76ers on January 5th. Last meeting the Cavs blew a 17 point lead with both Kyrie Irving and LeBron James not playing. Nonetheless, that isn’t an excuse for the Cavs poor execution. Especially since Kevin Love put up 28 points and had 19 rebounds that night. This game will be the fully loaded edition, as all three Cleveland stars will be dominating along with recently acquired game changers Timofey Mozgov, Iman Shumpert, and J.R. Smith. All three new guys are arguably better than anyone the Sixers will put on the floor tonight. It’s mind blowing to think how much the roster has changed in just one month.
The second and arguably more interesting story line of the night deals with two writers. Both Cavs: The Blog bloggers Nate and Cory will be in attendance. If the Cavs lose, Nate and Cory may never be allowed to go to a game together for the rest of their lives. The bad luck police would have to patrol all Cavs home games to make sure that they never happened to enter the Q in tandem, even if by accident. If the Cavs pull out the win, well, fans of the blog should be ready to pony up cash or some tickets because there’s important home games the Cavs must win.
Cavs should close this game out quickly and have their bench emptied by the forth. Still, the Cavs will win it large to make a statement with win number 11, 110-92.

I just noticed that three of the teams ahead of the Cavs in the EC played tonight, and they all lost. Now, 0.5 games out of forth, 1.5 out of third, and 3.5 out of second. Quite a ways out of first. Switching gears, here is a question: I think the Cavs get a roster spot exemption because Andy is out for the year (is this right?). So they have had TWO open roster spots for a while. That’s true. There are two open spots with the Andy exemption. I think the reason why is that they haven’t been going all that deep. Despite the win streak, we still haven’t seen a whole lot of Harris, Jones or Haywood. There’s been a bit more Mike Miller in the last few games, and Shump is slowly getting over his minutes restriction. Just not sure they’d have a whole lot of minutes for any 10-day guys right now. Not true. Only a cap exception. Need at least three players hurt before a roster exemption, and they’re usually temporary.
Roster exemptions are pretty rare actually. Teams only dress 13 for games so there’s two guys waiting before any injuries.

Very true. It’s just really hard to do what the Hawks just did. And I don’t think we’ve played particularly well lately. We’ve just been matched with inferior competition.
I wouldn’t call the Clippers, Thunder, Blazers and Bulls “inferior competition” Just sayin…

They’re defense is their biggest liability weirdly enough. Offense is stellar, but even with Jordan… they struggle on D.

I’d agree, they were better last year… their defensive efficency is only ranked 15th… offensive efficency ranked 1st.
Which is to say that their stellar offense I think covers for their average defense.
This is a really weird observation, and maybe it doesn’t hold true in a greater sense, but it seems to me that every Delly-hater I’ve met has been a west-sider. Really odd coincidence?

For the type of contract Delly is on, the value is definitely there. I just wish he was a few inches taller.

Despite not taking any shots in the second half, he wasn’t playing without confidence like he had been a few games ago. Some of the Kyrie/Delly 3s were a result of his screens which won’t be found any where in the stat sheet. I think for the first time in his career he is getting energized by playing defense.
