Live Thread: Cavs @ Pistons
2015-11-17Okay… so it’s not Saturday night. Still, every time I see a trip to Detroit on the Cavs’ schedule, this song plays uncontrollably in my brain. It “pulls me through, comes on strong, and tells me what I gotta do,” so to speak. Sure it’s almost 40 years old, but I defy you to listen to this song and not “lose your mind,” or at least get pumped up for any big event… like tonight when the Cavs end their three game roady (and hopefully start a new win streak) with a showdown against the Pistons in “Detroit Rock City.”
Both teams are feeling a little raw, coming off of tough losses. The Pistons and their burgeoning star, Andre Drummond, got taken to task by their coach, the Master of Panic himself, Stan Van Gundy for their poor showing against the lowly Lakers on Sunday. The 95-87 loss was their fourth straight on a six game road trip, dropping Detroit back down to .500 on the season after a promising 5-1 start. Despite putting up astronomically historic numbers (18.5 ppg and 19.0 rpg) and his tremendous length, Andre the giant is still lacking in other areas (including just 1.4 blocks per game) according to SVG…
“Andre does a lot of great things but he is not protecting the rim at all,” said Van Gundy.
Stan was also critical of his PG, Reggie Jackson, after a nine point, five turnover performance against the Lakers. Jackson has still been the leading scorer for the Pistons (20.4 ppg), and put up a total of 40 points and 17 assists in two games against the Cavs last season after being traded to Detroit.
The Cavs also got an early season ripping from their royal leader for their collective poor effort and attitude in only their second defeat of the season against the Bucks on Saturday. LeBron made it pretty clear how he felt about the team despite their lofty 8-2 record…
“We’re not a great team right now,” James said. “I think we’re a good team. I think we expect we’re a great team, and we’re not. We have to get better in every facet of the game, and that’s every single facet of the game. We give a half-ass effort sometimes and expect that we can just make a run at the end. We’re not good enough to do that right now.”
Much of what ailed the Cavs were focus related mistakes, from careless passes, to failure to block out on rebounds, to a continued poor performance from the charity stripe… all things that will be achilles heels if they don’t clean them up against another long and physical team in the Pistons. LeBron expanded on his comments this morning a bit by tying them into the style of leadership he’s employing this year, and the high expectations he has for himself and his team…
“I’m the leader of this team, whatever it takes,” James said. “So if it’s laying into them, I’ll do that. Obviously, whatever this team needs, I’m going to do. I’m going to hold everyone accountable including myself. I expect nothing less than greatness out of all of us, and if we’re not able to do that, then I feel like I’ve failed.”
The Cavs will undoubtedly look to rectify their sloppiness and avoid giving yet another up-and-coming young team in the suddenly strong Central Division any sort of confidence for the future. The Pistons will be looking to defend their turf and take their best shot at the reigning EC Champs.
Probable starting lineups for the Cavs: Mo Williams, J.R. Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Timofey Mozgov; and for the Pistons: Reggie Jackson, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Marcus Morris, Ersan Ilyasova and Andre Drummond.
Tip off is 7:30 pm (EST). Check out the game on Fox Sports Ohio or on WTAM 1100.
So, …GET UP! ….GET DOWN! …and GO CAVS!
Drummond is killing us right now
That it… Love can punish Ilyasova inside all day…
We needed that shot from KLOVE, phew
We need a camera on Blatt every time the Cavs brick a free throw or turn the ball over.
The Love doctor is operating in the post.
If that happens once every five possessions we blew every team out
Reggie is getting to the lane tooo easy, dont like it at all
Even Mo can’t hit his throws… whole team is infected…
This FT shooting is ridiculous. It’s becoming contagious.
Free throws are their achilles heel…
Illyasova got trucked.
He shouldn’t play in traffic.
Okay, Cavs JR is still shooting hot! Do not forget him
Lebron’s freight train move.
Piston’s starters are +39, bench -44……
That was some bad Le-ISO on that last Cavs possession too… not a high percentage shot…
I can’t wait until we get our starting backcourt back.
A couple of good looks on 3s that didn’t go down, and a couple of bad looks that didn’t go down. Cavs need to tighten down on D the rest of the way.
JR effed that coverage up…
Ran from the double team back to the middle instead of running out on Ilyasova…
Love looks a little bit like a weenie right now.
