Live Thread: Cavs vs. Wizards
2015-12-01I realize that not everyone who reads this blog is a fan of all Cleveland sports. In fact, I know many of you live in far reaching places around the country and even the globe, and have rooting interests elsewhere for other sports. But for those of you who are still recovering from last night’s latest Browns debacle… take heart and embrace the above banner. Though it looks like it might be a while longer to wait for a Superbowl (or at this point even a playoff) contender, there’s nothing like seeing the King and all of his men in action to clear one’s palate and memory banks. And, fortunately, we don’t even have to wait a full 24 hours, since the Cavs play host to the Washington Wizards tonight at the Q.
The Wiz (6-8) have fallen on hard times lately, and come to town on a four game losing streak, including a tough 84-82 loss on Saturday to the Raptors on a Cory Joseph buzzer beating triple. But, at least it was an improvement over their previous three games where they lost by an average margin of 21.3 points. It doesn’t get easier for Washington tonight, as they take on a Cavs team that’s beaten them 12 of the last 16 in Cleveland, and is 29-1 at the Q since mid-January.
The Cavs are coming off of a buzzer beating thriller of their own on Saturday against Brooklyn when LeBron hit a spectacular running jump-hook with two seconds to play to keep them a perfect 9-0 at home. The wine & gold have won five of their last six, and look push their home winning streak to double digits against the Wiz.
Cavs probable starting lineup: Mo Williams, J.R. Smith, LeBron James, Kevin Love and Timofey Mozgov. Wizards probable starting lineup: John Wall, Bradley Beal, Jared Dudley, Otto Porter Jr. and Marcin Gortat.
In other Cavs’ news, David Blatt was named the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for October/November, after leading the Cavaliers to a 13-4 record. This is the second time Blatt has earned Coach of the Month accolades (March 2015) as he becomes the fourth coach in Cavaliers history to win the award more than once, joining Lenny Wilkens (three times), Mike Fratello (two times) and Mike Brown (five times). Blatt is the first coach in Cavaliers history to win the award within the first month of a season.
Even with the recent troubles of the Wizards, expect this to be a fairly competitive game, as the Wiz are yet another young team gunning for the reigning EC Champs. The Cavs should ultimately pull this one out though somewhere in the neighborhood of 103-95.
GO CAVS!
Too bad TT didn’t bury that.
Refs missed a blatant double dribble on Wall.
Delly is 3 for 3 from deep.
Delly doesn’t quit…
JR got a call!
So I guess that know opposing coaches will try to push the pace more against the Cavs and more importantly attack the Cavs guards all night.
And play super small lineups…
And ignore Thompson on offense.
HAHA… how does the whole league not know this? It’s not like GSW kept this secret in last year’s finals.
I think something is wrong with Moz. He just doesn’t seem right.
Windhorst has mentioned numerous times that his knee is still bothering him.
He might be the one who needs the two-week break in Miami this year.
Haven’t watch the game, what’s up with 19 TO? 9 of them are from Lebron.
This game was harder to watch than any last season, including the finals losses. But if they lost this way with Ky and Shump playing, I would feel a whole lot worse.
Rematch Jan. 6 in Washington.
Sixers might beat the Lakers. It’d be hilarious if this win costs them the Lakers draft pick.
Andy should be playing instead of Jones. Some of this game is on Blatt.
My thing is thing, I dont mind when we miss our shots, it happens but our defense should be our calling card and it basically wasnt there tonight. Ugly game, felt like I wasted my time watching but I still have the tab open watching. Sigh, the life of a die hard fan!
Time to take the starters out…
Game over……..
I can’t watch this garbage any more.
What a joke. Wall having the game of his life.
18 turnovers for Cavs. Seems like 30.
I know in the future John Wall won’t shoot this well and Kevin Love will play better. Enjoy the 10th seed Washington.
A few timely threes would change this dramatically…
Philly is hitting more 3’s than us this game, 11 for them, 7 for us. It’s that kinda night. They might get their first win too.
Blau should take lbj out. 9 turnovers!
It would be a great time to start hitting some 3’s , lets just say a 9-0 to make things interesting
This game is giving me a headache…
Gortot should get T’d up for his constant whining.
Its like they cant miss man, Wall is 13-21 for 30 points.