Delly has to recognize Love was wide open at his sweet spot. Ugh dumb play after dumb play.
I was saying the same thing, he shoulda passed it then.
Why is Ilysova constantly left wide open?
werent we up like 10 just now , sigh , CAVS smh
Delly struggling from behind the arc tonight.
Unless there’s a run by Cavs here… feeling like another long night for the King…
Man… Drummond is just a rebounding machine…
Mozzy back in there…
Nice close out by Love on Toliver.
RJ with a pass to nowhere on that possession… got to take that to the rack against Baynes… not like Drummond is out there right now…
Delly almost always makes the smart foul on those potential breakaways.
Put your arms up Love
Delly getting separation on the drive there for an easy finish.
Blatt looks like Steve carrels character in Foxcatcher.
Love with 2 key scores in the 4th and Tristan getting every board now in the 4th
The Pistons are leading the Cavs in diving out of bounds plays to save a ball 3-0 in this game…
Our Love is alive!
Come on dude! Dim-Wit blew a tire.
Tristan has had some nice rebounds in this game
Terrific move by KLove! More please!
Love old school in the post. Yeah!
37-28 rebounding advantage for Detroit and a 9-0 advantage in second chance points. sigh
Good quarter but definitely could’ve been better.
Rest Lebron. KEVIN LOVE BE AGGRESSIVE!!!. Ride JR and Mo. Play great defense and make your freebies
Good to see the assists are back up though…
Did we even score in that last mins? Ugly series of plays. The bench line-ups not producing. Blatt has to try something else! 8 pts only!
Terrible finish to the quarter. Just terrible.
Why dont we ever finish a quarter strong ? just annoys me
2 shitty quarter closeouts, doing our best to keep the crowd in the house.
Bad end of the quarter by Mo….but nice D by Delly on last shot.
Once again… Cavs fail to close out a quarter well… smh
Cavs once again screwing themselves closing the quarter.
That was about a 90% clean block by JFJ on Drummond.
RJ’s shot has been off tonight…
If Drummond can make FTs, we have no excuses.
INJURIES MAY KEEP ” THE BROW ” FROM A HALL OF FAME CAREER——-GETTING BEAT ON THE BDS AGAIN ( UNDERSTAND THIS IS 1 OF THE PISTONS STRENGHT ) BUT STILL ” IF WE ARE TO BE GREAT / NEED TO WIN THIS BATTLE EVERY GAME—T.T. HAVING ( SO FAR ) ANOTHER HO – HUM GAME
My goodness free throws!!!
This free throw shooting is unbelievable. Its an epidemic!
Cavs have 13 missed 3s, that’s unacceptable.
The missed Freebies worry me more.
Banana in the old tailpipe….
Bump that lead. Precious time for Bron to rest here.
James Jones a master at drawing that foul….lol
Mo’s instinct is always to go under the screen… which seems like a bad plan…
Reggie Jackson has been quite a bit better for them than I expected. Still a bad contract, but he’s playing well.
I really like him, with the big exception being his behavior leaving OKC… could’ve handled that better.
The Brow just went out with shoulder injury against the Nuggets…
Did it look serious?
He is not going to return this game…
Hope it’s just precautionary. Boy, they have had both bad luck this season, and they have also been bad.
Oh man can the Pelicans season get any worse at this point? Looks like they will be getting a lottery pick.
Reggie swinging an elbow out there…
We’ve got 11 3 pointers made and we are only in the third (11-24). That’s what is giving us this lead
HAVE TO ADMIT ” SURFING ” WATCHING DUKE / KY GAME —KANSAS / MICH STATE TO FOLLOW
Same here, NOMAD! My Blue Devils looking overmatched.
THE SHOT DR. NOMAD IS AVAILABLE FOR FRE THROW SHOOTING IMPROVEMENT ( OUR HIGH SCHOOL TEAM LAST YEAR SHOT 77 % )
Man I really dislike the Morris twins.
BIG three from Mo!
Who is this “Maurice Williams” the Pistons announcer keep referring to?
King with a JR level mistake there….
These officials are starting to piss me off.
These free throws need improving ASAP, we cant be an elite team without being consistent on the line
Agree. Cavs should have a double digit lead at this point.