Has to be his best game of the year.
and he makes another 3, 3-5 from 3. I really got a confused face on right now. Ridiculous!!
Jesus h moving screen.
JFJ in to knock Wall on his ass, I hope.
If I’m LBJ, i make the charge count next time Wall does that.
Put your forearm in his throat and fall.
Makeup call.
Flop.
That’s actually ballgame, I think. If we came out with some stops…but a beal layup to start and then a wall three – defense isn’t up to par tonight.
Yeah we can score heavily from here, doesn’t matter. Gotta get stops.
Delly is defending like hell. And since when Wall hitting 3’s ?
You know it’s not your night when Wall is burying threes
And when you win a tip but the ball goes straight out of bounds.
The deep passing game hasn’t been working tonight. Three or four turnovers from it.
Jesus H. Can’t buy a bucket 3 feet from the hoop.
bad pass by LBJ.
That long pass works better going to LeBron from KLove.
Beal is yapping at our bench.
That’s classic. He just let us know this is his super bowl and is going to get bounced in the first round of the playoffs.
We should tell J.R. that there’s only one minute left and we’re down 12. He’s good for at least 2 threes in that situation.
Not even a screen on that play? The only way the Cavs can pull this one is that the Cavs get into a huge rally right away and the Wizards choke.
okay we have a fighting chance, all depends on how we start the 4th quarter. We need to get it down to 5
J.R. and Love combined 4 of 19 with 2 of 11 from three.
They cut it from 22 to 13 at the quarter break. Not dead yet.
Dammit I’m gonna ride with this no matter what. LETS GO CAVS!!!! There’s still a quarter left!!
Would you trade Mo for Austin Rivers straight up?
I wouldn’t care if we did or didn’t.
I probably wouldn’t because Rivers is a dumpster fire at point, and that’s where the Cavs need the depth.
He just needs to come off the bench where he’s not guarding main line offensive players.
Your poo for my poo?
No. What does he do better than Mo? Defense? A little.. But nah,
Of course not. Mo is way better than Rivers, Hell, even you are better than Rivers
We defend really well can they get lucky rolls and make bank shots they haven’t even TRiED their whole career. Delly will get his revenge!
Beal is a tool!!!!!!!!!!
That would have been pretty big if JR had hit that.
And here’s Ninja. Just D, baby. Don’t worry about anything else.
Go to the granny shot, TT. That way you can shoot with both hands.
Delly purring the “I wanna be a starter” stamp all over this game.
He really should be right now, but it doesn’t matter. He still plays most of the clutch minutes.
Delly went into the phone booth and came out as Super Wombat.
toooo funnyyy for real
Delly 4 MVPPP , come on defend Cavs
Even when the Wizards miss it goes in.
Okay, let’s see a 15-0 run.
Basically Delly is getting us back in this game
Wtf?!?! That is a ridiculous call. When JR is calming you down you have gone OFF btw
That call was ****.
That was a block, good call.
No call at best
I could agree with no call, but was in no way a charge. Andy just slid under him while he was driving.
It was a no-call for a couple seconds. Very late whistle.
Shoulder in the chest.
Wow, making a couple of shots now.
Delly with the try off the dribble going left.
This is where I miss Kyrie. He won’t lock down anyone as we all know, but he has that edge, that fire that he won’t lay egg like this..
Let’s see if the bench can give them a lift here. Wanna see fire.
I believe they do fire at the introductions. So you probably missed it already.
Kaun actually means ‘fire’ in Russian.
I just want to see intensity. Lets see if they respond during this game…or after the recriminations start & heads go on the chopping block.
Besides Lebron and Mo, Cavs are shooting 10-38 at 26%. Mo and Lebron are 11-23 for 47%
Several missed layups mixed in, too. Great stuff.
And shooting % against Mo is somewhere around 100%.
Unfortunately Mo couldn’t keep wall from scoring on a 20 foot hoop.
Klove with as bad a game as we’ve seen from him.
Moz is just not well or not in shape or something. He’s costing himself money if this keeps up.
This is horrible. There is a lid on that rim.
Why am I watching this game when the 76ers – Lakers tilt is in progress??
Andy. One of the few Cavs with pride.
Well, this is one way to get LBJ’s minutes reduced. Get kicked in the teeth for three quarters and he may as well sit out the fourth.
